My hands hurt a lot while catching or even fielding the ball. Is there any protection that I can wear during the game, perhaps some kind of gloves? Anyone wear something?

not really, get used to catching it, just throw a ball up and down and your hands will harden naturally despite the stinging at the start! it will also improve your catching...

What about finger protection. I see some international players putting tapes over there fingers. Is that done for some sort of protection?

Under the governing rules you can't wear protective equipment for fielding like gloves. It sounds to me though like perhaps you aren't using the correct catching technique. Your either using the under 12 year old 'alligator' technique, or your not giving with the ball enough. Like monty says, practise catching to get your hands used to it, as well as get someone to observe if you are using the correct technique.

Having said that though, if you do have really sore hands, try and give them a break for a couple of days, because it does only get worse if the hands dont get a proper chance to recover.
