Not really , they'll win in quick time bowling first and have a nice rest. The game on Saturday determines who'll finish top of the group. |

Surely middle batting practice is better than netting? Time in the field shouldn't be much difference bowling 1st or 2nd.

Well everyone done know who i supporting on SAturday. I really enjoyed the carnage agianst holland and the best part was when Gibbs blaze 6 sixes in one over.
But the worst part was that i had to wait until midnight to see the starting of the match, i watch a few balls them sleep for a for balls and the cycle continue through the night for me until the 29 overs, after i was awake as a lion when all the carnage took place in the last 11 overs.

Well the skills required would be different if SA batted 1st.
firstly Ireland would have batted more aggressively to keep up with S.A's run rate, so bowling would be, in a sense, easier. Also Ireland would not have tested SA at the death, like they did. So basically, its a better workout for S.A's bowling attack if they bowl first, especially against weak opposition. |

Ireland? Netherlands, or Holland, which ever suits.
I'm predicating Aussie for the one this weekend. Too good in these sorts of scenarios.

I'd have to agree...I'd rather see SA win but the Aussies have that big-game mentality and the Saffers have an unfortunate history of World Cup choking

If history repeats itself, though i wouldn't put it past SA to win. They're a talented side, just can't see it happening.

Why is Ashwell in the south africa team? If they want to win on saturday they are going to have to drop him because he scores too slowly.

Ashwell is experienced and if anything goes wrong...then he, Kallis and Boucher are the 3 players that get them out of trouble.
If everything goes right then Smith, DeVilliers, Gibbs, Boucher, Kemp and Pollock can go all out attack. That's how they beat India and Pakistan recently even though the top order didn't play well |

So who is going to win this weekend? I say the toss has a lot to do with it, as the team batting first will endure a torrid time from the opposition bowlers. My pick is: if SA get stuck in they will be 30-3 and then have to fight their way to a total of 280-ish which Australia will chase down with 2 overs and 4 wickets to spare. If Australia get stuck in, they will amass 320ish which SA will chase down easily. In other words, I have a feeling the toss could decide this game. Watch out for Kallis, Ponting and Boucher. |
|
|
JH Kallis is the only player in history to have 8000 runs, 200 wickets and 100 catches in BOTH forms of the game. Only Sobers (tests) and Jayasuriya (one dayers) have achieved half that feat.

Well the match between Aus and South Africa is going to be very tough. I don't think it would be wise to make any predictions as to who would win this match. Both teams are great and it could go any way. This is definately the hottest game in this group so it should be a thriller.

Australia is going to hammer the SAF so bad, Smith will have to change his name to Brown.
![]() The Aussie machine is coming for yas and it's going to be very messy...We want that 3rd Cup and nothing is going to get in the way. Pa chicken legs and the toe breaking youngster are going to demolish them in the blink of an eye and the Punter will run their legs off chasing the cherry. I've had my crystal ball out, so just call me Mandrake the Crystal ball gazing buffoon. Nothing can stop the Aussie Juggernaut.....Bangladesh are out aren't they! ![]()

Saturday's clash should be filled with classy cricket. Both sides
have qualified and that'll allow them all to relax a little. The match
is a 2 pointer though , so neither side will want to get beaten.
I agree with superbokkie - the toss could prove important and I expect the winner of the toss to bowl first. SA chase better than setting a total and I see them winning if they bat 2nd and losing if they bat first!! Nothing like sitting on the fence fellas!! Let's hope they'll be a decent crowd in for this one - the two best sides are on show afterall. |

Regardless of whichever team wins this match, both SA and Aus are still gonna dominate the Super 8's, and they're very likely to both go through that round undefeated... (fingers crossed)

Big call to say they'll both be undefeated Mojo - you'll get
decent odd at the bookies for that! We could see both sides
through to the semis with a couple of games still to go in the super
8's. They then might rest a few old men and give some one else a go -
remember as long as one of them finishes top of the super 8's , 2nd or
3rd will be good enough for the other to keep the sides apart
until the final.

Yeah, it is quite a big call, but by no means an unrealistic one. It can be done if they put as much effort into it as they did in the group games so far.

Winning's a great habit , but as SA found in the '96 tournament , winning 6 out of 6 didn't even get them to the semis!
I think it'll be very tough for any side to go unbeaten through the tournament - afterall one of the big two is going down on Saturday! |

That's why I mentioned the Super 8's specifically.
Anyway, I sure hope this tournament doesn't mirror WC'96. SA's never looked this good, and it would be a tragedy for them to not at least make the finals.

So today we have the World Cup final - as far as Scotland and Holland are concerned at least. Recent matches between the two have been very competitive and I am anticipating another good game today. You can judge how seriously Scotland are taking it by the decision to fly Craig Wright back out just for this one game. We need our bowlers back on form today and if we get against their dangerous top order I would expect the win.

the win. In the predictions league I went for Holland , just so my
results differed from yours!

Bit cheeky there sledger.. good fun nonetheless.
Aus v SA, I'm going Aussie for this one. I usually have a lengthy explanation, though its hard to justify my selection based on SA's current form. Just got a feeling that Aussie will trample them.

SA is likely to have at least one "off" day in this tournament. Let's hope it's not the Aus match though... Actually, I hope it's not the semis or the final. That's more important.

There's a lot of cricket to play for any side if they're going to
make the final. 11 games will test the 15 man squad of all sides and I
think they might need all those 15. If that's right , then I have
to say the Aussies have greater depth.
Watch each top side go through the tournament with an unchanged XI now !! Edited by Sledger - 22 March 2007 at 12:58pm |
