Does anybody know why Matthew Hoggard doesn't tend to get into the England ODI side very often? Do you think he should be selected for the ODI side more often?
I personally think that England could do with somebody like Hoggard in the ODI bowling attack along with Anderson or Lewis, he is experienced at test level and is a good fast bowler in the 5-day game, and he should be picked for the side more often at ODI level. He may have been expensive and not picked up many wickets in his last few one-day internationals, but why kick him out of the side purely for that, he isn't retired from one-day cricket so why aren't England using him on a regular basis in the 50-over game.

I get where you're coming from about the experience, but who wants an expensive, non-wicket taking bowler in any side, let alone ODI? You wouldn't get in the Hit and Giggles side with that record! Edited by fishcake14 - 21 February 2007 at 2:26pm |

he is too easy to line up and attack in the short form of the game, probably as a result of him not having the same level of control with the white ball as he does with the red one. His numbers are bad, and if you take out Zimbabwe they are basically not good enough.

Gets smashed around an awful lot whenever I have seen him in ODI's like against India last April. Swing bowlers tend to not be quite as good at ODI's like Nel and Hoggard and even Vaas isn't that good.

As a swing bowler you really have to bowl all 10 overs at the start or your going to get spanked later when the ball isn't moving.

It's interesting that his economy rate is only 4.2 in domestic cricket though if he always gets smashed around the park in ODI's, maybe he just needs time to get into the ODI team.

Vaas has an outstanding ODI record so substitute him for Stuart Clark and the point stands |
