Young team trying to make an impact...
Since you took all the ICC events as a reference,
Players with 30+ years in Pak team which played the SF - 6 which is exactly equal to that of Srilanka.

Calm down mates. Well I do agree that Pakistan does reasonably well in ICC events - it is far from being the best but they are very much on the road of progression and I will take the slow progress. And I share Sam's sentiments here regarding Sri Lanka - they will find life tough without Murali and Malinga in the longer version especially away from home.
And Kiran - I don't think you should drag religion into this. This is uncalled for. At no point did Sam make any reference to religion when it comes to his supporting Pakistan. My wife supports New Zealand whenever they play - and she takes no stock in Pakistan - and she is very much a Pakistani - I just digest it as her personal liking/disliking. |

Not gonna get too deep into this debate. Though I can see where kiranki is coming from with regard to sam not rooting for his home team, I still strongly believe that its his own prerogative to support or disengage from whichever team he chooses to, no matter how hard it maybe to comprehend with.
And yes SL will find it tough to fill the void left by Murali. Randiv's a good talent and the SL management will have to make it loud and clear to him that he's not there to fill Murali's boots. And I do think SL's chance to fight for the top spot in both versions of the game is as good or maybe slighty better than Pakistan's(considering they ahead of Pakistan) as of now. But they'll need someone among Fernando, Welegedara , Dammika Prasad or Kulasekara to step up along with Malinga in the pace department. |

The two teams being discussed were Pak and SL, from what little Geography I know Sam, SL and Pak both are our neighbours.
You said good about about Pak, while Kirankri came up with good words about SL. Then you said he could not take good written about our neighbour (Pak), while you seem to gladly forget that even SL is our neighbour.
The thing that you wrote (the one that I highlighted in RED), is really uncalled for, when at the first place you being Indian have written so many good things about Pakistan. How could you say that say that Indians don't take anything good about Pakistan.I am confused.
Anyway chill mate!

Kiran, What is wrong in supporting someone from same religion ? It is a matter of personal choice. As long as intentions are secular, there is no hatred towards other religions and sects. As long as one is politically correct, supporting a person from same religon is perfectly valid. In sports , support your country first then anyone else would be ideal scenario. But then its just personal choice.
Sam has said time and again that he is not an Indian Cricket fan , that all to it. Nothing more. He also has said how much he loves India.
Just in cricket he supports Pakistan cricket team , it has nothing to do with religion or anything else. Personal choice, I have nothing against it.
Anyway, there are few things to note aswell

Few days back, Sam said this about me...
Kiran has not made remark on any religion or sect. A better choice of word would have been good, but then maybe he had read few earlier posts of Sam and that correlation developed somewhere in his mind. But for sure he has not made any religious remark on any religion or anyone. |

This is seriously damaging my reputation, totally baseless and uncalled for comments made in sheer frustration of I don't know what.
To Kiran - It is disgusting to say that I cannot digest the WC victory of India, not one single post of mine would suggest that, this is downright pathetic, I like Pak cricket and hence I say some good things about them, I would certainly want them to be the best team in all formats, how on earth is this related to India is completely beyond me. Please clarify on what basis have you made your comments. To Raj - you are quoting my comments completely out of context or should I say giving them a different context, this is extremely disappointing. saying that many people look at Pak as a "muslim representation" how on earth, or even on other planets, is this related to saying that they are "muslim representation"? as for my later comment, it was a plain statement which stated that since it were three muslim players who were involved in a corrupt act and since many people across the world look at Pak as a "muslim representation" it is an embarrassment for all Muslims too. does this mean that I'm saying "all muslims are corrupt" or "all pakistani's are corrupt?" or "pakistan is a muslim representation"? nowhere have I said any such thing. Finally, by God's grace, I have many non-muslim friends who very well know that I support Pakistan and they have absolutely no problems with that. There is a friend of mine, she also supports Pakistan and a lot of her colleagues even tease her whenever a Pak match is scheduled asking her is she is going to be ill on that day and will be taking a leave. There is another friend of mine, he is a non-muslim, and is as big a pakistani fan as I have seen in my life, he even fights with people if they say anything against Pak cricketers. Add to this I know many many many people who support Australia, RSA, and other countries but it doesn't mean they don't love their country. I'm one of the biggest followers of Indian sports, I do not have to support Indian cricket team or hate Pakistani cricket team to show my patriotism. For me Indian cricket is not equal to Patriotism and I pity those who think on these lines. As I have said many times before, my first choice team was India till the match fixing scandal broke out, they way they treated Azhar after that lead to my change of heart and I started supporting Pakistan after that, what I speak is the truth, whether you believe it or not is up to you, but please no one has the right to make baseless comments against me. To Zuhair and V4P - Thanks guys, I hope you will always understand your fellow human beings in the right spirit. Edited by sam_ahmed - 15 April 2011 at 9:26pm |

and just one last thing to Kiran, mate one of the things Islam teaches is to love your country above all other countries, recently during the WC the imam of a mosque during friday prayers said that we all should support India in the WC but at the same time should not waste time on watching too much of these matches, like missing prayers or not studying / working etc... so mate if you think I'm doing this because of religious bias, I should actually be supporting India if I should really be doing anything as per religion.
I'm extremely extremely disappointed at the comments. |

Well sam , In my post I have clearly told how much you love India.I very well know that there is no relation with religion whatsoever in you supporting Pakistan cricket.
But, you keep saying some comments , that is what I pointed out
Posted: 29 August 2010 at 3:48pm
I am not saying anything against you , coz I know you are a true Indian just like each one of us, but please don't make such careless comments every now and then.
It is really funny, you correlate something and assume something which is totally not realted and no one said , while the text you yourself wrote, you say it is out of context when referred.
In your own analogy, Salman Butt was your favourite too , so does it mean that now you should stop supporting Pakistan Cricket ?

yes Zuhair, for the sake of the forums I will not drag this on the forum, esp on a thread which I started for WC discussion.
I have answers to all your questions Raj, including your remarks in red which are not to be generalized. I'll PM you my response as posting here is inappropriate. Anyone who has to say anything to me on this can PM me, we need not post on the forum please. |

Thanks Raj for digging into those threads to justify my opinion. And yes, even I don't want to drag this topic. All I can say is, my opinion is not baseless. And Raj, you have echoed my thoughts w.r.t Azhar's case. Even Jadeja was given the same treatment. And for your info Sam, Azhar has been one of the long serving captain for India. And there have been Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi also who captained India.
And if that is the reason behind not supporing Indian cricket, Pak would have been the last country you would have supported. Not sure which is the country having least no. of match fixing allegations. May be England or New Zealand? You should have supported those teams.
Anyway, I don't have anything personal against you. Was just pointing out the wrong thoughts.

On constructing those facts, Raj makes a good point. But nonetheless, this is only a cricket forum. I don't know why Sam supports Pakistan, I don't think the reasons he put up are necessarily correct - there probably isn't a reason. He just like Pakistan and wants to support them, and don't see why he even needs to justify it. I really like Pakistani cricket, maybe more than Indian cricket, because there's a certain rawness about it - kind of like Calypso cricket in the West Indies. Plus, I'm the type of guy who prefers to watch amazing bowling, rather than amazing batting and you get that with Pakistan. Wasim, Waqar, Saqlain and Shoaib were the guys I grew up watching, while I've seen heaps of footage of Imran, Abdul Qadir, etc. I can't say any Indian bowler has ever really caught my eye and left me in awe.
I am not a Muslim by the way (religious conviction has no part in what teams or players I prefer). I just like Pakistani style of cricket. Maybe that's what Sam likes too. Perhaps there is a slight religious bias, but I heavily doubt that that is the sole reason for him supporting Pakistan. I also enjoy Indian cricket, I count Sachin as one of my favourite cricketers. Certainly India has added so much to the game. They are not heavily liked here in Australia, but all in all, it is unthinkable to have cricket without India. I don't think I need to add my voice to this, Mikey has just pointed out all I was going to.
It shows what lateness does. P.S. It's been a while since I've talked to an Aussie fan who actually liked Tendulkar, I twas getting tired of the 'Ricky Ponting is better than Tendulkar' fans, seeing as that is what I've had to talk to recently!(Not counting this forum, since I've been away for a while.) |

So where's Poonam Pandey???
Vanished into thin air after the WC. For those not up to speed Poonam Pandey's a small-time model who had promised to strip should India win the WC. Guess it was just her shot at '60 secs to fame'. P.S : Watch this space... |
