When both of these players are in form, I would pay to see Lara. He is the master at making big scores and scores at a healthy rate. Thats what I like to see at a cricket match!

I would have to say Sachin the little master.  He has 35 test centuries and 39 ODI centuries compared to Brian's 30 or 31 to 19.

When Tendulkar is in form no one can match him.

Injuries have killed Tendulkar and have caused him to have to dig himself out of bad form holes, its a real shame

I think what helps Sachin is that he doesn't give the bowlers as much a chance as Lara also he has a better team by his side whereas Lara's the only real distinguised batsmen in his team

Yeh i agree. They are both quality players and its really hard to compare and contratst them as they are both equally as good when they are in form.

maybe u didn't watch cricket abt a decade ago. in india if sachin was out the whole team was gone. we didn't have good players except a few. i agree that lara had to spent more time with a bad team than sachin but sachin also had good players alongside him at the start of 2003. so both players had similar atmosphere to play and both have similar records so its difficult to pick the better player

I agree with you. Sachin has centuries record and on the other hand Lara has the highest score.

Sachin wrote that Tendulkar plays for the team and lara for records ,i would say the same for sachin as well because in my opinion if you play for records your team gets a score so that is not a fitting reply for me

If you get record for your team, that doesn't mean you help win the match. It means you did something for yourself.

You also help win the match aswell. If you've got that sort of attitude, and you succeed then you're going to be winning a lot more matches for your side. It may be selfish, but you're doing two things, one for yourself, the other for your side.

Anyways, it has to be Sachin Tendulkar for me.
"His classical hits down the ground, met with a checked drive, were Tendulkar at his best. It was though he had a new lease of life." - Sachin Tendulkar's return to cricket with a 91-Ball century.

Batting IS selfish!!! Ultimately ALL batsmen look to their average , the higher the number , the safer their position in the side.

Where selfishness is destructive is when a batsman deliberately disobeys a team order and ruins a chance for a win. Sir Geoffrey did that against India in 1967 when he scored 246* (his highest ever score) and was dropped for the next test for scoring too slowly.

So cut the crap fellas , batting is a lonely art and all batsmen want to bat as long as possible.
Mental disintegration works for me !!

I would say Ganguly was that kind of batsmen too. He had too many complaints over stuff and disobeyed many thing, I think thats why Chappel didn't like him.

Lara is pure genius...tendulker is a run machine..but it comes down to how important these runs are for your country...it has to be said many of lara's many brilliant hundreds have single handedly won the windies their games..yet sachins hundreds have mostly been in a lost cause!

well u can't expect sachin to stay till the end after he has hit a century. he was an opener and after the 100 i don't think he can play much. its upto the middle order to finis off the game and that they weren't able to do. so its not sachin's fault. in his inns of 144 against aussies in sharjah also the middle order didn't perform and india lost so its not his fault.

on the other hand lara comes at 3 or 4 position so he can be there till the end as he won't get that tired. u might feel that i m biased but your pt. is not a very good pt. as an arguement. one player alone cannot do everything. he needs support from other team members

sorry guys i don't have pc in my hostel so i can't use the net very often.

well sachin has hit 39 odi centuries and no one can come near it.

i don't want to compare both these great players but some of them r giving arguemets which aren't holding any solid reasons. so i m givin the facts. both r best in their own business

jumbo you never know..ponting is going great guns and i think lara's feats are far more difficult to achieve, he has score..100's, 200's, 300' 400', 500! no one can argue with that! Lara has far more natural talent than sachin..but sachin has been far more consistent over time..but not a genuine match winner like lara!

but tha fact is...they have been wonderful for cricket lovers all over the world..in my opinion the five cricketers who have changed the modern game and gave it an enormous following have been, Lara, Sachin, Warne, Wasim and gilchrist!

Exactly, they're both good and have immense talent. It's hard to say who's better and it's not fair to say that either of them are better than the other. Both of them have done amazing things for their countries.
