Topic: Hussey survives Posted: 21 November 2005 at 4:42am |
The next squad for the 3rd test has been named.
Mike hussey stays in after his 100 odd runs and langer returns,so someone has to go??Who misses out?
The wonder boy,Clark,he has been omitted,What i was wondering in this thread is,how many wonder boys do you here of that come in with a blaze of glory, papers are making him the new bradman and whammo a few tests later they are out on there bums....?
I think Clark will get himself back in ,nearly every aussie in the team has been dropped before, but i remember Graham Hick,he was going to be a superstar,I think young Petierson will need to score ,and soon or he to may follow clarks ,leed. Who else does anyone else remember as being a ten test wonder or a couple of games wonder and outski???
Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Hodge
Hussey
Symonds
Gillchrist
warne
lee
MaGill
McGrath
12th man????
if you think cricket dont change in the course of 2 months go ask,
Katich,
Martyn,
Clark
,Gillesspi
,Kasprowich
,Tate,
Watson,
Bracken,
and probobly more, but this lot all had a hand in the ashes test matches or super series test and they are no longer in ,for whatever reason,Does this show the strengh of aussie cricket that 8 players can be dropped out in a couple of tests and they are still going on without any real concerns? Or do you know any other test team that can lose 8 players in 2 or 3 tests sinse the ashes and still be as competative?
Interested in others thought s??????

Clarke just hasn't performed this year really John - he needs to go away and look at his technique. He has talent , that's for sure , but it needs harnessing. When an ex-player as flamboyant as Mark Waugh says he plays too many shots , then he must be over the top!!
He'll be back , he's young and isn't dumb . I fancy he'll be back in the middleorder against South Africa.
As for Graeme Hick , he'd scored trillions of runs in the time taken to qualify for England , but he was unfortunate to play against Ambrose and Walsh in their pomp. Being tall , he battled to evade the short ball and they peppered him back then - he was a sorry sight.
England have had too many players to mention who were in and out of the side , sharpish. Not to mention the next Fred Trueman / Ian Botham /Geoff Boycott !!
Dean Headley ,Chris Lewis, Alex Tudor , Matthew Maynard , Arnie Sidebottom , Ronnie Irani , Chris Cowdrey , Norman Cowans and hundreds more that don't come to mind at 7.10am on a MOnday morning!!
Headley was probably the unluckiest in that list - injuries put paid to a promising career. Similar scenario with Alex Tudor , though he is playing again now after a string of injuries.

Hi Pete,How are you going?
How did liverpool go,or is it tonight???
Yes i think you are right with Hick,he had a great techniche and he has always reminded me of Mathew Hayden, who was similar at early age and ripped bowling attacks apart in domestic cricket but when he went up to test level,he could not handle the likes of ambrose, wasim, etc, after years on the outside he finaly got another shot and changed his shots a bit and has flourished ,however after the ashes i guess he will still have a query against genuine pace, especially reverse swing,I dont know but did you find the 2 were similar kind of players?
I think if Graham Hick would have been in either the Aussie team or the Sth African for that matter and had some protection and other top class batsmen with him he would have been a superstar,i think just becuase he was the class batsman during a poor period for batsman in eng,he was targeted, but if anyone had every shot in the book and was destined for stardom it was that bloke, and what a shame we didnt get to see it.to good to never play as much tests as he should have/?

Liverpool beat Portsmouth 3-0 on Saturday mate - Crouch missed a penalty too , he still hasn't scored for us!!
Hick was the mercurial flat track bully , but he didn't fancy it much on a lively pitch and crazy quicks charging in !!

Hey Pete, saw some highlights of the india and sth af game,is it de-villiers/?i think thats his name, bats up top?Anyway he looks a real prospect for the SAs,i was really impressed with him and he just looks class,im sure thats his name.
I hope SA have not just picked Smith because he was young and they were looking to the future captain as he really needs to start to use his nouse a bit,i dont know your thoughts on him but to me he really needs to motivate and do something different as he just seems to go with the flow,he done it against the aus in super series and from what i saw he is still just letting the game play out when he can be forcing results as they have th team, its like he dont have the faith in his players?????
Hey great stuff liverpool,i didnt see that result, harry didnt play did he?

AB deVilliers is a terrific little player John - handy wicketkeeper too !! He's got all the shots and plays pace and spin well - he's definitely one of SA's brightest prospects for some years.
Smithy is a hard taskmaster mate - he hates losing!! Having said that , he's still learning. India is a tough place to play and he must use the experience of Pollock ,Kallis and Boucher to keep the side going forward. He's not too proud to do that either , which is a feather in his cap. He's very important to the side , especially with Gibbs sat at home. He's in good form and scoring quickly - if SA are to do well here , he'll have a great bearing on that happening.
His captaincy isn't the best and sometimes he looks as if he doesn't know who to turn to , but he's a trier and the best man for the job.

I'll just say something related to the topic...
Great performance by Mike Hussey in the second test after his horrible performance in the first test. A century (137) and I think a 30 not out. He deserves to be in the squad for the third test.

Not sure about him being adopted, but he was born in Birmingham, U.K
before he moved to Australia. He could have played for England but
chose Australia instead.
