Which batsman is most pleasing on the eye? Not in terms of physical attractiveness but in terms of stroke play, movement at the crease, poise, bat lift, timing etc. Again, not the best, most efficient batsman, just the one whom you most enjoy watching.

I don't know how pleasing he was but I was always ready to watch Matthew Hayden bat be it for the entire day, Just loved his power hitting and his intimidating presence at the crease.
Among the current lot I like watching Tamim Iqbal bat, find him to be stylish in his own way.

Interesting list Raj. I think Bell is far more pleasing on the eye than Strauss for ENG, Tendulkar/Laxman are more pleasing than Dravid for IND and Tamim more than Ashraful for BAN.
Hayden charging down the wicket at quicks was fun to watch sam but never really considered him as pleasing. 100% agree about Tamim though, he is uniquely stylish. |

If it is about the current lot, I would say Amla and if I consider my all time favorite, it has to be Mark Waugh

Plenty of fine players around , Amla , Bell , de Villiers , Darren Bravo. But I have to say that Barry Richards and David Gower were two I'd vacate the bar to watch. Eevn batting out maidens they looked wonderful!
For sheer excitement though , Gary Sobers , Graeme Pollock , Viv Richards and Ian Botham got the old adrenalin coursing through my veins! |

Barry Richards and Pollock? Blimey Sledge, you've certainly been watching cricket for a very LONG time.
Amla's strokeplay is extremely fluid and effortless but the thing that slightly detracts from the aesthetics of his batting is the trigger movement. It isn't as pronounced as a Chanderpaul, for example, but it still makes a little bit less visually appealing for me. Having said that, he is still amongst the most pleasing modern day batsmen. Jayawardene has always been someone I have enjoyed watching. He has a diverse array of shots and looks classical and stylish playing each one, even the lofted shots. There is something that makes him stand out; I can't quite put my finger on it. For me, Sachin is just perfect at the crease. Forget his records, accomplishments and feats. He just looks like he was born to bat. Economy of movement, perfect body positions, amazing sense of timing. He is compact with absolutely no flaw in his technique. |

I think Amla has to be the most fluent batsman playing right now, he just bats with so much ease. De Villers is dangerous but all of SA's game lately, i've been more eager just to see Amla more than anyone.

Tendulkar's technique is almost too perfect , practically statuesque when the bowler's in the delivery stride. There's so little that can go wrong , which is probably why he's the greatest batsman of his generation. Barry Richards was very similar , but as an opening bat and against some of the finest fast bowlers the game has ever produced , just gets the nod from me.
All class players just pick up the ball's path so quickly and then with a minimum of fuss move into position and play the correct shot - batting's easy ! Edited by Sledger - 29 November 2011 at 5:17am |

To show how long you've been around, I don't think you hear the word smite much unless you are reading the bible.
