I hope its Sachin Tendulkar especially since I think this will be his last world cup. I'd like to see Bond and Patel do well too. If Irfan Pathan was in form, then he would have been my pick.
However, officially, I'd put my money on Kallis.

Lara's almost bound to have a scorcher I feel, last World Cup on home soil and all that, he can't fail. Can he...? I've liked the look of Ganguly recently, and with a point to prove I think he could be dangerous too, as could Sachin and KP - although both have reasons not to perform at the top of their game (form/injury), they are both likely to have one definitive match-changing innings even when not at their best. In the bowling stakes, I think Bond (if he doesn't collapse in a pile of broken bone and flesh) will shine as will Malinga, and even at the outside Liam Plunkett, although probably he's still a year or two from really breaking through as a world-class bowler.

Marlon Samuels, came to the party last evening, and it looks that he seriously means business this time around, so lets see how he plays throughout the tournament. Daisy and Spin might not agree, but they would love to see him as the man!

At this early stage i think Gibbs, Kallis and Ponting have to be up there but it is still too early to tell. Gibbs' six 6's i think will be hard to top unless someone scores a 200 which by the look of things is probable!

I think the likes of DHoni ,Boucher ,Nixon might end up as serious contenders with the top order struggling to get through .So my vote is for MS Dhoni or Boucher .

KP was in an awsome form yesterday, so if england goes on to super 8 and beyond, He could be the man responsible and probably no wild guesses for the man of the world cup!

Yup. But chances are low with the minnows gone. I think it will be Ponting but should be Dravid. He made the most runs in 1999 but wasn't recognised. Klusener was a deserving winner though.

I have noticed for the past one month that everybody thinks that Sachin's out of form. Maybe he is not at his 100 runs best but hes scoring 50 very often. Almost every alternate games, he comes up with atleast 35-60. If you think thats called out of form, then what do you think Dravid is... a loser. He has made only 2 or 3 hundreds in the last two in ODIs. Inzamam has made only 1 or 2 similarily. |

Now I think its going to me Chamara Silva. He has been brilliant so far. A fifty almost every game saving the team and he is in terrific form. If Sri Lanka win the Cup then it'll be because of his quick fifties which come when needed at the end of the game.

Well wiseguy I have to admit that he is performing so far in this world cup. It's a good thing but the man that I really want to see performing is Lara....I have not seen any centuries from him so far in this world cup and it's quite disappointing.

Yes Wisey, he looks like he means serious business now! This is the best I have ever seen him bat for all ma years. He is in the most form out of all the boys I think. I know Samuels was playing the fool all along as he wasn't playing his natural game. I know he was stroke player but he use to try and take his time and build an innings in which everyone know is not a West Indian style.

At this stage we'd have to say that the player of the cup race has been narrowed down to about 12 or so individuals. At this point the top runscorers are Hayden, Smith, Kallis, Ponting, Styris and de Villiers, the top wicket takers being McGrath, Murali, Hogg, Malinga, Langeveldt and Bond. Of these twelve chaps I'd have to say the likeliest are, in order: Hayden, Kallis, McGrath, Ponting, Smith, Murali. But that's my speculative suggestion at the halfway point of this competition.

|
|
JH Kallis is the only player in history to have 8000 runs, 200 wickets and 100 catches in BOTH forms of the game. Only Sobers (tests) and Jayasuriya (one dayers) have achieved half that feat.

I think it's got to go to Matthew Hayden based on current form but there's still a long way to go in the competition so it could all change.

Looking like Hayden or Jayasuria, both in fantastic form. None of the bowlers have really done anything special yet apart from Malinga.

I'd say it's a race to the finish by Matthew Hayden and Graeme Smith.

Ponting? You've got to be joking. Hayden has outshined him throughout the tournmanet, Smith has been in excellent form as well.
What about Kallis or Styrs? Both have been in excellent performed. I don't understand the fuss about Malinga? He bowled one brilliant spell and good on him. Otherwise he's erratic and damn expensive, even the Windies saw him off. He went for 6.80 an over today, and its not the first time!
