there's nothing wrong with him, he's hardly had a fair go yet - coming in at the end when you are required to go for it right from ball 1 is going to lead to a batsman having a few failures. With Hussey it just so happens that they have come all at once.

How can he do better? he has been batting in no win situations, couple of overs to go, quick runs needed. His form will be the least of pontings worries.

Well then consider this: Lasith Malinga is Sri Lanka's leading wicket-taker in this world cup, with 3, 3, 1, 4 and 2 wickets in his respective matches. When you consider that all the matches that Sri Lanka won so far have been due to the opposition being completely bowled out, you tend to see his contribution in a clearer light. Sri Lanka don't need economical bowlers, because they take 10 wickets in every match, except the SA match, where they took 9 wickets.

Malinga is potent and like Tait is never going to be economical in limited overs cricket.  I go along with Mojo here , he's surprised a lot of people and undone some fine batsmen - he's definitely one of the best bowlers on show at the moment.
Not quite up to the showing of Bond or McGrath , but still impressive.

Do you really think that Malinga has been less impressive than Bond? I don't want to start a debate over who's the better bowler, but I would like to hear your reasons for making that statement.
Malinga: 13 wickets in 5 matches.
Bond: 6 wickets in 3 matches.

The stats don't tell it all Mojo , Bond has been on the money throughout the tournament and has been very sharp and dangerous. His line and length have been impeccable and no-one has got after him.

Stats don't tell you how often a bowler goes past the edge or how batsmen have a go at the bowler from the other end after having a torrid time from someone else.

Malinga is having a terrific tournament and deserves praise , but in Bond , I see a more complete package.

Perhaps, Sledger... But I feel that Malinga was more influential to Sri Lanka's victories (and near-misses) than Bond was to NZ's. (Apart from the WIndies game)

He's played a full part in this tournament lad and performed admirably.  No doubt about his past history has restricted him for many years - let's just hope that that's behind him now and he comes through this WC unscathed.

Without Shoaib and Lee (even Harmison!) this world cup lacks exciting frontline bowlers , Bond is one of the few that actually gets the blood up.

I think the context here is specifically this world cup, where Bond isn't constantly getting injured.

People very easily forget Chaminda Vaas. He has bowled exceptionally in the tournament, and definietly bowled better than Pollock where comparisons are made with. Murali also has 11 wickets and have a better ER than McGrath and never even mentioned as a leading bowler in the tournament! This is stats for the current leading bowlers in CWC 2007.

Can you not accept that Bond is an excellent bowler Mojo? You always bring up his injuries. At the moment he is not injured! We are looking at this world cup primarily, hence the name of the thread.

Malinga has played two more matches. Bond didn't play against Kenya. Given his record after 5 games he would've taken 10 wickets in 5 games, Malinga 13.

That's three less however Bond has been very, very economical. He has created opportunities for other bowlers to take wickets. He has bowled impeccably. Accept it. Get over it. OKAY.
Good one Graham!

Those stats do give a good indication of performance at this WC and I have to agree Vaas is bowling exceptionally well.

Good one Graham!

I've got nothing against Shane Bond, and I never mentioned his injuries.

Your right and i'm sorry for doing so just before. However our recent debates have been great, e.g. Bond V Lee.

I wouldn't bother with any sympathic stuff on this forum either, its a place for cricket lovers mate.
Good one Graham!

Your Bond vs Lee debate wasn't with me. I'm not a fan of Brett Lee, and I'd far prefer Bond over him anyday.

Big%20smile Well, you'd better get some stronger coffee! Anyway, as for player of the tournament, I'm pretty sure it's gonna go to a batsman, and not a bowler.

Maybe Hayden fits your bill or Sanath plus his bowling
