hi, i was thinking of getting a laver and wood "carbo" cricket bat. i was wondering if anybody had this bat, and if so what is it like? what weight did you get, whats the pick up, power etc? - i am looking for a bat with awesome power, that is fairly light and has an amazing pick up. i'm a fairly attacking player who also plays defensively at times - i guess you could say that i am pretty balanced. i enjoy lifting the ball over fielders, but i get out to catches more often than i like. also, is it worth getting the carbo in a higher grade of willow? but most importantly, is it a good bat and are you happy with it? please post some pictures as well, if possible!!! thanks a lot!

Ive got a private bin and a carbo, although the carbo is heritage willow but the carbo handle and stickers, i got it in a weight of 2lb 10 and its a massive bat, the pick up is very good and the carbo handle makes the bat feel compact and very powerful. i used my carbo for only the second time yesterday in a 20/20, i scored 106 with it before being bowled in the 17.4th over, i couldn't believe the power! All L&W are top bats, in my opinion they are the best available so in my opinion don't hesitate to get one!

go for the laver as the deal they offering is brilliant atm, also if you get a l&w it will be made completely for you and your game, so completely custom, where as the bradbury i think is like a stock shape is it?

Do you have to pay import tax if you buy a L&W from Aus?

nope, unless you are very unlikely and your bat happens to be put in customs then there is a small fee required for it to be released, but that is done rarely by the parcel people or whatever.

now i am wondering whether i should go for the laverwood private bin or heritage...

i am only looking to get 1 bat, and i play 20, 30, 35 and 50 over games. i was wondering if the private bin/heritage has a lot of power, and what shape is it (straight blade, bowed, special {for more on special blades, check out the middlepeg website, under "laver and wood bats"} ), is the pick up of the private bin/heritage really good?

i am slighlty reluctant to get the carbo as it has a large bow, and as i am still improving my technique (i am 15) i dont think it will be the best idea. is it harder to hit balls along the ground with the carbo?

failing all of that, are there any other bats you can recommend? bradbury etc, that can be used in all sorts of games?

just to inform you mate, l&w have no stock shapes, so basically every bat no matter what, carbo, heritage, private bin, signature are completely custom made. the shapes on the middlepeg website are there just to give you an idea of what sort of shapes can be made for you, signature willow is basically grade 1++, private bin is grade 1+, heritage grade 1, nd carbo grade 2 willow and obviously the carbo has a carbo handle! all l&w bats pick up liek a dream and are made to the highest possible standard, you certainly get what you pay for aswell and theres no other bats out there that match them in my opinion.

I'm in the same situation as you, Dwee, and am contemplating buying a Laver & Wood Carbo, possibly in Heritage, but it is pricey (£165). I am also the same age (15) and seem to be playing a similar level of cricket. I am uncomfortable with the idea of buying a bat without having picked it up of felt it in my hands as i have always done in the past, and also with the fact that L&W are situated in NewZealand, so p&p could be costly, especially if i am not happy with my purchase and have to return it. What should i do people?

Pogo the £165 includes P&P to you. You should check what their policy is regarding payment of return costs should you wish to do so.

If you were a bit worried about the bat then they can send you numerous pictures of your bat oncemade, to check if you like it etc, before it is sent out, the 165 includes postage and a bat cover, all l&w bats come with a years guarantee aswell.i can certainly see your point about not being able to feel the bat but the pick ups on l&w bats are quality. If you get one you won't be dissapointed

I have a L&W carbo bat.  It is supposedly Grade 2 but the grains are absolutely straight (8 grains).  The wood has a little know high up on the bat and that is what I guess classifies it as a grade 2.  Nice punch, great balance, I would recommend the bat to anyone.  As far as the Carbo handle, I like the stiffness of it.  I does seem more powerful.  I actually requested the Carbo handle even on the Private Bin I ahve.  The bat is curved, but you can get it in any shape & profile you want.

These bats sound brilliant, whats the catch. If there isn't a catch then I'll definitely get one for my next bat.

Relatively speaking it's not bad at all, but do you realise how many beers I could get for that amount?!
