Do anyone of you see cricket becoming the game of 100 nations in the next 100 years. As Football is....

My personal view is this that cricket has a lot in it but it needs to be spread carefully. Specially, ICC should play a more significant role. The upcoming teams need to be motivated and I dont think that there are much hurdles in making cricket the game of as many nations. The conditions of different countries may vary, but still, it is possible. May be not 100, but the current number of nations will definitely increase in the future.

This thread should have been in the General Cricket Talk forum.

Anyway, yes I agree , the number of test teams will definently increase in the future but wether it will take over football as the most popular sport on earth remains to be seen.

Football has reached practically EVERY country in the world - cricket most definitely will not.

It has colonial history and whilst it will grow , I don't see it expanding massively.

This is the 2nd thread of using another sport alongside cricket to create a new topic. (baseball was the other).

We don't want to see anymore of the same type , they'll just be deleted.

I hope cricket does become a world sport. It is amazing how many people especially in England have picked up cricket, mainly since the Ashes. A lot of it though relates to the increased amount of TV coverage it receives, which is only good for the sport. Also the idea of Urban Cricket, which I mentioned previously could be another way that youngsters will get involved with the sport.

It's certainly only good for the future of England's cricket team.

No it won't. Cricket is older than pro football, therefore, it should have spread across the globe faster or at least the same rate as football. Basically, football is an easier game to play, with the object of kicking a ball between two posts. When English sailors played these two games where ever they made port, football being the easier game was prefered to cricket by the locals and thus caught on quicker.

I'm glad that cricket is only played by ex english colonies and would hate it becoming a circus like football.

In England most kids never get to play Cricket. It was always considered the sport of the posh kids, played at the fee paying schools, the same case applies to rugby 'The Old school tie' Things have slightly changed in schools over the last year, but don't get carried away, everything in schools is geared up to play football in the uk and always will.

Warwickshire County Cricket, Edgbaston Birmingham England.

It won't. I've been to a couple of countries and asked them about cricket. They said, 'cricket is so boring! How could you possibly like it'. Football is a better sport.

Poor sod Flips , you haven't got cricket OR football then where you live!

Crownmethod, in Bangladesh football was the number one sport in the 80s, now people are crazy about cricket here  so if cricket can take over football here and also in India, Pakistan, Australia , West Indies and  South Africa then I see no reason why in the future it can become the number one sport.

i don't think cricket will overtake football. football is a global sport and almost all the countries play that sport. cricket is being played since 1900's and still only 16-20 countries r taking part and of that only 12 r in the elite group.
sorry guys i don't have pc in my hostel so i can't use the net very often.

Cricket can not overtake football. Football is played everywhere, its played in every continents. Football has more fans than Cricket does. Cricket is not global sport. Some of the countries like US and some states in South America doesn't even know what Cricket is. My opinion is Cricket will never be greater than Football is.

We don't want cricket to go the way of football anyway.

Keep overpaid, greedy, ungrateful prima donnas away from cricket.

Keep abuse and intimidation of officials away from cricket.

Keep constant cheating out of cricket.

Keep racism and hooliganism away from cricket.

Come on inzamam329, So you think that football is not boring. Just think about it everytime players hit a four or six crowd stands up and whenever a team loses a wicket. And in football spectators sit their for 90 MINUTES and either team scores 1 or 2 goals, thats it. Do you think thats fun? Even though more people like football than cricket.

We didn't used to sit there for 90 minutes.

Football has its mass appeal because of its simplicity - anyone can kick a ball. Some games of football are boring, some games of cricket are. Some games of football have everything, as do games of cricket. It's swings and roundabouts, but the fact is that football has the popularity because of its simplicity.

A very good keeper too I hear...

Anyway cricket can never overtake football  as the world's biggest sport but I love it anyway!

County Sim on extended break until I've got less work and more free time. When I have a specific date, I'll post it in the thread.

Cricket should be played over football all the time!
Ashley Giles took three good wickets, outbowling Shane Warne who matched him in the scorebook, but not on the field

Yes sweetheart , our beloved game was invented by the English in the 17th century!!

After knocking the crap out of the French or the Scots (sorry Clobs!) , cricket was our favourite pastime!!
