Hi I always wondered...read that swing is usally generated when the ball has different weights on both sides i.e. keeping one side shiny and one side rough. But, i always wondered what makes a NEW BALL swing? How should a new ball used and why is it so crucial that a pace bowler bowls with the new ball? Please help me understand this....thanks

The new ball is hard and shiiny so it comes on at a very good pace that a fast bowler enjoys to shake up the batters. I really don't know what makes the new ball swing as I am not into this science c**p with it but keeping a straight seam can make it swing in the air.

A basic, basic run down is its to do with seam angle (which way its pointing slightly), your bowling action and conditions. No doubt there is an article on wikipedia
