          Happy new year my name is Stacey {yes I am a man} I am 37 yerars old married with one boy who is 6 .I am a wicketkeeper batsman I live on the birder of Victoria and New South Wales I play cricket in the Sheeparton cricket Association I either play in the a or b grade teams at my Club, I am looking for a uk club to play with either 2012 or 2013 or both I have coaching expiernce and have played cricket at the highest level both in the country and in Melbourne,I have also played rep cricket if I still hold my own in in 1st Xl cricket and still have lots to offer a uk club if you are interested please send me a private email  thanks and great to be am part of a truely world cricket forum

I'm 19 and from the USA where Cricket isn't big at all. I came to the forums because I paralyzed my left deltoid and tricep and am just trying to find out which bats are better, light or heavy. I'm not interested in going pro or anything, just looking for the right bat for a friendly game. I prefer lighter bats around 2.6 because they are so easy for me to swing but I have used a 3lb Amber sports bat and liked the extra power but it wears me out quick. I can always get stronger though. Anyways can somebody please tell the most commonly used weight when it comes the pros. I was gonna get an SS TON like Kumar Sangakkara but I'm not sure if I should get light, heavy, or medium. Also who makes the best bats and balls? From what I've heard most it's Kookaburra.

Hey Max,

There is no right answer to which is better between light or heavy bats - it is what suits you personally that is the better one. There is a trade off too - the heavy bat might impart more power, but with the lighter bat you get more bat speed, which in turn gives power, so using a lighter bat doesn't necessarily mean you can't hit it a long way.

The best thing you can do is go to a cricket retailer if you have one locally and wave a few bats around, you will soon get an idea of what feels best in your hands. If there isn't a shop, do it with all your team mates' bats the next time you get together with them.

For info, most pros use bats around 2'8 or 2'9, but they do get the lightest clefts of willow for those so they still get the huge profiles.

In terms of branding, again there is no such thing as "the best" - there are plenty of very good quality brands out there and all have their fans and their detractors.
