in my mission to become a clever bowler i thought it might be a good idea to start a thread about different conditions that can occur in a game and who they favour.

for example if the pitch is green, will it favour pace or spin, and will it help the batsmen?

also id like to know abit about different effects of weather, if its overcast or sunny who does that favour.

thanks for your help

I guess this explains why PF has posted some idiotic messages !

In answer to those simple questions , I'll respond with one of my own - have you never read a newspaper cricketing article ?  The answers are there in practically every single one.

Green pitches are ideal for fast bowlers because the grass makes the ball come off the pitch with more pace and bounce. If the ball hits a patch of grass, I think it will make it seam around. Humidity plays a part with swing. The higher the humidity I think, the better it is for swing and with an overcast sky.

If you have a dusty and dry wicket then it's good for spin bowling too, a flat pitch just favours the batsmen.

Sticky wickets are good for slow and spin bowlers. If the pitch is a few days old it will be better to bat on seeing as all the moisture is gone.

But a few day old pitch is also good for spinners because of the cracks and rough patches.

I didn't think South African's believe that spin even exists.
