I think this is the most even group in the cup. England in fine form, New Zealand dissapointing at times, but competitive in the CB Series, Kenya have some fine players for a minnow team and Canada are certainly not push overs.

Well NZ's performance against the Aussies today was great so hopefully for they can carry that over to the world cup except for when they are playing against West Indies...LOL

Bad luck for Jacob Oram and NZ , injuries  could well have a significant impact on the tournament.  With England playing NZ in the 1st match it's highly unlikely that Oram will be fit to start.
The game looks like being a close one and it's importance can't be overstated.
Mental disintegration works for me !!

I pick New Zealand to win this pool. Shane Bond is going to be the leading wicket-taker of the tournament and with Taylor, McMillan, Fulton and Oram in top batting form, not to mention the all-round skills of Vettori and the captaincy of Fleming, should give them the edge over England. England may have beaten Australia 3 times (out of 13 matches) this summer, but that is not enough to make them world-beaters. They do not have what it takes to go far in this world cup. I pick NZ for the semi-finals (and possibly even the final), and England an outside shot to make the semis (and a very 'outside' shot at that.
JH Kallis is the only player in history to have 8000 runs, 200 wickets and 100 catches in BOTH forms of the game. Only Sobers (tests) and Jayasuriya (one dayers) have achieved half that feat.

I won't underestimate England.....I think they are still one of the top teams and after beating the aussies they will definately think they have it in them to win the world cup. I think they can beat NZ as well. It's even with the both teams.......either of the two teams can win.......

NZ have the capability of hitting boundaries, their entire batting line up is in form bar Styris, who we all know is an excellent player.

England's batting line up is in poor form. The only man to really perform was Collingwood in those matches England won. Sure KP will be back but he hasn't batted in a match situation for a while so it might take him a game or two to find his feet. Don't expect him to hit a century the first match he is back.

Will see how this young England team go on the big stage, their bowling line up looks a little fickle bar Flintoff and Panesar, so too does the NZ lineup bar Bond and Vettori.

However NZ will have the belief they can chase down any total and that will be the key to the match. In all three games against Australia we chased, how confident are we of batting first?

If NZ chase they will win. If not, it will be a close game.
Good one Graham!

Conditions would definately have a great impact on the outcome of the match, both teams have come out of pitches assisting pace and bounce, will find pitches not conducive to their pacers.
Kiwis have advantage in spin & slow bowlers, styris and vetorri , and probably jetan patel add a better slow bowling option compared to monty and derylrample. ITs still to be seen how bond bowls on decent batting pitches, he is overdue to perform consistantly specially on pitches which have very low margin for error.
Both teams will lack no shortage of spirit for sure and the batting will be solid too, fielding has been almost neck to neck , with monty being the weak link, so its the bowling that would eventually make the diffrence.

NZ have more players capable of hitting boundaries, however with the short boundaries there we arguably have the better players for it, (KP and Freddie) which is another reason Loye should be in the squad, however it means other players that occasionally go for 6's when they are in (bell, Collingwood, Vaughan) will be more likely to hit them, so it will be an interesting match. The standard of bowling will definatly come into it, anyone able to restrict the other team while taking wickets will win, its as simple as that.

I don't think it will be the bowling that will make the difference. NZ were unluckly not to beat England every time. They thrashed them twice and then lost two games they should have won.

England are batting poorly at the moment! The only man who performed was Collingwood, unlike NZ who have a few players in good form.

A confident NZ team will beat a confident England team anyday.
Good one Graham!

Mental disintegration is a part of Aussie cricket and as the opposition, you should know that it is imminent. I liked it when Gayle and Samuels sledged them in the CT! They really got into their skin!

I'd prefer it if you wouldn't discuss Australia in their WC thread. This is pool C discussion only, okay.

Oram stating that if his finger does not heal sufficiently quickly he's quite prepared to have it amputated, and it didn't seem like he was joking, how ever he surly must be as losing a finger would take weeks of practise to get used to e.g working out a way to catch. And the weeks of rehibilitation would be ironic as he cut it off to play sooner at the WC

Its only his ring finger, its probably not too much of a loss overall, however personally i'd investigate some sort of flexiable splint.
