West Indies beating Bang with ease, Bang ain't no match in a 20/20 match.

August 16th 2009, my team Youth Combine was crowned CHAMPION once more

Don't be so sure BFM....remember in the World cup, India got a good beating from Bang so if Bang could be beat a good team like India (you of all people probably think highly of India because your favourite player is on that team) then Bangladesh could DEFINATELY beat that current windies team! Plus it's 2020 cricket so anything could happen.

I'll bet my last penny that Bangladesh is losing to the Windies.

I'll bet my life on Bang losing to West Indies. India was only playing professional rubbish at it's best during that period.

the atmosphere was like this before ind-ban match too..many ppl did bet their last penny on ind to win...but sorry...cricket is a funny game and 20-20 is more funny i suppose....yes..windies are favourite..but you cant say it obviously they will win...in odi or 20-20 ban can beat any team..and if their opponent is west indies..i will feel more comfortable to bet on ban.

Solid stuff from the Windies - tomorrow's match at Wanderers could well be close.  After SA's impressive win against the Aussies , they'll be feeling pretty confident , but they mustn't take the Windies lightly.

Ticket sales have been good and there's a buzz around the country - this could well be a lot of fun!

I just couldn't believe what I just saw. Daren Powell had figues of 4 overs, 3 wickets fo 4 runs. Unbelieveable stuff for 2020 cricket!!!! Seems like that spell in England did some wonders for him. Well, only time will tell!

3.30 local time and I'm just glad the opening game isn't in Cape Town !  Rain a certainty within the hour , it's very dark here !
But the grand news is that it's glorious in Joburg , hot , sunny and dry and the match is not in danger.

They still haven't got the ocean and all the whales that we have though !

Horrible fielding from the windies.......they gave away too much extras. Great batting from Gayle and Gibbs though.

I have to say that's amazing! too bad he did not come out on the winning side. He could thank Marlon Samuels for dropping a catch...or Chanders for dropping another catch or Rampaul for giving away so much runs! Either one of them will deserve the thanks!

What was the opening ceremony like? I did not see it. Hopefully it was much better than the opening ceremony of the cricket world cup.

that must have been very painful viewing for you Windies fans - as soon as the South Africans started coming at them they just disintegrated and put up one of the worst bowling displays I have seen.

A real shame that Gayle should finish up getting hammered after putting on such a spectacular display.

Yeah....it would have been nice to see Gayle bat. Too bad I missed it. Actually the bowling was not the only bad thing Clobber, they windies' fielding left  A LOT of be desired. They missed a run out chance. I saw Chanderpaul drop a catch. I saw Marlon Samuels drop a catch as well which I believe he should have caught .(He's such a waste of time...but his inclusion in the team reflects the brain dead selectors that the windies have).  The bowlers gave away WAY TOO MUCH extras! If you look at those extras figures you would definately agree that any team giving away that much runs does NOT deserve to win!

SA making that look like a fairly easy run chase, but with 23 wides (and 23 extra balls bowled) Windies gave them a fair bit of help. Not to mention 3 dropped catches.

From the sounds of things Smith will be out for the rest of the tournament with a broken hand, not great for SA.

Well there's no time for me to become nocturnal because it's hard to catch up on sleep during the day with school and everything else! Anyway here in Trinidad I believe that we get the matches at a decent hour. Hopefully there's highlights of the match tonight......

1st ball of the innings he caught one on the back of his right hand, just above the protection, from Powell. Despite this he battled on to make 28 and it seemed to fire up the South Africans.

No Homer , a CAT scan and X-Ray show nothing worse than severe bruising , he'll be okay for Saturday's match.  Bad news for Gibbs though , no better than 50:50 for the weekend - he's pulled a hamstring.

Quite an explosive start to the tournament , hey fellas!  Perfect surface (if you're a batsman) , quick outfield , brilliant lights and the boundaries at their most extreme.
Spectacular hitting by Gayle , 10 6's showed his contempt for the SA attack. The lack of slow bowlers is going to haunt SA methinks (Smith just isn't good enough) , but they'll always be competitive with the amount of batting they carry into each match.
The Windies were woeful in the field - absolutely dire and didn't deserve to win.  Lacklustre fielding , shocking bowling and Gayle apart , they couldn't catch a cold!

Superb crowd in too , we'll just have to see how many turn up at non-SA fixtures , but I'm hopeful that the big clashes will be well attended.

Well played Gibbs , although you carried a little luck and again , bad luck Gayle for having such numptyheads as teammates!

I think the 2 biggest problems the South African's face are the lack of slower bowlers, which Sledger pointed out, and the lack of Specialist batsmen in the team.
I counted 3 specialist batsmen in their team last night and quite a few all rounders.
I hope they have a couple more named in the squad or it could be lights out for them if any of the 3, Smith, Gibbs and De Villiers, pick up a serious injury.
The selectors would seriously regret putting Nel into the team if it happens.

Kemp , Pollock and Boucher are all boundary hitters Tykey - even Philander can clear the rope with some nice clean hitting.  I don't see SA being bowled out in 20 overs by any side , but I don't see them dismissing the top sides in that time either.
SA's fielding was no better than average last night , they'll work hard on that before Saturday.  I'm not writing SA off , but the spinning option or lack thereof , is a real handicap.  It's an old failing in selection - they just don't trust their tweakers and opt for an all seam attack.

Negative that , watch  Australia , Sri Lanka , India use at least two slow bowlers per match.
