Did I say 3? Make that 4 - 153 for 6 now and Lancs lose their way

Championship cricket returns to Grace Road tomorrow as we hope to continue the harsh integration of the Surrey Fancy Dans to life in Division Two.

Mohammed Asif is likely to form a new ball partnership with Leicestershire’s exciting young England A star Stuart Broad in their opening Championship match.

Senior Coach Tim Boon is likely to have Leicestershire’s two leading runscorers from last season, Hylton Ackerman and Darren Robinson available following their recovery from injury problems.

Ackerman suffered a groin problem in the C&G Trophy match against Lancashire at Old Trafford while Robinson missed that game with a bruised ankle sustained while batting in a practice session.

Squad: DDJ Robinson, DL Maddy, JK Maunders, D Mongia, HD Ackerman, JL Sadler, JN Snape (Capt), PA Nixon (Wkt), CW Henderson, DD Masters, SJ Broad, Mohammad Asif.

Surrey are without seam bowlers Mohammad Akram and Martin Bicknell who are both nursing groin injuries.

Squad: SA Newman, JN Batty (wkt), MR Ramprakash, MA Butcher (capt), R Clarke, AD Brown, A Mahmood, IDK Salisbury, TJ Murtagh, J Ormond, ND Doshi, JGE Benning

I presume Robinson will come back in not having played against Lancs on Sunday, meaning the final spot is most likely between Maunders and Sadler, although if the wicket is on the green side there could always be the temptation to omit Henderson instead.

Assuming work isn't too busy in the morning and the weather is set fair I'll probably pop up to Leicester to catch the opening session to get back in the swing of things.

Having lost the toss and given Surrey the first use of the wicket, Leicestershire took the field and were immediately given a sore reminder of last season as for the second year in a row the first ball went dispatched for four. On that occasion Mike Hussey went on to make 275, but thankfully Scott Newman is not in his class and was soon doing what he does best - waving airily at one to give Darren Maddy a sharp gully catch off an impressive David Masters.

At the other end Mo Asif went wicketless but put plenty into his spell and the huge roars of disappointment he gave off whenever a near miss occured - not least when an eminently catchable edge from Jon Batty bisected a static keeper and 1st slip - suggested he is here to give his all.

Batty, on 9 at the time, made Leics pay by going on to 50 before dragging one on from a slightly patchy Stuart Broad. The youngster's morning would have been further brightened had Ackerman held an admittedly difficult chance at 2nd slip off Ramprakash from the final ball of the session.

Sadly work beckoned for me at this point but Surrey are currently 107 for 2.

Another wicket would come in handy any time soon chaps - Surrey 175 for 2, Maunders and Maddy doing the bowling. It will be interesting to see if Snape brings himself on at any point.

Fancy dans closed on 320 for 4, Ramprakash out for 113, Butcher on 75*.

2 wickets for Broad, and 1 each to Masters & Maddy

Early wickets this morning for Broad (Butcher, bowled for 77) Asif (his first - Mahmood). Apparen'tly the pitch is misbehaving which won't make Surrey to concerned considering they have runs on the board already.

Another wicket for Asif, and it sounds like the wicket is a nightmare this morning. Hope it settles down in time for our bat.

The Surrey collapse is complete as they are all out for 370, with Stuart Broad finishing up with 5 for 94, his first 5 wicket haul in first class cricket

Well the wicket might be playing awkwardly at the moment but Leics aren't helping themselves and have slumped to 78 for 4 - Robinson, Maddy, Mongia and Ackerman the casualties.

Essex away today in the championship. Stuart Broad has been pulled from the side to go and represent England A against Sri Lanka so here's hoping he does well. Ryan Cummins is the most likely to benefit, having bowled well against Warks at the weekend.

Leics have won the toss and are batting - let's hope it is the usual Chelmsford first innings pitch, then even our batsman might rack a few up

Nice partnership currently worth 136 between Ackerman (100* - our first centurian of the season and Mongia (61* - for once not content with a pretty 20) sees Leics at 233 for 2

Decent first day sees Leics closing at 392 for 5 with Mongia having played superbly to end on 158*. Hopefully he can carry on in the morning with support from Nixon to see us to a big score.

Quite a slump this morning, collapsing to 417 all out with Tony Palladino taking all 5 wickets this morning.

I am hoping this means the pitch has turned into a nightmare overnight! (Tim Boon did say yesterday there was something in the pitch for the bowlers anyway)

It seems so you need 58 in this second innings by my calculations and are as I am typing 16-1 off 4.4 overs.

Looking good Clobbs but not quite as good as this.

County Sim on extended break until I've got less work and more free time. When I have a specific date, I'll post it in the thread.
