You have to give the credit to Sammy. He has build a team of many brillant individuals. They beleave that they can win without Gayle and they proved it. I am really very happy for West Indies. Looking forward for more dance from them on the field.
Pollard is still just a league player. If they can get some solid Batsmen in the lineup then they have a realy good odi team as well. |

yes Sammy always does his bit, Pollard has never really been good on slow wickets kahmed, but I think on tracks where the ball comes on to the bat a lot better, he can be devastating, saw that century against India last year in an ODI and he was absolutely hammering the ball, not a great player by any means, but I'd say they should stick with Pollard for the time being.
Also I think the very presence of Chris Gayle gives immense confidence to WI team, irrespective of whether he clicks or not!

Pollard's weakness is that he is not an off side player, the guy hardly hits any boundary through the off side. You keep on hearing Ian Bishop on commentary, a fello Trinidadian himself, always saying the way to bowl to Pollard is outside the off stump. Guys use their general cricket knowledge of "not bowling width" but that's their downfall. If you bowl straight to pollard, regardless of full or short, he'll murder you if his eye is in. This is why Chris Gayle is superior to all the big hitters like Pollard, Afridi etc, he can blaze sixes regardless of which line you bowl the ball.

For me Pollard wont hit to quality bowling even if they bowl straight to him. I dont think he can destroy bowlers like Steyn, Finn like Gayle does.

Pollard is not a class act kahmed, Gayle is, but Pollard doesn't have to be, it is not necessary for big hitters to be able to hit the best bowlers in the world, it's all about being sensible enough to see them off and target the lesser bowlers, not all teams will have 4-5 bowlers of the caliber of Steyn or Finn playing at the same time.
... and Spinny I'll be pleased if Afridi becomes a "hitter" or at the moment even "hits a ball with his bat" (again "hit" not "nick") let alone being a "Big Hitter".
