I'm disappointed in NZ_Fast for not starting this thread haha
Anyhow, Aussie took the first T20 and NZ took the 2nd one in a super over yesterday.
We also saw a dazzling ton from Brendon McCullum and his hitting and improvisation was just sublime. Scoops over the keeper head for 6 - come on, you got to be kidding me haha blame Ian Smith, his commentary is still ringing excitedly in my head.

I checked the score for the 2nd T20 today. Took me while to figure out it had gone to the Super Over. Cricinfo doesn't do a good job of showing that.
McCullum finding some great form finally. Hopefully it wasn't a fluke innings with a lot of luck, I'm yet to watch the highlights. So, far it looks to be a good contest between the two for the series. |

I just want to say one thing ground size were horrible even the miss hits were going to 6s and 4s.

It was a breath-taking game! I didn't miss a ball even though my mom and dad forced me to study but I simply couldn't! It was a heck of a game and credit must go to Southee for Winning it for the Kiwis thouth McCullum was exceptional with the bat. In the end White almost did take Southee out in the last over but its one of the best T30 games I've ever seen!

Super innings. It's a ground McCullum loves though. He does have a history of super innings at the ground.
Yep, it is quite a small ground. It is larger than it looks though, the roofed stands that surround 3/4 of the field give the impression it is tiny, but it's largely 60-70m boundaries. It doesn't help that the pitch has become so batsman friendly. It used to be the best in the country, now its just made for batting. Onto the ODI series now, before I believe a 3 (?) test series. |

Another super game tonight. Australia fell just 10-20 runs short of what they needed to get batting first. NZ did well to restrict them though, getting a breakthrough every time they were threatening to get away.
Scotty Styris though, talk about taking your opportunities. Can't get into the team while Broom is given a long run so he can develop for the future. A freak injury to Vettori brings him into the team and he bowls some tight overs and brings home the chase under huge pressure. Taylor did so well too. First time he's captaining the team and he scores an aggresive 70 and notches up a win against the hated Aussies. |

Quite right Zuhair - I watched the Aussie innings last night, they started off in a flash but the kiwis came back well. Oram length was superb and Bond hardly ever gets a bad game - such a terrific bowler!
You reckon after the Ind-Pak rivalry in ODI's, the kiwi vs Aus is next in line for the hottest, such superb contests!

There's certainly plenty of spice when these two meet - Johnson and Styris have both been fined for their mid-pitch confrontation.

Taylor has improved so much with his consistency now. Becoming very dependable and one of my new favorites. Great win by the Kiwis. The Aussies just did not have the one long partnership needed.

NZL team is fast becoming a good one - eclipsing their good old days of late 90s and early 2000s. Taylor, Guptill, Ingram etc have added so much to their team. They will be a real force in the world cup.

They perform well only on select matches and not very consistently but they have a good World Cup track record so they might do well especially if the big hitters can bring out their big shots often. Last game was a good one. Vettori once again leads a solo fight. It seems everytime he comes back into the team, a lot of the work is done by him and when hes out the team comes together much better.

Thinking ahead to the tests i think Australia has to drop North, he is simply not making runs or getting wickets.
Put Steve Smith in at number 6, he's just come off a couple centuries and a 7 wicket haul. Does anyone know when Hilfenhaus will be ready again? |

The way i see it is that while hes still young, we play him at number 6 that way he can be the backup spinner to get him experience, and he can make runs there against a less threatening opposition then an India or South Africa

Australia just have so much depth that it's amazing. I don't think any sporting team in the world has ever had that much. They can field 3 very strong Test xi!!

Australia could sport an A side that would be in the top 5 in the world, I am sure. Whether that team would be completely youth is a different question, there are many 30/31 year olds who play exceptionally well but won't get test recognition at their age.
Steven Smith should get a game methinks. He's made 3 or 4 big scores in a row now, and just grabbed a 7-for. His batting looks good, I'd like to see him slot in and do a job at the back end of the batting with Haddin. His bowling is coming along too, he has some talent and can turn it a little more than White. I think he can improve. |
