A general question to all forum members here, which is when you are at the crease which approach do you take towards the bowlers. For example, do you try and attack every ball, do you play yourself in and then attack, or do you play steadily and only really attack when you need to? Also if you know your strike rates and batting averages try and put them up here too.

As for me, I'm not anything like an Afridi who tries to attack every single ball, I like to play myself in and try to get to 10 or 15 runs in around 20 to 25 balls before I begin to really play my shots. In a 40 over game I started off slowly with 20 from 45 balls when for the last 10 overs I started to play my shots seriously and got to 53 from 65 balls before getting out with a couple of overs left. I'm a sort of person that only really attacks when I need to get the runs, or I will normally go around trying to get the singles and the odd boundary, or around 4 or 5 runs an over.

I do record all my scores in a book, my strike rate is around 77 in 40 over cricket and around 115 in Twenty20 games. My averages are 26.7 in 40 over games and 18.8 in Twenty20 cricket.

So what is your style of play and if you know your strike rates and averages what are they?
On extended leave...

I try to attack the majority of deliveries and be agressive, I sometimes take it too far though and get out playing stupidly.

Although I've got a reputation as a big hitter, I tend to start very slow - if I try and hit out from the word go I generally fail miserably. The thing is, I'm rubbish at nurdling, so early on when I don't have my eye in enough to hit the big shots I tend to block block block and sometimees that can make me feel under pressure to score and I play stupid shots. If I get my eye in and start hitting I can be very destructive, two highlights of my batting career being a 30-ball (estimate) 49* and a 22-run over containing three sixes. Unfortunately that feeling of "he could get himself out at any moment" is generally still there, next season I'm looking to a) improve my decision making and cut out stupid shots and b) get better at nudging singles, particularly early on, to take the pressure of myself when I'm not hitting boundaries

im same as chim music i always feel under pressure wen i dont score runs becausze my team kindoff depends on me to score . the highlight of my career ( which is not very long so far ) is when the other team hit 80 in a 20 over match i was batsman number 1 and retired as i hav to at 20 the rest of my team got practicall golden ducks we were at 60 for 9 so i cam back in and stayed on strike we had 2 overs left i hit 5 fours and then a single and we won the game whch was special to me because my coach was given me a chance at captain and i also ecouraged my team alot .

like chin music i always play stupid shots and get put out and feel bad the rest of the day.i also really wanted to know my batting average and that so i am prob going to record my batting scores and that because this other player in my team got a trophy for best batsman whch goes by average and im sure i should have won it

If it is a limited overs match i'll try to get the run rate as early as i can i the over and then just play defensivly taking a few singles here and there. I also have a reputation as a boundary hitter but i only do that my team is under the run rate or my partner is struggling to get bat on ball. I rarly get out bowled. I also seem to have trouble with off spinners that bowl out side off stump halfway down the pitch. Then it spinns back into me like a bouncer and i either snick it to the keeper by playing a pull shot, getting hit or leave it. I tend to play more defensivly on off spinners but I am extremly aggresive to legspinners.

I am a restrained player who loves to occupy the crease as long as I can. I bat no 6-7 in 3 day cricket and at no 3 or 7 in 40 over cricket depending on the opposition. My side had lot of dashing players and I was the stabiliser for them.

I am a good nudger of the ball, and I just love the backfoot square drive. Not a good sweeper, but I use the feet to spinners whenever I can. Once I hit Piyal Wijetunga for three sixes in one over but hit a return catch against Murali, way back in 1990 when we played against St Anthony's Kandy in school season.

Well me, I play the ball on the merit you can say. If I just come in and the ball is there to hit for 6 runs then so be it. Thats the way I play my game; you bowl bad, I will punish you. I once made a ton in a school match probably of 70 balls. Some 11 fours and 7 sixes! I was brutal that day!

If the bowlers are bowling well though, I tend to throw away my wicket! I hate to be contained for too long.

To be honest, I try to play myself in, but if there is a a bad ball there, don't be afraid to hit it. I know from watching a couple of lads down at the club I play for, the first ball of the innings have been hit for six. It just depends on where the ball is, the confidence you have etc

I'm mainly a tail ender and normally play very defensively. But if runs are needed and my eyes i can score a quick 10 or 15.

I try not to get hit, that's a start! LOL

I play differently each time I play. If I played 6 or 7 defensive shots in arow I find I can't play an attacking shot so that tactic goes out the window very quickly!

I always get out against spinners, partly because I run down the wicket and miss! LOL

I'm extremely defensive and once Ive opened up I like to advance down the wicket and play through the offside trying to keep the ball down, I'm an opener so I rarely need to open up unoless Ive played some wonder innings or something. I think in a 50 over game it is OK for an opener to have a 60 strike rate as I think you need a guy like that to stabilise the side. Thats my role hopefully. LOL

Unless he's the next Don Bradman or something, he will not have that average combined with that strike rate plus you cant just gett hat good in a year, especially how he was ok the year before he has suddenly transformed in to the don, the guys a liar and is sad for lying on a cricket forum.

The quality of the bowling in Under 13's isn't all that special, so it's a possibility. Getting lot's of Not Outs helps that aswell.

I was a awful batsman for most of the time. But I hit one of the puplest of patches any one would have. I was a strong slogger early on, but turned in to a player palying super-straight. I used to hit everything on the up some times advancing to the bowler unless it is very short. Lot of muscle from rugby helped in the course. My favorite shot was the pick up on the leg side using a straight bat. Used to hammer fast bowlers to the stands when this was coming off.

Yeah! it's like a flu, catching everybody. Most of Schools in big cities are involved in some keenly contested rugby. There are about 16 clubs in upper division tournament. Kandy, CR & FC and Navy teams are the leading at the moment.

Unfortunately we are bit low on body mass, but there are lightening quick movers. What we fail is on defence. Frontline is not that effective when plenty of direct contact is used!
Well only now we see half of a particular team being six footers!

Defence is more about organisation and communication than strength, and a guy of any size can tackle a big guy if his technique's right...I'm amazed you play rugby though, I'd never have thought it.

When I was 18, I played all sorts of things. Cricket was my favorite, but it was so time consuming. Rugby was OK and it's the sport of choice for us in P.T. sessions. I am not that thorough with techniqes, but I was a ferociusly rough defender who was always asking for plenty of contact. My "well built" frame packed 100kg so I was "something" on the local circuit (now I am bit slimmer or wasted) and I played few matches at U-19 level for my school which is the premier and leading school of the country.

So most of people here are aware about it, but coaching is not that great I have to say. Only rich scools like mine could afford a coach of inernational or even national standards.

70 degree spin, you're an idiot. I play with this guy who averages about 370 (look up the stats). And he did make a hundred. Off about 40 balls. and we still lost.
