thsi will be a good world cup for england i think, they have a good squad as they have ddone wjhat they should have done for years, by picking one day specialists.if wwe beat australia then we should go on to win this. Even if we are to lose all we have to do is beat zimbabwe and we will go through any way.

You can never count any one out not even Zimbabwe in such a short form of the game.It takes only 3-4 overs to turn over a Twent20 match!

Australia will win the group i think with England 2nd.

I though Zimbabwe were suspended from international cricket.

ZIM surely ain't winning this group. My school side can beat them with ease.

USA are suspended from international cricket.

Zimbabwe have 'merely' opted out of playing Test cricket.

Although given how their select XI, which was to all extents and purposes, a Test side, pushed South Africa last week, I wouldn't be too surprised if they're back in a few years.

why not we have beat australia at 20/20 before, and weve picked all our specialists, so whose to say we dont have a chance?

So a specialist village cricketer would perform better than a test cricketer in village cricket?

I concur 143. Let's see these specialists do the business against a fired up Brett Lee on a juicy pitch.

The good news is that there's a top clinic just up the road from Newlands.

I've got some faith in this England team.

But then I'm an England supporter so I pretty much have to have blind faith in whatever sport I'm following...

If Matt Prior will be England's keeper then they better be ready to concede 30 odd byes!

Don't panic Homer , England will have plenty of support in CT and I expect them to show some spirit.

From a supporter's perspective I'll leave the spirits alone , but will be vocal and down the odd pint!

Who knows , I might invade the pitch in the Oz game , kiss the umpire , strip off down to my CW underpants and push up the membership on the site by an order of magnitude!

.........then again , I might just be a run of the mill substitute fielder who runs out Ponting....

What are the rules on pitch invasions over there Sledge?

Over here, it's a £1000 fine and a criminal record.

I'd like to see you try and push that through the CW administration as expenses!!

Dont test the man.  I'll keep an eye out for your pitch invasion, Sledge.  ;-)

I'd like to see Johnson get a few games for OZ.  I still remember that deadly spell he bowled against India.  Got four wickets for next to nothing.  Fortunately for us, the match was abandoned due to rain or something.

Me and the gf are due a holiday mid September, but I don't think I can justify the £800 flights to SA for just 5 nights. That coupled with the fact if she found out why I wanted to go I might not be too popular.

In that respect you'll have to have a shout for me Sledge!

I'm still hoping there is some kind of coverage over here that isn't on Sky as I don't have it.

England should be glad to be in this group. They get very good experience by playing against Australia (even if the lose) so that maybe further on in the competition they will be better prepared to face them. They can definately beat Zim so they should certainly make it to the other round. As far as Australia is concerned...I see them winning this group.
Zim....well they should have probably been in a group with WI...they would have had a better chance of making it to the other round that way!

A blow for England, with Bopara ruled out of the tournament.

Flintoff is still doubtful with a dodgy ankle.

Going by the provisional squad, Mascarenhas, Yardy, Bresnan or Chapple would appear to be the logical favourites.

Other possibles might include Rob Key or Joe Denly or even Mal Loye.

I suppose it depends on how much value they place on Bopara's bowling as to whether they go for an all rounder or a specialist batsman.

As a total wild card how about a call up for Phil Mustard?
