Hiya guys,
i have a big problem with throwing everytime i throw the ball at a wicket the ball doesn't go where i intend to it sometimes goes in the opp. direction. I take a side on stance as gatting advised me to do but as i throw at the target my body seems to move a bit slightly. What is the proper method to throw? |

Its pretty hard to fully explain the 'correct' technique, but you can go far wrong if you have your non-throwing arm pointed where you want the ball to go, and your front foot also pointed towards where you want to throw.
Remember, throwing at the stumps is a learned skill, you have to practise it heaps, even once you are very good at it. |

If you're quite close to the wicket when you're trying to throw it down, try bringing the arm through vertically. If you throw the ball naturally, round arm, you have to release the ball at exactly the right slpit second to be accurate as the line your arm is travelling in goes across the line of the stumps.
If you bring the arm through in a straight line, over vertically, a bit like bowling, then even if you are a split second late or early releasing the ball the line will still be right. The ball will hopefully hit the stumps then but if not it will bounce in front (and perhaps strike on the bounce) or go just over them to the man (hopefully) backing up. Either way, the line will be on the stumps rather than wild.
This technique though isn't as powerful as a normal throw, but I find it more accurate and faster than an underarm throw for a direct hit from square leg or the covers.

To be honest, I've never really considerd it. I use my strong flat throw with a natural action from the deep, I use that vertical arm technique at shorter range when I'm trying to get a direct hit (and often succeeding). I doubt it will work well over longer ranges because you can't get nearly as much power into it. |

Also, try and throw with your whole body rather than just your arm, ie twist at the hips a bit like a golf swing
