The Modi show is due to start shortly. Modi's burst at Ricky Ponting has prompted me to start this thread, otherwise I am least interested in the tournament itself.
How 'premier' will be the tournament if the current England, Australia and NZL stars decide to sit out? Remember the IPL is already without the world champions of the format. Also, only the retired players seem motivated to cash in for what might be their last appearance at the IPL. I would love to see how the players react to the players' associations reports of the threats being credible enough. |

The one thing I admire about Modi is his don't care attitude about the big names if they don't want to come. It's his show so it goes by his rules. In the West Indies WIPA has a lot of mouth, no union can mouth off Modi.
If you fear for security reason, then don't show up, as simple as that, who wants to take the risk and go, then so let it be, don't ask for tournament to be moved just to suit you. If it was a tournament organized by all the big 8 boards combined, then I could understand you wanting it to shift. It's first and foremost an Indian league so it has all rights to stay in India.

you are right SW. If they shift ipl for security reasons then the next question will be the world cup 2011. This isn't an international tournament so Modi can decide it. I am sure he will never get ipl there where he want it to be.
If Players from Eng, Aus and NZL wont come then we might see last edition of ipl this year. |

Obviously we have so much talent that even if none of the foreign players come , still the cities loyalty will create interest among us.Such is the tournament. Go on Modi

Yes India have so much talent that they are struggling to find a decent fast bowler. Go Modi destroy Indian cricket. Edited by mystery - 26 February 2010 at 4:18am |

I find it funny , when any bowling attack gets hammered by Indian batting , its Indian batting strength, but even if once Indian bowling conceeds runs it is pathetic... funny how people think

Their depth of talent is great but not great enough to stand out in other formats or to stand out individually but 11 of those talented players can make up a very good team and since cricket is a team sport, I guess that should be good enough.
zuhair_abbasi - The reason I watch the IPL is for the retired players who actually are still a head over the rest and know how to play it properly. Tell me one non-retired player who has been consistent in the IPL for more than 1 edition. Plus, I get to see Dravid play in a non-Test format.
This won't be the last edition because I feel the tournament will continue as planned and its pretty popular in India. As long as the top Indian players are in it with a few foreign players, there shouldn't be any problem. The problems will start when the number of teams and games increase by twice as much (expected to happen in the next year). Then it will get boring and annoying and no player will play that long plus retired players will be gone. |

My exams won't enable me to see the matches held prior to the 7th of April but I am raring to get a sight of Haydos, Gilly, Warne, Kemp, Ganguly, Kumble and Dravid( in a non-Test format as DF says).
I am pretty sure these guys will turn up and I just hope KKR wins it this time! Ganguly will be pretty determined I feel and a change in jersey colour might just bring about a change in the fortunes! |

I'll be supporting Bangalore as usual but unlike other tournaments, IPL can never be predicted successfully because its T20 and most teams are more or less equal plus there are a lot of matches to recover from.
By the way, does anyone else also get virus threats from this website? Every time I log on, Norton tells me there are 3 possible threats.

Mate, some programs tell you there is a threat so that you can purchase the product. If it's a valid Norton software, then I can't say but I have ESET and I don't get any warnings.

Nice to see Lankans doing well. Mathews for KKR excelled with both bat and ball. Vaas for DC finding some movement with the new ball. Malinga for MI also bowling well.

Lankans are a damn good T20 side - I haven't found any of the games interesting so far. Yusuf Pathan's ton, though was remarkable - even though it was a depleted bowling unit. the strategy time out now twice in the inning is even more irritating than the 5 minutes time out last year. What's next in the IPL? player's substitution? 2 innings of 10 overs each - in the name of making it more interesting?

I can't take this tournament seriously because some of the local players are so , so poor. Bad bowling and awful batting make poor fare.

I like just one thing about ipl that you can see your retired favourite players in action agian, like Gilchrist, Hayden, Warne, Vaas, Ganguly etc.

Yes he is , but due to some of his antics on and off the feild and straight from the mouth attitude , he dosen't have consensus of supporters inspite of being one of the great in ODI's.
Love him or hate him , thats DADA for you.

I'm only interested in the IPL to see the international guys, as simple as that. I can't watch Rajastan bat if Smith or Yusuf Pathan isn't batting!
Oh, Sehwag was amazing yesterday, definitely one of my favourite all time players!

Some nice knocks from Manish,Uttappa,Saurav Tiwary and Rayadu. To my surprisse IPL-3 still has the same craze over here, and it's even picking up my interest slowly after 1st round. I don't really bother how much interest it creates outside India...but here it does not seem to be any different for first edition.

I'd rename the IPL as the Injury Prone League. Its neither helping the domestic players nor the foreigners. Yes they are earning huge bucks of money but this league is causing far too many injuries for my liking!

The financial might of the IPL was on display again on Sunday when Pune and Kochi became the league's two new franchises, being sold for a value in excess of the original eight franchises combined.
The Sahara group - Pune franchise after offering a staggering US$370m.
Rendezvous Sports World - Kochi bid US$333.33m.
Now that's a big thumbs up to IPL.

I think two groups would have been better and keep number total number of matches under 60 per season ... 90 matches is touch too much.

It would be great if Modi increases the teams but keeps total matches per season under 40 or max 50.

I find it funny when few still act like guardians of True form of cricket.A true cricket fan is the one who likes whatever form of game T20,ODI or Test. "Get a life" to all those who say IPL/T20 is killing the game, I would say same kind of opposition ODI's got in early 70's when it was introduced,Look at it now isn't WC the most important for any cricketers life? Keep hating or opposing IPL /T20, Guys like me and thousands will keep enjoying it.Cheers! |
