Topic: New Zealand in India - 2010 Posted: 03 November 2010 at 6:27pm |
The kiwis have been humbled by Bangladesh and they come to India under tremendous pressure to perform, How on earth are they going to that remains to be seen given India's form, their solid batting line up, the home conditions and a relatively weak NZL attack. NZL though is a team that can surprise you and some Indian players like Harbhajan have already said that underestimating them will be a big mistake. Sachin can become the first player to score 50 centuries if he gets one this series. List of Fixtures: Thu Nov 4 - Mon Nov 8

I expect the kiwis to be clean sweeped in all formats!!
A win toss by India tonight can see me being a tired man tomorrow at work - doesn't seem to be bowlers there that can really trouble Sehwag. Let's see how it goes!

India did win the toss and , no surprise , are batting. Gambhir has gone and they're 73-1 in the 17th over. Most disconcerting for NZ is Sehwag's still there on 46 at a run a ball - it could be a long hot day for the tourists....

127-1 at lunch with Sehwag unbeaten on 87 off just 84 balls - it looked like a ton in the session but Dravid put paid to that with some typical stonewalling - he's still there on 12 off 57 - some contrast! Very much running to form with the home side continuing where they left off against Australia and NZ showing how they lost 3-0 to Bangladesh.

Wasn't it 4-0? But yes, NZL is certainly no match to the Indians especially away from home.

Business as usual. India 200 for 1 in 50 overs. Sehwag on his usual first innings blast. Dravid his usual self. Boring.

Dravid's looked really good after scoring 17 of his first 105 balls! Looks set for a big score does India! That man Sehwag continues to dazzle. What an entertainer! Butter fingers have not helped the Kiwi cause and their bowling certainly lacks penetration!

Sehwag gives it away when on 173 , India 298-2 ! Tendulkar joins Dravid , who's closing in on his ton - New Zealand's attack resembles a 120 year old man , toothless !

Why go that far Sledge? A new born baby would do it too. their fielding reminded me of Pakistan today. But the test so far has gone the predictable way.

As predicted, Vettori was going to be the only one to cause Sehwag to worry a bit, he looked too much at ease against the rest and got really stuck into Patel. Sehwag is just awesome to watch and is by far the most feared batsman on the planet! Your best bet of not being smacked around is to aim short, although it has to be inline with the body, else the upper cut comes into play. There's no other that I love watching at present more than Sehwag.

Which means if there's anyone who really trust a pitch trueness, it's Sehwag. Oh well, I guess they all have a flaw!

Yep , when the pitch has deteriorated he doesn't adjust his game and pays the penalty. But SW's right , he's terrific to watch and absolutely fearless!

I don't think it really has much to do with the deteriorated pitch - maybe it's a mental thing, knowing he has already done a lot for his country and first innings that he probably plays too casual instead of putting his head to it. Why I say this is because in the first Champions League on that poor Delhi pitch where scores ranged from 110-120, I saw Sehwag blaze a 46 in about 27 balls. while all the other batsmen struggled, he was still picking balls off a length and battering them away, was even playing with the bat lower at times for the low bounce and hitting them away.
I guess we'll never know but from that Delhi pitch, then is when I truly appreciated Sehwag's class. I don't think any other batsman has ever played on a poor pitch with such eased it had seem.

I think India can easily get to about 600 and the look for an innings win. McCullum, Ryder and Taylor are the BIG three for NZL and of course Dan!
Sachin may score a century in this innings itself. Surely one can expect another couple of centuries among Dhoni, Raina, VVS and Sachin.
Why no Tuffey in test matches, surely he is much better than a few in the squad. Martin will never do well in India, and how about Mills, why he doesn't play tests?

Was hoping for a better pitch but I guess with the NZ bowling attack it wouldn't have made a big difference. Sehwag was brilliant as usual although he really needs to work on his fitness. Last few times he's crossed 150, he's had a runner. Dravid was great considering the amount of pressure and scrutiny he was under. He might have started very slow and boring but he went to smash 83 of his last 111 balls so zuhair_abbasi you should watch the second half of his innings. Congrats to him on his 30th century!
Vettori was very good, as usual, but not good enough and I really feel for him as he doesn't really have many good backups. Also the NZ wicketkeeper needs to work on his skills. He was terrible! I couldn't see his face properly but I doubt it was McCullum.
Tendulkar looks like he's gonna get his 50th as well but I wouldn't advise India to bat more than 1.5-1.75 sessions. A result is needed but the NZ batting isn't too good either. But I've never seen most of them bat so I can't really comment on them.

Attritional cricket this morning from Tendulkar and Laxman against controlled , if unthreatening bowling from the visitors. Tendulkar on 40 and Laxman 33 - I can see both making hundreds against such a limited attack. 383-3 and a lot of work still to do for the fielding side.

I really will have to stop these predictions ! Tendulkar gifts his wicket without adding to his score and it's 384-4

And your famous kiss of death Sledge. Sachin departs.
Indian spinners are going to do fair bit of damage here.

You'd have to think so and against a side not riddled with top batsmen.

boy NZL right back in it! India 6 down all of a sudden and they still haven't gone past 400. Dhoni the key but now the tail is exposed, good stuff by the slow bowlers.
Jesse, Taylor and McCullum are high quality players Sledge, I wouldn't count NZL out of this at the moment.

I wouldn't think so Sam. NZL are not back in it no matter how quickly they finish it off. the pitch is dry and will turn. Cant see NZL threatening the Indians.

487 all out after some fireworks (apt - it's Guy Fawkes Day!) from Harbhajan (69).
A good comeback by NZ , but I agree with zuhair , the Indian spinners will cause havoc on this pitch.

There seem to be good turn now and also some bounce, will be difficult no doubt for NZL, Dan and Jeet get 7 wickets between them so Bhaj and Ojha would do moe damage. That innings from Bhajji was crucial and has given india extra runs to play with.

How can Sachin and VVS score so slow? Quite bizarre aye, good thing I didn't stay up last night. Anyhow, surely, India can't lose this from here? If Harbhajan doesn't bag any good hauls in this series, he might as well just admit that he no longer have off spinning powers. Might as well he turn into a batting all-rounder!

another ton for Jesse Ryder against India, at 331/5 this match seems to be heading towards a draw. India can still win it but that would mean bowling NZL out by Lunch tomorrow.
A healthy edge off Kane Williamson's bat taken by Dhoni was not given, this serves India right as they are the ones who do not want UDRS.

Yup.A draw seems likely especially with Vettori still to bat but I would say India still have the edge. The first session is going to be crucial

Harbhajan seems like he needs back Anil Kumble at the end for him to start taking back bag of wickets.
