Hi there
I have a new unused Newbery Mjolnir that has been kept in its sleeve in a cupboard for about 5 years. It had a good coat of oil when I bought it, as I was injured at the time and knew it would have at least one year in the cupboard. However, a combination of work, moving and general laziness has meant that I'm only venturing back onto the field now, about 5 or 6 years later... Is there anything I need to do to the bat to make sure it doesn't split, or anything like that? It seems to be in good nick, not too dry or brittle. I guess the only test is to get in the nets and have a swing. I suppose a good rub down and a fresh coat of linseed is the order of the day. Does that sound about right? Cheers! Austen

I would oil it, just a light coating, and then treat it very careful in the nets against old balls only, and see if it marks up. Depending in the temperature of where it has been stored, it is possible the willow might have dried out a little, which will shorten its life somewhat.

Thanks Clobber. It's not the end of the world if it has dried out and is a bit of a plank. I should've sold it and got some money back a few years back when I knew I wasn't going to be playing any time soon. But I stubbornly kept hold of it!
Cheers for now Austen
