Well I've noticed a few football enthusiasts from the previous threads. Thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a space to discuss the Football seasons (EPL, La Liga, Serie A... etc. ) .

By the way.. I'm a Gunner Fan (Not sure the right time to be revealing it) have been following them for close to a decade now(Wow been that long). Was fascinated by the football played by Henry, Berkhamp, Pires, Viera, Ljungberg  the Wenger way.

Oh yes!! I'm a very tolerant fan. But despite all the beautiful football can't deny the fact that The trophy cabinet still looks bare.. at least for the last five years..

Barca all the way!!! Anyone saw the Champions LEague semi final last night? I wish there is some Madrid fan here. That Messi goal was simply fantastic - they say, there is God in the heavens and Messi on earth!!!

In the EPL, I do support Liverpool - but this season has been pretty bad. I miss the team that had Gerrard, Torress, Alonso, Arbeola, Mascherano. I don't think Liverpol stands a good chance next season either.

I enjoy watching Barca, but they let themselves down last night with some of their antics, notably Pedro collapsing holding his face after Arbeloa's shoulder brushed his chest, and of course the cheat Dani Alves, who has made a career out of rolling around on the ground, then miraculously recovering the second he has succeeded in getting an opponent carded.

Yes they were not graceful. And that was expected. But they managed 71 percent possession without Iniesta in the playing eleven and that speaks volume of the caliber.  Who else thinks Messi is the finest footballer on the planet alive?

At one point I thought it might end up as a 7-a-side match last night. How useless was it sending Mourinho off when he was still able to pass notes to his coaching staff?!

My team is Yeovil Town and I support them as I was born there. They are currently in the middle to lower reaches of League 1 (that's our third division in England) and doing alright mainly thanks to a good run either side of Christmas that lifted us out of the relegation zone.

Madrid, Melbourne and Liverpool.... I'm rather a diverse fan.

EDIT:But I don't follow Soccer too much, so I only know the general stuff... I rarely watch matches.

Is football more popular than cricket in Australia? The only player I can recall from Australia currently is Cahill.

Zuhair, the Aussies had a few players in the premiership not too long ago.  I can't remember if Viduka is one of them.

Anyways, my favourite team, none other than the Red Devils!  Somehow or the other, my favourite teams always seem to wear red.

Vote4peace, the Arsenal team you liked was really good.  Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Viera etc used to be quite competitive.  Chelsea under Jose Mourinho was superb too.  I use to love watching Liverpool, if there was anyteam that was seem to be out of a game and can comeback and win it, it was them.  That 3-1 against Olympiakos when they ended winning the champions league was a superb year for them.  That final was something else, being 3 down and them tieing then winning on penalty kicks - superb!

My favourite player is none other than Christiano Ronaldo - his footworks is lightening quick!  Messi is the best around at the moment but the can't hold Ronaldo on speed. Wink

I think both Messi and C Ronaldo the best around at the moment. But I'm somehow always inclined to the players with the finesse touches the Zidanes, the Bergkamps, Pires of yesteryears and the Xavi, Iniestas, Fabregas of the present. Just a joy to watch.

And yes I enjoy watching Barca play too.

Zidane was full of class mate - loved watching him play.  Beckham was quite good but Real Madrid made a mess of him - imagine playing one of the best right wingers in defensive midfield, a guy who had some of the best crosses the game has seen.  That's like using Fidel Edwards to try and contain batsman!

Quite right Zuhair, i'm surprised Ronaldo still has a bit of skills.  Still think he was much better with Man Utd - they use to use him as the leader, always trying to get the ball to him, he worked his magic that way!

Most prominent Australian players of recent times who have played in Europe would be Harry Kewell, Tim Cahill, Mark Viduka, Mark Schwarzer (goal keeper), Lucas Neill.
Curiously, Christian Viera, the former Italian footballer was raised in Australia.

To answer Zuhair's question, football in Australia (or soccer if you prefer), is the most popular sport at youth level. It outdoes cricket and other football codes when it comes to youth participation, but falls away when it comes to adult competition. It's very popular among the immigrant (and now 2nd and 3rd generation) 'wog' class, which are those people who come from Mediterranean/Slavic/Middle Eastern backgrounds.

To be honest I don't watch anything like the amount of football that I did 20 years ago. Here in SA we get all the Premiership games and those of Spain , Germany and Portugal. Add to that the dire local league and you can see why I got sick of it!  The influx of so many foreigners into the Premiership made me think that the sides had lost their identity. My team , Liverpool historically had many Scottish and Irish players with smatterings of Welsh too , but with a backbone of locally produced players - a team we could call our own.  The change has brought some of the finest footballers in the world to England , but do they really care about the clubs they play for - I have serious doubts.
Cricket always came first , with football a close second. Nowadays I look to rugby after cricket - football comes a poor third.
And that from someone who can remember England winning the World Cup !
Mental disintegration works for me !!

Brummie , so its Aston Villa, Founded 1874 and founders of the football league 1888.

Hate fans who don’t follow their local team.

My older two lads both have season tickets on the ‘Holte End’ and travel to many away fixtures.

Our last three game are Wigan home, Arsenal away and the bin dippers home last game.

Crap season overall, our manager has just left hospital after another heart scare. Can’t see him returning, so it looks like another new manager for next season.

Warwickshire County Cricket, Edgbaston Birmingham England. County Champions 2012

Aston Villa is not a bad team to watch Flipper.  Sure they do lose their fair share of games but they do play exciting football.

Incredible weekend of football really..
Tottenham lose, Man utd lose and Liverpool win

If Man City lost that would of topped it off, but i think were still looking at a 5th place finish!

Currently trending on Twitter, reported from The Independent, Howard Webb is to ref the Man utd vs Chelsea match this weekend.

A game that will probably decide the league.  Thoughts?

Haha. As a Liverpool fan I can see where the disparage is coming from. Though I think he's a fine ref, the finals was an absolute howler.

LOL Yeah, my friend told me a worrying fact, even it is true.  The past 7 games he has ref'd for Man Utd he has given them 4 penalties and they have won every game?

Not sure how true that is though.. can't be fussed to look it up

Just hope it can be a good game, and doesn't come down to a red card or penalty.  And if it does, it's a fair call.

Oh, and i guess i hope Chelsea win Tongue
