Amit Jaggernauth's domestic record looks stunning, why isn't he getting chances? I mean if players like Lionel Baker and Fidel Edwards are getting matches, that after averaging 40 something, I think Jaggernauth and Nikita Miller would be a great options to partner Jerome Taylor.

TKORL, many are wondering the same here in the Caribbean. Some say it's because of his race, because of his country etc. Anyhow, he's a young man, spinners are better in their older age.

Why is his race a problem? There are a number of Indians in the side already. Or do you guys follow a quota system (two guys from trinidad, three from jamaica, one from antigua etc.)?
But you could be right, as even Ravi Rampaul has a better domestic record than Fidel Edwards/Baker, but he doesn't play for some reason. I'm thinking that WI could follow India's template from the 80s, and play 3 spinners - Jaggernauth, Miller, Benn and one quick, and and fast bowling allrounder like Sammy or Bravo. Nope, there is no quota policy but although the way the selectors operate, people can't help but think they have an unhidden one! Ravi Rampaul's case is different. He was impressive in England but didn't do well in SA plus the regional tournament that followed plus he was overweight and that doesn't help as a fast bowler. He has really worked on that and looked fired up in the Stanford 20 for 20 tournament so all he has to do is prove himself in the upcoming regional tournament starting in January, just about 2 weeks away.
Miller and Benn are quite ordinary I must say although they dominate back here. Mohammed looks the more dangerous of the lot as he has the googly to help him out. Jaggernauth has a good action, flights it and have one that straightens so I think if any spinners are to be choosen, it has to be one out of the two. Trinidad has been dominating back here for the last few years (so has Jamaica too) and still much of their players can't make it on the Windies team so that's why people are saying the selectors are bias.

benn does look ordinary, but I've never seen Miller bowl.
Why are they persisting with Devon Smith/Xavier marshall/Chattergoon? I'd rather the Windies team be Gayle Barath Sarwan R. Hinds Chanderpaul Lendl Simmons/Ramdin (wk) Bravo Taylor Jaggernauth Sammy Edwards That'd be a lot stronger than what they've put out lately |

Leave Barath alone. He's 18 and still have many people saying he's not that convincing against guys bowling quick short stuff. Pressure is on a few players so I won't be surprised if some of them pull off a surprise.

I've no problem with some pulling off the odd surprise SW , just as long as they don't win!

Why leave Barath alone? I suppose he's not the finished article yet, but in a year or so...
Not to mention, what's keeping players like Andrew Richardson or Darren Sammy off the Test team? From just a casual observation, these guys have done way more than either Lionell Baker, Powell, or Edwards....Dammit I should manage Windies. Devon Smith/Marshall wouldn't come near a bat if I was manager!!!!!! |

Sammy will have to sit out the test team if Bravo is playing. You could argue a case for him in ODI's though. Never seen Richardson but Edwards is a nasty bowler, surely anyone can see why he's persisted with. Fitness has impacted hugely on his career more than anything. If you continually breakdown, surely your bowling will always take back some time to get back into top gear. Saying that, Edwards impressed all by going a whole series without breaking down.

I don't understand the one for one exchange between Bravo and Sammy. Bravo is a batting allrounder, whereas I think Sammy should be playing as a specialist bowler. Edwards is fast, but it looks like from his stats both first class and domestic show that he's been out of his depth on the test level, and ok on the domestic. His test average is what around 40? I believe Sammy's domestic avg. is quite low, around 24 or so.
Maybe let Edwards play for the one day squad. |

Check the stats, bar Taylor, Edwards has been Windies second best bowler lately. His stats won't show what he did on the last tour because of numerous drop catches off his bowling when he bowled the most hostile off all the bowlers throughout that series and with decent control too.

Edwards has come on a lot - his battle with KP in the test series was
terrific. Hostile , quick and on the money - he gave KP a torrid time.
