Indifferent weather has allowed just 111 overs in the first two days at Headingley.

Solid batting by Lancashire , after being out in though , scoring 417-9 by the close yesterday. Tons by Loye and Law and 3 wickets for Bresnan the pick of the players.

If the weather improves, there's still a great chance of a red rose victory!!

No they probably wont, only truly brilliant teams (Worcestershire) can beat Leicestershire.

That result was crucial for Yorkshire , but Lancashire are well placed to progress. Derbyshire losing to the jocks helped!

Roses game was a great one, enjoyed watching the highlights. Great effort from both sides, it's games like that where it's a shame someone has to lose.

A win inside two days , beating the championship leaders - brilliant!!

Sajid Mahmood and Glen Chappell did the damage , the former getting his 1st 5 wicket haul of the year. Chappell took 7 wickets in the match , as the lads rolled over those wimps from Sussex by a massive 9 wickets!!

So Sussex's dismal record at Aigburth continues - it could be the lads' season!!

fantastic performance, mahmood is a good player to have as he is on the verge of the international team so when he is not picked he is ahigh quality county star and to beat sussex in two days is just a top result

well done especially to chapple n saj

Should be a good game today

Warwickshire v Lancashire
County Championship D1, Edgbaston: Warwickshire v Lancashire
Match starts 1100 BST Wednesday

Warwickshire are forced to make two changes to the side which beat Durham last week for Wednesday's Championship game against Lancashire at Edgbaston.

Ian Bell and Alex Loudon are both on England one-day duty, so Ian Westwood and Moeen Ali come in.

Glen Chapple and Sajid Mahmood are also away with England, so Lancashire's bowling attack has a youthful look.

Oliver Newby, Kyle Hogg, Steven Croft and leg-spinner Simon Marshall are all named in a 13-man squad.

Fine return from Dominic Cork what with Chappell and Mahmood away on international duty. 6-53 off 25 overs helped to restrict Warwickshire to 173 all out.

It started badly , with Nick Knight being bowled by Cork for a 3rd ball duck - his 10th straight championship knock without a 50. At one stage the homeside were 92-7 but Tony Frost (63) and Heath Streak (29) took their score to a somewhat respectable total under cloudy skies.

Some daylight for Warwickshire though , Mark Chilton was bowled leaving Lancashire 7-1 when bad light stopped play.

With Hampshire and Sussex not playing this week , a win will leave the Northerners at the top of Division 1.

Great chance for the lads fellas !!

shame for chapple though missing out on the one day games through injury

So Keedy spun Lancashire to a well deserved victory over a spirited Warwickshire side and took top place in Division 1 !

It's pre-WW II since Lancs won the title on their own - maybe 2006 is going to be their year!

Of course , a summer of good weather in Manchester would help a lot!

Dominic Cork is really on fire since Sajid Mahmood and Glen Chappell were called away for international duty. Following on from his match winning 6-53 against Warwickshire last week , he took 4 wickets against Middlesex yesterday. Middlesex were dismissed for 161 and followed on after Lancashire had posted an imposing 505.
Second time around Middlesex were 47-1 at the close.

With Hampshire getting belted by Durham this is a great chance to open a bit of a gap at the top. Sussex are doing well too though , so it's going to be tight.

What Lancs mustn't forget is the last time they were in this position at this time of year they ended up in division 2 !!

Terrific comeback by Freddie , albeit in a twenty-20 match!!

3-0-4-3 and a quickfire 10 (1*4 1*6!) helped demolish Notts yesterday. He says he enjoyed it - let's hope he's okay for the 2nd test .

Great win for Lancashire at Trent Bridge on Saturday. The 5 wicket win over Notts, inspired by an unbeaten ton by Iain Sutcliffe put them top of the league!

Better news was the failure of Sussex when chasing 270 against Warwickshire, losing by 13 runs! It's a real bogey ground for the southerners , one win in 45 years!!!

All eyes on the match at Hove , starting Wednesday , Sussex against Lancs!!

The lads are top by a single point , but have played a match less , terrific position to be in. If Sussex lose , they can kiss goodbye to any championship hopes....

Yeah Lancashire! I want them to win the championship now as Hampshire have a near enough impossible task of winning it. I'd rather Lancashire win it than our arch-rivals Sussex.

In the clash of the Titans on the 1st afternoon , Sussex are 112-3 after 42.1 overs. Dominic Cork knocked over both openers superfast , leaving the homeside on 7-2!

The inform Yardy led the recovery and is still there on 50* . Goodwin perished to young Tom Smith for a spirited 40 and captain Chris Adams is there with Yardy now.

Lancashire will be pretty happy with this start and will be looking for another couple before tea.
