I didn't realize you guys played on cement sometimes zuhair. Guess I'm just so used to England where we don't have any cement wickets at all (I don't think I've ever played on one, event he U10's play on turf).

Had an average day on Sunday, my captain put me down at 6 for the T20 game despite the fact I'd scored as many runs for the season as most of the rest of the top 5 put together. Predictably we crawled along and I came in in the 19th over before getting stumped for nought trying to hit a huge six. We only posted 99 and they won by 3 wickets. I know it sounds arrogant but I think that if I opened we could have won it with the form I'm in.

Then I had another game straight after where we were sent into bat on a terrible wicket. I opened up and we lost 2 quick wickets, I had a good partnership with our number 4 and I started to time it well. I even hit a huge 6 over long on which is very rare for me (first in over a year). Unfortunately 2 balls later I was given out caught behind and I'm certain I didn't hit it. I got 31 and we posted 153-8 declared. In reply they lost regular wickets until they got 1 good partnership together, I came on to bowl my leg breaks and nearly broke it in my first over when I had a catch dropped at short fine leg. I bowled fairly well and got 3-0-10-0. I then got a run out to break the partnership and we took a few wickets near the end before they settled for the draw and they finished on 130-8.

Nice stuff mate!! Try become the captain of your team

It is not sometimes Slogger. It is 80% of the cricket one plays on cement before coming up to the FC level in Pakistan. I remember playing with Afridi and Hasan Raza on cement tracks.

In all fairness, the quicky who got about 10 wkts was the man of the match, he put it in the perfect areas for that sort of wicket.  I was by far though my team best player for that game!

Most of the hard ball cricket in Pakistan (specially in Karachi) i splayed on cement wickets. It is an entirely different proposition. A very few players get the chance to play on turf at club level. Thankfully, I have played most of my cricket on Turf as I played for Karachi city team and a few big clubs. Cement pitches are also a reason why you will find most of the pace men coming from Pakistan trying to get LBWs or bowled out. Because there is no seam movement off the pitch and there is hardly any spin for the spinners. And that is also why the younger batsmen who have played most of their cricket on cement, mostly struggle when they play on turf.

I've had a lot of practice on concrete wickets and while they have no help for seamers, it's good to bat on, the ball comes on well (if the concrete strip was well created that is).  I actually enjoy practicing my leggies on the concrete strip.  I get my leggies (over spinners) to consistently land on the seam so I do get a lot of bounce

I actually reckon I should be, the guys only captain because he's oldest but he's a really terrible captain. Sadly captaincy and wicketkeeping is quite tough to do (for me anyway).

Why do you always play on cement wickets? Is it because grass pitches are too hard to maintain?

W/K have the best view in the house and that's why I think Dhoni does a good job at captaining India - he also has a charisma factor to him which helps a lot too.  I've played a few U19 trial games where the keeper was the skipper and I got to admit, he did a fantastic job.

Yeah it doesn't automatically mean you can't captain if you're wicketkeeper, but I've always found my keeping suffers when I captain I tend to make more mistakes because I'm thinking about the field and bowling changes.

I had yet another school game yesterday. They batted first and got off to a flyer, at one stage they looked like getting 200 off the 30 overs, but in the end they fell away and finished 160-6,  which was a decent total but not impossible to get. I opened up and my partner got off to a flyer and made 30 before getting out and leaving us at 53/1. That proved to be the only success their bowlers go as I finished 68* and our number 3 finsihed 50*. We had a great partnership and ran really well together (apart from one horrible mix up). Sounds like I may be playing 1st team cricket this Saturday which is quite a daunting prospect.

No, my personnal best is still 72* which I got 5 years ago. I really thought I was going to beat it on Saturday but I fell 1 run short in the end. I have a feeling I'll beat it this season though because I still haven't played many adult club games and I should have a pretty decent chance of getting to 3 figures then.

Funny game this cricket. Last season I had felt washed up as a bowler, and this carried on into pre-season nets where I was just horrible and never swung a single delivery - which is a pretty big failing when you bowl left arm over.

So ahead of our first game I am thinking I'll see how it goes but phase out the bowling as we go along this season. Except in that first game, without bowling especially well, and still not swinging a single delivery, I somehow bowl 11 overs on the spin and take 5 for 24.

I'm not sure what effect this had, but a week later, playing with some tatty old ball, and all of a sudden I can't control the swing, it's going all over the place. Even the intended outswingers are hooping back into the right handers, and I ended up having to aim off the side of the pitch to have any hope of getting it near the stumps.

Had a 2020 game yesterday.  Records were shattered!  Nevermind the standard in this competition isn't by anymeans competitive, bar a side called "The Aussies" and my team.

Anyhow, we won the toss, batted first and rocked up 303-3.  I slammed a career best of 160 and that's also a record for highest individual score in this competition (beating 152 by my fellow team mate).  We also had about 140 odd runs opening partnership, which is another record.  We won the game by 262 runs, which is another record.

Had a really good time with the bat.  Only missed chance was when the keeper missed a catch when I was on 38.  I hammered some big sixes and again, my leg side play was awesome!

160, that's an awesome effort spin, well done.

I'm suffering today after my last couple of games where the ball has taken a fancy to thudding into me. First last week I missed a slip chance off a nippy bowler where I never even got a hand on it and it went straight into my stomach. That didn't hurt too much - I was more irritated at not catching it - but left me with a nice ball shaped bruise.

Then yesterday when batting first I got a ball that exploded off a very full length, so I very quickly dropped the hands to stop myself getting out, and took it on my upper arm instead.

"Did it hurt?" asked a nearby fielder, more in hope than concern.

"No...but it will later" I replied (and boy did I get that right).

Two balls later another one leapt off a length, this time crashing into my stomach and ribs. As it was the end of the over I walked up the pitch, taking a small detour towards the same fielder, smiled and told him"Now, THAT one hurt".

I'm really surprised how sore both those still are, almost 30 hours later, and my body looks like I have been given a good hiding!

Blimey Clobs , you have been in the wars !   Early season pitches huh - nothing a bit of sunshine won't put right.
Brilliant performance SW , but the other mob can't have been up to much!  Bowled out for 41 - good job you batted first mate!  I bet their bowling figures were scary!

Wow thats an amazing effort spin well played.

I had a game on Saturday that I still haven't posted about, we won the toss and batted first, I got 36 before dragging one on to my stumps, my opening partner got 115 and we put on about 140 odd for the first wicket. No-one else contributed much and we finished at 252-6. They didn't bat very well and only made 132 all out. I got 2 catches as keeper so it was a reasonable day for me. Unfortunately that dismissal ended a run of 80 overs in school cricket without being out, I scored 175 runs in that time (71* in 35 overs, 68* in 25 overs and 36 in 20 overs).

Great going SW and Slogger!!! Keep it up mates.

Had a mixed day at the ground last Sunday. Was caught behind on the first ball I faced, and could only take two lower middle order wickets. Quite disappointing performance considering the expectations that my teammates have from me.

Hmmm,Off season so I hardly actually play, but I played a match with random teams.(I.E.,some players who play locally and me just chose random teams and played a match, pretty simple way of practicing!)

I ended up bowled for 1 with a horrible attempt at a cover drive, and got figures of 1-0-18-0!
Probably a record for worst econimy for me!

I didn't look at the scorecard but my bro told me 4.0.38.1 was the best bowling figures.  Someone went for 78 off 4 overs.

80 overs is nothing to shiv, but I certainly bat as slowly as him . I was 9* after 17 overs in the game I got 36, I then hit 3 consecutive fours, then I got a few more in quick time and I was gone by the 20th.

2 weeks into my preseason training now. Already seeing some slight improvements in terms of strength but that's not really the aim of this months training. I'm just really keeping the body in some sort of shape for when I start training in earnest, in 2 weeks time.

I have a 40-over a side match at National Stadium Karachi tomorrow. Playing for Rashid Latif Cricket Academy. There will be at least 7 test players playing the game. I am so excited. I hope I perform.

Sad story on my side here.  Had a two day game yesterday but only 5 of our guys showed up so we last by default.  The pitched looked such a beauty, flat, wonderful covering of grass, felt hard and it wasn't fully dried out yet due to overnight and morning rain.

Anyhow, I'm over on my home Island and should have a 2020 game in 2 hours time if the weather stays good.  It's been consistently overcast now for the last 4 weeks I'd say.
