Topic: JP’s Cricket Sim: World Cup Posted: 30 January 2006 at 3:42pm |
We're coming to the end of the Test championship, so Sledger came up with the idea of having a one day World Cup tournament between the two seasons. It will basically work in exactly the same way, you name a squad of 18 which will last the whole tournament, I post injuries, you post teams and the games are played.
It's probably best if the Test managers take over their respective ODI teams as firstly, if we start advertising for new managers it'll take ages for it to get going, and secondly, you guys will know your teams like the back of your hands now.
The tournament will be run as the World Cup will be. I'm not exactly sure what to do with the pitches though, make them all normal to guarantee fair games, or make them random?
Anyway, the teams involved and where applicable, managers:
Australia (Ramzi)
Sri Lanka (Warnester)
New Zealand (Titan)
Pakistan (black_cap_95)
South Africa (the bird)
India (w3lshrugby)
England (Sledger)
West Indies (ANIL KUMBLE)
Scotland (Clobber)
Bangladesh (available)
Kenya (available)
Zimbabwe (available)
Holland, Bermuda, Canada, Ireland (all available)
Let's get some people's views on pitches, and then taking over free teams and maybe we can get it running next week.

That's what my inclination would be. Fancy taking a team Clobber? Your beloved Scotland are managerless.

Let's have people sticking with their Test teams for now please. If you want the Pakistan job, we'll do applications after/during the World Cup. It just makes things a bit easier for me that way.
Black_Cap you're welcome to take the Pakistanis to the World Cup, unless Saad wants to do it.

Venue JP ?? Maybe it should be in the West Indies ?
As for pitches , random is good - more chance of an upset (Aus vs Bang all over again!!) and harder to pick the best side.

Yup, venue is the West Indies, and random pitches - that way a premium is placed on team selection to cover all eventualities - none of this super-sub cop out rubbish.

OK black_cap, you can take Pakistan.
Warnester, I think you meant for the Tests, right? Anyway, I've posted them in the other thread.

Well, first of all, best of luck with Pakistan.
Second, you might want to put the first 11 that will be playing in batting order unless you want Inzamam to open with Wasim.

Warnester - you've picked Mubarak twice, and which Fernando do you mean? It's the most common name in Sri Lanka, that could be anyone! (I presume you also mean Nuwan Zoysa and not RSS de Zoysa, the under-19 captain too.)
ANIL KUMBLE: You're still getting confused with your Smiths - D.W doesn't exist, can you type out 'Dwayne' and 'Devon', that will make it easier for everyone.

I see you already have started the World Cup sim, can we then maybe look at the option of choosing 5 legends(players playing ODI's for their country in the past) in a group of 18.We determine their stats as at the end of their careers.
For Example Ramzi can not select D.Bradman because he has not played ODI's but he can choose Dean Jones or Mark Waugh.
Otherwise it will be a toss up between RSA and Australia once again, it could be really fun to see how Viv Richards or Graham Gooch have done against todays players.

But it would put those sides that haven't got a history of playing
ODI's or top class international cricket in general at an even greater
disadvantage than they already are.

It's up to the managers to decide, but if we want to get underway on Monday we'll have to make a quick decision.
So far, it's 1 for (Titan), 1 against (Clobber)
