WoW!..hah..
Cricketworld.com wouldn't update the last ball. You could imagine how suspenseful the moment became. They might just use R/R to decide the match's fate. |

They must be. The Zimbabweans looked absolutely petrified when it got tight there - Ireland must have sensed that and knew they were in with a chance.

I caught the end of this game and boy was it tense! I was rooting for Zim. Is a tie good for both teams then?

I think Ireland will be happier with it but yep, point for both teams apparantly.
I'd back ireland to give Pakistan some troubles if they keep up their inconsistancy. Ireland have good batsmen and the Pakistan bowling lineup is less then settled, add in a little luck with the ball and a bit better fielding and it could be good. |

What about that then!! Terrific entertainment by both sides ,
full of good , indifferent and bloody awful cricket !! The
inexperience of the Zimbos cost them at the death , but the Irish
skipper (born just down the road from Dublin!) could've sown it up if
he'd held on to that chance.
That's livened up procedings and the only tragedy was that not enough spectators were inside the ground. The ICC have done it again , the cheapest tickets were $25 , going up to $80! The average weekly wage on the island is just $60 , so just how were the locals supposed to afford that? It's madness , they're repeating the same failings of the 2003 WC. Let the locals in for $5 and the matches will have so much more atmosphere. Just watch today , Eng/NZ will play out to empty stands too - what a watsed opportunity. Still , let's not let the ICC ruin what was a great night's entertainment - it finished here at after 12.30 , this WC just has to be the best contraceptive known to man , the missus had disappeared hours before! Mine dissapeared just after Desperate Housewives, so I missed a bit of the game! I better get a Duel view!
It was definitely the best game to date from a spectator point of view.
I really enjoyed Bray's unbeaten innings, and the tense final 5 overs of the Zim innings. The result of this game puts another big qeustion mark against Zim's test status.
I was suprised by the big Irish support!

I'd agree that it was inexperience that cost the Zimbabwe side in the final overs.
When Taylor and Matsikenyeri were batting it was a formality, but after the run out (and there is a saying about the luck of the Irish) the incoming batsmen all froze and disastrously failed to rotate the strike, although Johnston led the Irish quite impressively in the field. God, what a finish! Fantastic for Oireland, it was one of those rare games where I don't think it could have mattered more to me even if England were playing, it was that exciting. Shame about the catch at the end I really thoguht that was in, but oh well...as far as I can remember, the best finish to a game of cricket I've ever seen.
Also, I was very impressed with the Irish captain, very cool under pressure, very steady, had fielders in all the right places and had the guts to be positive too...the fielder being in at short cover to take that catch for the wicket late on was really brave but the right call at that stage, plenty of the top side's captains wouldn't have had the guts to put him in there |

Yeah so was I! Considering that cricket isn't a major sport in Ireland, quite a few of their countrymen made the trip....and the atmosphere they created was fantastic! I look forward to their next match.
I backed Ireland to win the match....so I didn't know if to be happy or crappy about the result (got my money back). Some fielding blunders cost the Irish dearly. They easily could've won the match by running out Matsikenyeri when he was on 0 or then catching him later on the boundary. Still the draw was a great result for the men in green.
Some of the cricket might've been below average...but I doubt that we will get a more exciting finish to a match at this World Cup.

Nice kit too!!....I would love to see Ireland become a 'big' cricketing nation......they would bring a lot of culture to the game, I would imagine.

Lol, its nice to see other countries rake part in such a fantastic sport as cricket. Americans dont seem to get it though... but it would be nice to have more countries participate. Even Japan. Lol

Oh dont get me started on the ignorance of most of the North American people about cricket. Just yesterday I was discussing the Netherlands' chances in the WC with a friend of mine from Amsterdam and this Canadian guy walks up to us and this is what followed:
Canadian: Cricket!!!?? Who watches cricket?
Me: Only maybe a billion people.
Canadian: Is it even a pro sport??
Me: OH MY GOD!!!
Him: Why dont they just play baseball?
Me: Because baseball sucks!!
He then rolled his eyes and walked away.

Ireland pretty immpressive so far, and one thing they have achieved is a sense of respect from pakistanis, and a few wickets, or a few shots, they are in for a match. Pakistan will have a lot more pressure than the Irish, infact Irish will come in the match with having a better standing in the pool than pakistan. Come on Inzi and co, nothing but a confident thrashing would tell us that you mean business!

Shamrock meets Jam-rock in Jamaica.
Wonderful bowling and fielding from the Irish giving the Pakistanis nothing. Who is still saying the minnows shouldn't be here? |
