The sycophant from Sky interviewing him managed to avoid the subject naturally enough

He is solid for us but hasn't ever looked like picking up a hatful of wickets, and was even dropped for the T20 final (which was a big mistake admittedly). We enjoy watching him bat though

He's done alright actually a couple of times but he's not what you would call scientific in his approach!

Clobs , i've just read about Darren Maddy's exploits in twenty20 - pretty impressive matey!!

1111 runs in 35 matches @ 35.83 off 802 balls - that's a strikerate of 138.52 !!

Just 3 tests and 8 one dayers though in the late 90's - seems such a pity.

What's his chances of making SA for the twenty20 WC next year?

When you add in his handy bowling and excellent fielding he is a complete T20 player.

There is obviously a strong argument for T20 specialists like Maddy, Snape and Doshi going to the inaugural WC but in all likelihood the selectors will go in with whatever happens to be their preferred ODI side by then

It's possible that after the (proper) WC a few of the current squad will retire from ODI's as well so by the end of next summer the ODI squad could have a radically different look to it. Which might not be a bad thing I guess.

A superb championship victory over Worcestershire today. With rain having wrecked the first three days a contrived finish was agreed with us needing 356 in 88 overs. After a steady start Darren Maddy gave the innings impetus support by John Sadler, both men departing in the 80's leaving Paul Nixon and Claude Henderson to up the tempo further enabling Stuart Broad to strike the winning runs with just 8 balls left.

Congratulations to HD Ackerman who went past 10,000 first class career runs during the course of his unbeaten 188 at Northants today as Leics finished on a useful 383 for 4

I'm chuffed for HD Clobs , what a fantastic season he's had! Did I mention that I met him here in a local radio broadcasting studio (I did Premiership Soccer in those days!) and beat him in a beer drinking competition!

Nice fella too , good sense of humour , has HD!

So you are an international broadcasting star as well?

I think we need to hear more about this, and we certainly need to hear more about the beer drinking contest!

Monty took 2 wickets the last time I saw in that match. He took like 2-117. Pretty poor really. But HD is in a fine vain of form.

Hardly international mate! I did the football spot on Saturday mornings for Cape Talk (talkshow broadcasting to the Western Cape) , I was on about 30 minutes in total usually. A lot of fun and even mildly interesting to English football fans!

The beer drinking competition was a four cornered event in the studio at 9am. HD , Robbie Fleck , Robbie Kempson (Springbok centre and prop respectively) and myself. Each had a pint bottle of Castle Lager and the local DJ did a live commentary as we downed the beer.

It was a mighty close run thing , but Kempson beat me by a whisker , Fleckie was third and poor HD a long way back in fourth!!

I still thought Kemps cheated , but at 18 and a half stone , I wasn't going to push the issue!!

Paul Nixon also reverse swept him right out of the ground

More congratulations, this time for Paul Nixon who is continuing a remarkable personal season this time by attaining his highest ever score, going in at lunch 144 not out. 515 for 8 at lunch, with Ackerman gone for 216.

A rather crackpot finish to our County Championshop season today at Grace road.

After Essex had racked up 486 in their first innings we struggled briefly until an unbroken partnership of 243 between John Sadler (making his first Championship hundred in 3 years), and Jim Allenby (becoming only the 5th Leicestershire player in history to make a century on his Championship debut) and a lot of time lost to the weather made a draw inevitable.

Or so it appeared until the captains decided to make a game of it....

After Leics declared 114 behind on first innings we then opened the bowling with Paul Nixon (he's the wicket keeper) and Darren Robinson (opening bat) whereupon Essex rattled up to 186 for 0 off 9.4 overs!

Mark Pettini made 114 not out off 29 balls (which will never be recognised as any kind of record) whilst Robbo had the magnificent figures of 4.4-0-117-0!

What this farcical passage achieved was setting Leics a target of 301 in a minimum of 65 overs with that man Allenby again taking centre stage with a thrilling performance smacking 68 not out off 49 balls to see Leics home in fine style, sealing fourth place in D2 with a 4th win in the last 6 games.

Basically they fed the batsman runs so they could declare and then get back on with a proper run chase. It used to happen a lot but thankfully isn't so prevelant these days.

bet the bowlers thought a lot of it...

I've got to ask though, how quick were Nixon & Robinson bowling, and how big was the ground ?

I am sure the guys were just lobbing it up so they could smack it - it's isn't known as joke bowling for nothing. Grace Road is quite a large playing surface but I have no idea where the ropes were in this instance.

Darren Maddy could join either Warwickshire or Sussex next season even though Leicestershire have offered him a new contract.

Maddy, who has been an allrounder at Grace Road for the last 13 years, is believed to favour a move to Warwickshire, although Sussex are hoping to lure him on the back of their Championship success. The Sussex manager, Mark Robinson, says he will not enter into a bidding war, despite believing Maddy's addition would bolster his squad.

"I have a budget to work to," Robinson told the Brighton Argus, "and we will not get involved in an auction."

Don't go Dazza :(

Although from what I hear, the chances of him staying are not great right now.
