So who is the full time spinner that you thought the selectors should have chosen?

India's approach is interesting in a way, I suppose. It seems as though they arent taking the event too seriously but the guys that are selected will be playing for their careers (more than a few actually). Both the Pathans, the Sharmas and even the guys that are coming back into the side will have something to prove.

Sehwag for one. It would of been better if Rana and Akthar could have showed up in the firstxi so Sehwag can get some runs.

I'd say Saqlain if I could have picked any Pakistan spinner but because it would be highly unlikely that the Pakistan selectors would have picked him I'd have to go with the more obvious (but less impressive) choice of Danish Kaneria.

Kaneria is not a bad choice.......You would have to consider his batting ability though because it's 2020 so you never know if he'll be put in a position where he'll have to make runs for the team to win!

All he has to do is what all tailenders do (apart from infuriating the proper batsman), belt it one.
After all, T20 is the sloggers game. He shouldn't have to bat in a T20 match anyway. If the proper batsmen can't stick around for 20 overs then they deserve to lose.

In spinners department Pakistan got good bowlers like afridi, muhammad hafeez, abdul rehman, fawwad alam etc.
afridi is very helpful but I thin in 20/20 format Muhammad Hafeez is very good, he is that type of bowler who not only control the run but also take some wickets. I am also want to see what fawwad alam how he will perform in this world cup because at domestic level he is very handy, he can bat very well, he is a good fielder and most importantly he is a very good bowler.

yeah they do have good bowlers but how's their batting look? I know in 2020 cricket it's all about slogging so you need no real talent as a batsman to play this form of cricket. However, I mean for the future of the Pakistan team. Especially as they are going to lose two of their very valuable batsmen because of the ICL. Do they have any batsmen who will be able to replace these players?

LOL...Well Spin there is no player that could replace Yousuf or Inzi because as you said they are classy players (just like there is no one that could replace my favourite player because there is just no batsman exactly like him)....but it should be interesting to see who the Pak selectors will choose in their places.

Yuvraj has just backed Sehwag to come good in the T20 WC and in the process has also called him India's best opener since Sunil Gavaskar.
Sachin Tendulkar, anyone?

What about Sachin Tendulkar????????
We'll get to see tons of Young Indian cricketers coming up in the 20T (hopefully). Seems like it will be a good challenge for whole Indian team, since 3 main players are not playing. |

So true dhoniisbest, i am one for sure who will enjoy seeing some new young faces.
Sehwag maybe India best opener in test matches since Gavaska. not sure about Odi matches, or maybe a great mind game from Yuvraj to give Sehwag a load of confidence. Edited by BackFoot Master - 23 August 2007 at 11:03pm |

Could be. You never know.
Ofcourse, nothing would please me more than to see an in-form Sehwag at the T20 WC. A dash at the start from him, then some sensible batting in the middle and a few big ones in the end from Dhoni and Yuvraj should set up a big total.
Sounds so simple, doesnt it?

Haha, yeah, it does sound so. I guess it's that how for international players. Sehwag is one who can scare the hell out of a bowler. As Asif said, "he's too unpredictable."

India just dont seem to have a T20 type of a team!! They lack genuine all rounders and big hitters with the exception of Dhoni

Yuvraj, Sehwag, Uthappa and Pathan can all put it out of the ground without much difficulty |

Not uthappa!!! And others you name dont do it on consistent basis, sehwag may be one exception!! Not sure Pathan will play a part n the tournament. And they still do lack one genuine all rounder, part timers wont help th cause in t20 Edited by zuhair_abbasi - 24 August 2007 at 11:36am |

What's going on with Agarkar? Has he been out of the team for a while or is it that I'm not keeping up with Indian cricket? I think he is a very good bowler who has a lot of talent. I think it was during a series with the windies that he really impressed me. Then again you know the windies brings out the best in anyone....but I truly think that he is a good bowler...(nevermind the opposition).

Don't forget about Karthik, guys
I've seen him play, he can keep the match going pretty well. I love seeing him play. I have some doubts about Dhoni, because in his every first Twenty 20 match, he score "O" :(, which was really surprising. I see Yuvraj, Karthik, Uthappa, Sehwag (hopefully), and Dhoni getting some runs in matches. |
