Topic: Mike Husseys belated Test call upPosted: 02 November 2005 at 12:04am |

Just thought I'd make a new post on Mike Hussey being about to receive his first Test cap due to the unfortunate injury to Langer as there a couple of statistical things worth noting. 1) He has scored more runs than any other Australian without getting a Test call up, namely 15,313 First class runs at 52.80! 2) Langer has played 53 games consecutively, all of them opening with Hayden which also set a new record. |

mike hussey has an impressive ODI average of 123 but that's because he has 8 not outs and has only played 18 innings.
he is already 30 and that is not too good. even if he does make an impressive debut match and series, he will not have a lot of time to play. Edited by saadadvanced7 |

I loved Langer's take on the situation: "I wish him the best of luck for this one match" He'll have to do something pretty spectacular to keep his place. |

got that right sledger, hussey is a fine player, but i don't understand why he wasn't called up before when he's so impressive.
anyway, good luck to hussey on his test debut. |

No call up before simply because the Langer/Hayden partnership was so successful and the middle order picked itself too. He'd have walked into any other side in the world in the last few years.

well, that makes a lot of sense (not being sarcastic). if he walked into the australian batting line up, it'd be like breaking a finished puzzle.

If you think he did well in the tests he is doing equally as well now against New Zealand in the one-day matches For some reason Australia have him as a lower order batsman |

Welocme to the forum mstr ! I think they're looking to find a finisher in the Michael Bevan mould and it could be right up his street! He's probably got more big shots than Bevan had , but he also can manufacture shots to keep rotating the strike - he's a clever cricketer. |

His huge bunch of not outs certainly give him a boost in his average.

Mike Hussey is pretty impressive....
but I think it was very sorrowful for him to be such a good player and being called to play so late in his career.....I think that he should have been given a chance to play in the international team a long time ago.....seeing he has such abliity. But I guess now since the selectors have seen his talent they will make him a member of the team for good! That will definately be great for him and Australian cricket!

I agree that he should have been chosen much, much earlier. He is so talented. He performs consistently and is chosen when he is 30. But I'm sure that he will be a permanent selection and will benefit himself and Australia.

Yes,Hussey is infact agreat one day player. But we can't expect him to play equally well in Tests. Also he is already 30 and Aussies infact need young guns after this fine team.So younger players should be prefferd

Considering he has got three triple centuries at first class level I'd suggest he is equally adept at playing the longer form |

Suprised? I think its impossible to score an ODI century for Hussey. He bats at No.7 and a batting team only gets to face 50 overs. With players like Glichrist,Katich, Pointing, Martyn, Symonds and Clarke, they take up all the overs. Hussey hardly gets a chance to face so many balls. |

I think the indians could use this ploy first allow a batsman to score 10,000 first class runs then bring in him i mean bring him in
