when walking to the crease i find i feel very nervous, and will continue to do so untill i have middled the ball or had a lucky escape . i normally get a little breathless too.

im thinking it may have something to do with me not trusting my technique. i scored 21 today, but was still very nervous when i strated, does anyone else have the same thing going on.

yeah im with you on that one. You hear commentators talking about how batsmen arent confident and posotive in their footwork when they first arrive at the crease- this is where pietersen is so good. Anyway I find either facing and surviving a couple of overs or scoring a boundary does the trick.

Ditto, dont know about peterson, not to keen on him. but yea once ive middeld it even in a denecive shot as soon as the sweet spot has been hit then you know your on to something.

theres an old man at the club who a life member, he says i cant play down leg to save my life, he also said i need to learn how to play accross the line. im used to playing with a tape ball in my garden and you cant play across the line there as theres not enough room so ive been drilled into playing straight, with a straight bat and lowish bat lift......

Time is the key for me and the attitude you have if you go out there to just say right don't get out then you will feel nervous If you go out thinking right be positive its amazing the difference.

I think that happens when you are out of form or if there are high expectations on you from your team

I think the vast majority of players will get nervous when they go in to bat. Getting off the mark always helps.

Everyone gets nervous before going out to bat mate, it's not just you. If I didn't have butterflies before batting I don't think I would play the game.

I always got told playing across the line is bad. Easiest way to get out. I always try to play with the straightest bat possible!!!

I'm always nervous until I get off the mark or play my first decent shot and then I find it eases. Got 37 in my last match so must be ok!

positive thinking may just be the key here, i do say to myself, stick around a few overs just dont get out forst few balls, i like to bat between 3, 4, and 5

when you speak of positive thinking, would you mean, self motivtion or self belife in your own ability.

Just keep saying to yourself in your head that you can do it. Play each ball on it's merits and go from there. Dont play and silly shots until you feel comfortable at the crease.

Thats what I always try to do.

Still feel like that no matter how many times I go to the middle in a game though I'm as calm as you like facing even the quickest bowlers in the nets. But I'm crap with a bat in my hand, so it doesn't count.
I swing both ways - but only when I'm bowling!
