What are some of the things to make a good pace bowler? I am a good pace bowler, as well as a good leg spinner. I think I am alot better at pace. I can swing the new ball, both ways, inswing, and outswing. I can swing the old ball, with a shiny side, and a rough side (reverse swing). I can also seam the ball around abit.

I also keep a good Line and Length at a very genuine fast pace.

Well, I sometimes lose my accuracy a little. If I bowl too many overs, but that's only if I'm really going for pace. If I bowl at my normal pace. It is fast, but I can bowl a lot faster. I usually tend to keep my line right.

I'm a pace bowler... I can bowl with reverse swing with an old ball but quite obviously it is not perfected yet!! ... I would have to say that a good weapon for a pacemen would be having a "cutter" in their arsenal to surprise batsmen and move the ball into a right handed batsman or away from the left hander... I bowl offcutters after 3 or 4 overs of pace, because rather than losing my pace I can preserve it and bowl an over or two of slower deliveries and/or offcutters... It's an idea for all pacemen! It's also ideal for pacemen who struggle to find the seam or have problems with swinging the ball.

I used my arsenal of pace variations today at our match, and I opened the bowling, and finished with 1-4 from 4 overs. I mostly got inswing, and some cut into the Right Hand Batsman. The wicket I took was a great bowling display. It was swinging into the off stump, seamed back in a bit, and hit the leg stump out of the ground. I also had an alternate out swinger, which I bowl at a faster pace. I will show you my variations.

- Normal Delivery (Seam upright)
- Slower ball (Split Finger)
- Slower Off Break
- Inswinger
- Outswinger
- Seam away
- Seam in
- Reverse Swing

My Reverse Swing delivery was the one that got my wicket.

I bowled this very tight line outside Off Stump, and let absolutely none go down leg side. I thought I bowled quite good.

If you opened the bowling and bowled four overs, then surely the ball would not have been rough and beat enough for you to utilize reverse swing, if you can reverse swing a ball after 8 overs then you should be called up to the national team my friend!

I could have swing the ball both ways, inswing , outswing, where I live here pitches don't really offer seam movement like in new zealand. I use to swing the ball in the air as well. We never polished our ball so I never used the reverese swing as yet. I had a very decent line and length. I never really use any short ball cause I never use to bowl at high speed. In a match i bowled pace and got figures 0f 6.3.24.3 , I bowled all 3 victims. I bowl my first 3 overs for 24 runs and 1 wicket. I was on a hat trickI bowled pace in another match and didn't get any wickets but I didn't conceed a boundary. I was like another glenn mcgrath, but I had to let it go cause I use to land badly on my knee. I bowled some off cutters in the past and a dangerous one that straigthen up like Nel own.

if u hold the ball  on the seem and then run ur index finger  accross putting spin on it and then the ball spins a bit  is that call cheating if a fast bowler does that

It was during the eight over mark. It was a very hot and humid day, with some cold wind blowing accross the ground. I got reverse swing for about 3 deliveries. They were smashing my opening bowling partner all over the place. That could have contributed to the roughening up of the ball. Couldn't it?

I think that's the cause, one side was very rough to an extent the dye was peeling off.

It could, if you were playing on a concrete car park or something. Maybe you did reverse swing it, but it sounds more like a bit of wind or conventional inswing to me.

Hmm, I'm not very sure, then. I faced the smooth side away from the right hand batsman, which I wanted to be an outswinger, and instead it moved like an inswinger, then pitched and seamed into leg stump.

Its not reverse swing. You're kidding yourself if you think you're capable of bowling reverse swing. It's an extremely difficult thing to achieve and you need all variables to be in your favour. Plus, you need to be bowling at top class pace (i.e 140km/hr +) to have a hope of making the ball genuinely swing Irish. Stick to conventional swing until you're a gun and are a possibility of playing top level cricket.

I think you are a little confused. That is the way you would hold the ball for a conventional inswinger. The ball swings towards the rough side with conventional swing. If it swings towards the shiny side, then we'd be dealing with reverse swing. Read my posts in the "swing bowling" thread for more info.

Well, then. It seems I was confused about the reverse swing. I can swing it both ways, and seam it a bit, though.

Hmm, now that I think of it. My inswinger may have reversed. I'm not quite sure. I faced a Shiny Side away from the batsman. Although, it missed the stumps, I am certain it reversed. I remember when I bowled that ball that took my wicket, the normal inswinger that seamed in a little. After I got him out, I did face the rough side closest to the right hander, and it swung away, and it did beat the bat, but they went for byes. lol.

I am absolutely certain I got reverse, during that 8-10 over mark.

average speed for a 16 yr old pacer depends on their action but it shud be around the 60mph mark.

Bowling in the nets last week I got a ball to start moving the wrong way after working one side with sweat and saliva for about an hour, and I don't bowl that quick. I think that side of the ball was just so much heavier by then it was making it move a bit.
I swing both ways - but only when I'm bowling!

What is the grip to use to bowl a catch-ball?  I used to know it when I was in high school and whenever I bowled it the batsman gave a catch and became out.

But then Bando hit me on the head with the bat due to which I forgot the grip for the catch-ball.  I also became horribly deformed.

But coming back to the subject, what is the grip for the catch ball?

What is the point of bowling bouncers?  Especially the ones on the body can be quite dangerous, no?

Does it help the bowler in any way?

A bouncer can unsetle the batsman, and if he flinches and turns his head away you can very often get a catch off gloves or the handle of the bat if they bottle a back defensive shot. If they try a hook or pull and don't get it right there is every chance of a catch. However, you need to have genuine pace or the bouncer will just end up as a long-hop and be blasted into oblivion.
