Simon Jones has admitted that he very nearly did give up playing cricket altogether after that near career ending injury he suffered against Australia in the last Ashes series. He said he was so disapointed that at one pointed he even contemplated suicide. After a while though he said he felt better about himself and his life but admitted he feared he would never play cricket again. He handed in an formal resignation to Glamorgan Cricket Club but apparently only the grace of refusal in his departure propted him to re-think his plans of life. He eventually did decide to come back to cricket and has since rekindled his England career though even then he did have a spell where he was dropped and left out of the One Day side but he seems to back to his consistant status in the side. He described it as the most difficult time of his life and that he would never wish for anyone to ever go through anything like that. He says he is very grateful to his family and especially his dad who himself was a former cricketer and says that without them he wouldn't have gotten through at all. He says his dream now is just to play cricket and it doesn't matter who its for or where its played and he is just taking it day by day. He says he won't now be drawn into discussions about the long term achievements he wishes to achieve and states that now he will probably never think that way again as the injury he picked up changed his entire way of thinking. He now believes that it is not possible to forsee too much ahead of the present as you just don't know what events will take place between now and then to change the direction of your life. Pretty hard hitting stuff and it certainly gives you something to think about.

He was pretty close to leaving Glamorgan, but the lure of a senior role in the one day team made him change his mind. Hadn't read about the suicide stuff though.

Yeah though i did read it in the back pages of a tabloid paper so you never know the validity. He says he still may move from glamorgan eventually though.

Well, he is a fine reverse swinger and he is young so he can't quit. He is the future of England's bowling.

He is almost 27. So, yea, he isn't that young but he's got atleast 8 years ahead of him and will be the spearhead of England's bowling for that time along with Flintoff.
