Topic: Pakistan in Ireland Posted: 19 May 2011 at 3:25pm |
Just a two match series but an important one for both the sides, IRE have a lot to prove to the world and the ICC and a good performance here will put severe pressure on the ICC to include the associate teams in the next WC. PAK on the other hand are back to their original ways, controversies, another new captain and several test players in ODI team. They would desperately want to win these two games before a fairly long break that awaits.

Haha. Yup, Pakistan has to take these two matches seriously. I just hope that the decision to change the caption does not create any negative impact on them

Well hopefully not Amal, and Afridi has withdrawn from the tour because of his father's ill health.
Talking of another similar series going on between PAK A and AFG, PAK A have been winning easily and two players who have been impressive are opener Sherjeel Khan and fast bowler Sadaf Hussain, haven't seen them play but would surely like to know if sherjeel is really good enough and if Sadaf is more capable than Junaid Khan and other youngsters around?

Apparently Afridi might retire, it will be interesting to see if that actually happens. Anyway, what is the purpose of appointing a 36 year old captain. Do Pakistan like changing captain every 6 months?

If the overs get reduced in this match then I'd put my money on Ireland to take victory. They have enough first class standard players to put up a fight. Johnston, Joyce, Rankin, Stirling, Porterfield and O'Brien make this side look particularly decent, certainly they are far and away the best non-test team at this point in time. I dare say they'd smash Bangladesh at home and probably do well away against them as well.

Naah!! Pakistan should've this in the bag without a sweat. Ireland's a good side, I do hope they get a lot of international games to play. I'll still put my two cents on Bangladesh if the two side were to play. They got more experience and talent for mine.

V4P is right, Ireland are a good side and have that ability to upset big teams but if you put them against bangladesh or even Zimbabwe they have struggled to win the series, last year Zimbabwe beat them 2-1 and Bangladesh too have a good record against them.
As for now Stirling is absolutely hammering the Pakistani bowers... Rain, please come!

Spot on V4P, Ireland if given sufficient chances to play big teams on consistent basis, they will surely find themselves a decent spot in ODI rankings within a year or two. I would not be surprised if they fare better then few teams who have Test status. Ireland has got nice set of players. They can handle pace well, and showed that they can apply themselves and play quality spin on sub-continent pitches too.Thats enough for me.

IRE bowled out for 96 and it is heartening to see young Junaid Khan get 4 wickets, it is so important for Pakistan to find a quality fast bowler other than Gul and Wahab and I think both Junaid and Sadaf have shown hope. Honestly speaking I didn't find Junaid to be as Impressive on the tour of West Indies but then those were very slow wickets, his performance here in Ireland makes me think that he can be good if conditions are good for fast bowling.

Ireland will be kicking themselves, this was an opportunity to show the world they deserve to be playing more international cricket and deserve to be playing at world cups. No other associate teams get to play against big sides. They missed a trick here, that's for sure.
In reality, half their players play quality FC cricket on the County scene and they are right next to England and it's not out of the way for teams to offer to play 1 or 2 ODIs against them. They are in an excellent position to improve their cricket, it's just a matter of taking ADVANTAGE of the chances and not collapsing. This too will also help them to retain players like Joyce (who is now back) and Morgan, who are international class.

I did not watch the match - can't comment much. I actually was unaware that Pakistan were playing Ireland on the 28th - I thought it was somewhere in June. I wouldn't be surprised if Pakistan play another drawn series. I am not the one to pick Pakistan as favorites on the basis of the performance a night before.

Zuhair is right, Pakistan are 86/3 after a blistering century by Stirling took Ireland to 238, can't mess it up against Ireland can they?

Good come back by Pakistan, they look far more comfortable now at 185/4, they should win it now unless Duckworth & Lewis mess it up for them!

Pakistan win!!! Good knock by Umer while Younus and Misbah have shown why experience is so very important in cricket. I have to say Younus was missed in the series against the West Indies esp in the first test which was lost by just 40 runs.
So their series win against NZL earlier this year was their first in 2 years and now they have three consecutive series wins, against New Zealand, West Indies and Ireland. Well done Pakistan!!!
Coming to the team, I'd certainly not want to see Taufeeq, Azhar and Salman in the ODI team, they need to be replaced by Shahzad, Asad and Possibly Sarfaraz who has shown good form in the series against Afghanistan. I think that will happen because this team went to Ireland only because the PCB didn't want to send a new bunch of players just for these two games, they simply sent the team which was playing test matches against WI to play this series.

Good come back by Pakistan and congratulations for winning 3 consecutive series in a row though these series wins were against NZ, WI and Ireland . Yuo Sam, this team looks full of test players and Azhar, Taufeeq and Salman should immediately be replaced

Like I said, Ireland have missed out on a good chance here... ... Can't see them playing test cricket for at least 5-10 years.
