IPL so close is such an anti climax after WC 2011 campaign, anyway the world is getting busier by day. Can't help but to start enjoying regional emo's now. Ok then , won't post much. I want the curious case of Rohit and Robin to be solved soon. Want them in the Indian cricket team. They are the future. I know many on the forum might not agree with me.What I wish is Robin Uthappa to blast one more time and force his way into Indian T20 side. The guy is so so so talented.
Word on Rohit: There is no doubt on this guy.The only question remains is when he will start delivering the goods?
Word on Robin: This guy does not understand what talent he has in him.He should learn adding price tag to his wicket from likes of Gambhir. If I was BCCI's guy, I would go to him and say "Hey Robin , once Shewag calls it a day , you should take his spot".

Yes Zuhair it is difficult for Robin to force into team now. Top 7 selects themselves in ODIs. Rohit is still waiting outside queue as Virat and Raina have their spots sealed.
What Robin needs to do is wait for an opporunity when few of the seniors take rest. You can expect Sachin/Shewag/Gambir , one of them taking breaks. When such a chance comes he should be ready.
For that he needs to put good performances in domestic circket. He does not do great there which is his first problem. Lesser the opposition, lightly he takes them.It is not the attitude, but he does not get himself motivated enough at lower levels.
He thinks performing at IPL/Highest level is everything.
So I just want him to make it into T20Is for starters.

I hope I don't get to see Rohit again! He's just not made the transformation! More like an Indian version of Mohammad Ashraful.
The IPL's not exciting me too much this year except for the fact that I'll get to see Gilly, Warne and Dravid in action. Its too close to the World Cup and it just gives the Indian and the Sri Lankan players no time to rest! |

I must agree that it came too soon after the WC. Not fair on the players and the fans too ( we still need to let it sink it completely). It would have done a world of good to the IPL tournament had they had atleast 3 to 4 weeks gap in between. The spectators and players would've been well refreshed by then esp. with India winning and all, the crowd would be in good spirits.
I too enjoy it like a carnival or festive tournament of sorts, do not crave for it but enjoy watching it after a long day's work. |

Yes, it a stress free support from spectators point of view. Just go to the stadium with friends , shout your vocal cord out. Even if we lose we come out happy as the wining team is one among us or we have lot of our favourite players in the opposition, Some just relax and enjoy raining sixes and four or last minute choke by batting team from the luxuary of our drawing room. But it's nothing like the party n fun atmosphere during IPL matches in stadium, have been to many IPL matches, that rush, hurry up with parking then rush inside the stadium, finding your friends, finding a seat, trying to call a friend on phone when we can't even listen to our own voice, that mexican wave, those mindless shouting at IPL theme music.
Light hearted sledging and teasing the opposition fans...then food ...munch on chips, burgers, fried items, vegetable salads, variety of Indian delicacies (specific to each region), ice cream, fruits and all sorts of stuff in stalls ... add coke and soft drinks to that ...at the end we die for a packaged water bottle which is hard to get by the time match ends which is sometimes is sold at premium higher than coke and pepsi.

Looking forward to a Modi-less tournament. Can't fathom why the game needed such a fellow. Nonetheless, I think slowly we'll start seeing the Champions League becoming more important than the IPL, as other cricketing nations will seek to share the spoils of IPL. If the cricket world stops for 6 weeks for a domestic T20 tournament (i.e. the creation of the window) then this can only occur, and will only get the support of foreign cricket boards if those boards share the spoils of IPL. Otherwise, Cricket Australia and other boards will be happy enough to schedule tests/ODIs and make money during the IPL season.

With or without him.... Does not make any difference.Modi had put lot of efforts in building what IPL is today.I appreciate what he did good, some places he had more greed which I disapprove. He had to go by rule, but he did some mistakes , so he is paying the price now. No point in thinking about Past, enjoy the tournament for what it is, enjoy the players, enjoy the fun...or enjoy the circus. Hope this edition bring lots of joy just like the ealier ones.

Mayank Agrawal lives upto his reputation of hard hitting batsman.I was shocked the way he took the great Murali.First ball, whack SIX, even Murali seemed like "How dare you". Good to see few fearless brand of youngsters comming through for future.Hope he entertains further. "Here's Murali, after the Powerplay.
6.1 Muralitharan to Agarwal, SIX, and Mayank takes him on! Planting his foot forward and lifting the ball off his pads over deep midwicket, huge hit, and off his first ball against Murali. That is some moment." Long way to go Mayank, never the less a good start Edited by MalhotraRaj84 - 10 April 2011 at 3:57am |

My intention of watching this edn. of IPL is mainly to see some players like Pandey,Uthappa,Undakat,Kamran Khan,Rohit, RP, Ishant, S Tiwary and few other young Indian players come good against foreign players.
ODIs has gone to next level after the world cup. No teams are weak now (forget BAN, they are just happy playing 50 overs) . A strong pool of players is needed.

I am not at all interested in watching the IPL this season, boring for me unless I have nothing else to do but pass my time.
Talking of Manish Pandey, I think this guy is a tremendous talent and will make it big even at the international stage. I cannot say the same about Uthappa though, he is a nothing player. |

My future predictions say , he has a good future post Sachin-Shewag at the top.Now that next world cup is going to happen in Aus-NZ.Indian mgmt will do good in giving Uthappa/Rohit/Pujara chance rather than Y Pathan in team as backup batsman.

well I would not say he is a nothing player, perhaps that was seriously undermining his abilities but so far Uthappa hasn't really impressed me as much and we'll have to see how he goes.
I think this is the right time for Sachin to retire from ODI's and allow younger players to enjoy their time, Rahul too should retire from tests because Kohli is certainly ready to take his place. I think India will not miss Sachin in ODI's, their ODI team looks good even for the long term future but yes in Tests they'll have that trouble time once the 3 big batsmen retire and even Zaheer reaches 34-35 years of age and becomes ineffective, the youngsters should eventually do well but there will be that period of 12-18 months when they will be struggling. |

Rahul and Lax will be missed (esp. steely resolve in tougher moments).Sachin can't be replaced. In future Kohli-Pujara-Rohit can fill atleast 50% of those big boots in tests.Shewag,Gambhir & Dhoni will be there to see the transition phase.
In broader picture Indian batting will lose its mighty tag when those big three leave , but with so many talented batsman comming in , it won't be a huge problem.Concern is on the bowling side... Getting Zak's replacement will be tough.

Zaheer has definitely peaked, that age between 28-32 is when quicks are at their best. Certainly India should be looking at guys to come in and do a similar job. Zaheer has a few years left in him, but he like any fast bowler, his fitness could change that.

Pretty interesting the way the IPL started with a cracker of an opening contest. The other matches weren't that great esp last night's matches. A little disappointed with the way my hometown team KTK lost, don't expect em to win many either.
Like Raj, its the unfolding of the younger players that excite me the most. Mayank Agrawal did impress but no need to jump the gun over there. Was surprised that BA Bhatt dint get to bowl yesterday for punjab. He's a promising talent. Did he get injured or what? Dint watch that game. So far MI and CSK looks like the favourites. RCB and PW also formidable sides. KKR should be a lot stronger with the arrivals of their foreign players. |

Ishant Sharma looked fast zippy and zealous on SAT . Bowling along side Dale Steyn is gonna do him a world of good. Hopefully it the start of his resurgence. Fingers crossed.
Also the Kochi wicket looked a beautiful one. The pace bounce and carry of the wicket looked very enticing for an Indian pitch. Parthiv Patel collected most of the deliveries with fingers pointed skywards. Looks a very promising one. How long will it last could be the argument. |

For me 1. Sahara Pune W 2/3. Chennai SK/Mumbai Indians 4. RC Bangalore.
Delhi is a chancy team, Punjab have lost completely in selection.
RR/ Deccan/ KKR/ Kochi don't seem like troubling the top 4 according to me.
To me final winner either between Pune or Chennai.

Fair enough, but the fact that CSK and MI have retained most of their players gives them a head start.
The thing that disappointed me the most this weekend was that could get to watch Deepak Chahar and Varun Aaron bowl. Lot of hype around these two. |

Haven't you learnt anything from the previous IPL's about making predictions.
None of the teams in the previous three editions have performed according to the bets or the punters, but for CSK. So I'll restrain from making predictions in this one tourney. |

Agreed mate, his personal life just got in the way of it all... Probably would have captained ahead of Stephen Waugh. If you ask me, he should have replaced Waugh as captain then handed the captaincy straight to Clarke upon retirement. Shame that never happened.

Yes it is very difficult to predict , but the only team I have backed all three years consistently to win the trophy was CSK. Mainly due MSD's captaincy and they had a balanced team too. He brings the best in whatever players he has.
In 2008 they just missed in final, in 2009 semi's and 2010 winners
This is what I said about 2010 IPL dated sometime 24th March 2010...
In both 2008 and 2009 I backed CSK and RR in the same order.Have been little lucky with IPL predictions too

'87 - Expected Aussis from start
'92 - SA to start but the moment Pak got into Semis. I knew they will win.
'96 - SL from start due to Sanat and Kalu and esp. they were tough to beat at home.
'99 - Aussies
'03 - Nothing big here , entire world knew no other team stood a chance
Only in '07 - I was pathetically wrong . I predicted that India will win.Got smacked first round

I have doubts over Clarke's captaincy, I don't think he has it in him to lead a team in tougher times. Captain should be someone who should never get intimidated. I think in a year or two Clarke will give away captaincy on his own.
I mean he looks (body language) very soft for a captain , I might be wrong.
SA,IND,ENG,SL and even NZ will try to get under his skin in test matches.
