Thanks for the pics JP, much appreciated.

I am yet to understand bat companies obsession with lime green. It isn't the most attractive colour in the world

Lime Green is a Great Colour!! I guess Gray Nicolls are just replacing the Longbow with this bat. Since Longbow is almost gone here in Aus.

Date Posted: 03 March 2006 at 8:13am
As far as I know it was never intended to replace the longbow, nor to become a mainstream bat. It will be a while before we see these on the shelves, if at all according to people I've talked to in cricket shops around the place. Unfortunate though, as i wouldn't mind ownign something with edges and a blade like that =). Additionally, I would disagree that longbow is almost gone here in Aus, I still bowl at plenty of them, and have owned one not to long ago.

Hey Guys,

I am new to this forum. Have been reading the posts for a couple of weeks. Find it very interesting and informative. Thinking of buying a new bat. Wondering about GN powerbow. looking for a light bat. any suggestions??

Posted By: Clobber
Date Posted: 09 March 2006 at 8:04pm
Hey there Crackton,

What are your preferences when it comes to a bat? If you like the bowed blades you could look at any number of Indian bats that would be just as good or better than the Powerbow, and cost less.

Posted By: Crackaton
Date Posted: 09 March 2006 at 8:18pm

Hey clobber,

I am looking at a light bat with thick edges with a bow. I know of a guy here who will sell GN bats for cost price ( around $180 US). He likes to promote the game here in the US and is an authorized GN stockist.

Do U have  any info on Woodworm?

Iam not too keen on Indian made bats.

Most Woodworm bats are made in India by SS Sunridges....

HUH. didnt know that. Somehow I am attracted to the new shape of that bat. I am pretty positive I wont be able to find a dealer here. As I understand they are hard to get even in the UK

You could always drop them an email and ask if they have a stockist in the USA

hi guys

i saw this pic on kingsgrove sports and i think this bat looks brilliant!!

i have to get one, ive heared its powerful, anyone know the weight range of it and what sort of batsman is best suited to this bat?

i live in england, do you think it will come out here? if not what would you say is the best aussie shop to order one from?

well a mate of mine in Aussie just got a GN Fusion Players, it is 2'9, but feels like 2'6 according to him.  It has a carbon handle...pings like a gun, and very very expensive!  Its shape reminds me off the standard Heritage range of Laver and Wood.

Posted By: stroke master
Date Posted: 03 August 2006 at 10:51am

it does look like a heritage, and it is really expensive. i converted the price from aussie dollars to brithish punds, and the price came to around £260.00, for the players model, and the 1000 came to £230.00.

looks like i wont be getting that then, but i really really want one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By: UKKiwi
Date Posted: 03 August 2006 at 10:56am
well i am sure you will be seeing them all over the ebay in no time :) I do think the only reason the GN fusion looks huge is because it is probably pressed less? compare to the usual off the shelf bats anyway.

Posted By: henjam
Date Posted: 03 August 2006 at 11:34am
Na i think its because its quite concave, so with the high spine it looks big, i wouldn't mind one though, its just the price tag!

Posted By: ozzie001
Date Posted: 03 August 2006 at 11:52am
Gn Fusion has a hollow carbon reinforced handle.  By taking weight out of the handle GN have been able to put this extra weight into the blade.  This gives it a huge profile with the extra wood.

Posted By: UKKiwi

forgive me if i sound ignorent, but when then centre of gravity is further from hands the bat will feel heavy/unbalance correct? surely you will not want a light handle? wouldnt it make the bat feel even heavier if the weight you have taken out of the handle is being placed onto the blade itself?

This is a bit of information i got from meulemans about the gn xxx2 custom made and the gn fusion.

This first bit is generally about the xxx2

The Custom Made has a lot larger profile than the 1000 the width of the bat is left as big as the cleft will allow and the willow is carefully chosen to be the lightest possible.

Then i asked about how the xxx2 compares to the new gn fusion

I prefer the XXX2 as the new handle in the Fusion still tends to jar abit as well as giving the bat a very tinny sound and feel. The lightness of the Fusion handle also makes the bat pick up very bottom heavy, on average they pick up 2oz heavier than they are.

The XXX2 are the bigger of the 2 bats and give you a lot softer feel when you hit the ball. The amount of grains very,
but most of them are between 7 and 11.

I knew that Aus $ 120-handle was a bloom'n gimmik!

Posted By: willhello
Date Posted: 18 August 2006 at 11:00am

I knew the GN Fusion carbon handle theory was illogical, there is no way that having a lighter handle would improve the pick up as all the weight would be at the bottom(unless you like your bat to pick up like a 1 Wood).

GN seem to be having a laugh with us - have you seen the OZ GN advert with the oversized fusion that must have three inch edges!!! Also if this handle is so good, why does Mr Hayden not have it on his bat?? I saw an image of a him using a fusion and you can quite clearly see that the top of the handle is made from wood/cane!!!

Posted By: UKKiwi
Date Posted: 18 August 2006 at 4:42pm
yeah it is just crazy.  Puma came up with the foam injected handle last year too and one of the biggest downfalls of Ballistic range is its poor pick up.  A bat with low middle and a light handle..i dont think it takes a rocket scientist to know it is a combo for disaster.  However, anyone swung a C6+ from Newbery? What are those spliceless bats like?

Posted By: stroke master
Date Posted: 18 August 2006 at 5:48pm
my mates got a mojlnir c6+ and thats an absoulute beauty. its pick is sooooo light and it weighs 2.10, its got massive amounts of wood behinde the sweetspot. i wouldnt mind one of those. i had a couple of shots with it and the handle didn't really feel to much different from any other except when i tried toeing the bat, to see if i got vibrations in the handle, it didn't vibrate that much.

Posted By: UKKiwi
Date Posted: 18 August 2006 at 6:31pm
oh real? I have always wonder what the benefit is for being 'spliceless', is it weight reduction or enhanced balancing..?

look at this gn exclusive bat, it is exclusive to the cricket warehouse shop.

to me, this bat looks pretty similar to the fusion and its cheaper.

Posted By: americancricket

i think the spyda looks ok seems like it could use some more bow..it would be hard for me to use a bat like that over here in the states as the outfields are too heavy..but it seems like a light pickup tho....i want to get the fusion but i have read some negative reviews on it im really interested in what the pickup is like

I don't see the negative info about the GN Fusion.

I personally just bought the Players Fusion, a whopping $630!!

Pick Up IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Trust me! This bat has amazing pickup compared to the size of it. It without a doubt is a bat that has the best pick up that I have ever held. Amazingly, the bat that I felt came second was the Puma Stealth 5000, which was closely followed by "The Don" from Slazenger.

As for the handle. I'm pretty sure its not a HOLLOW Carbon handle but just made entirely of Carbon. It seems to allow greater strength and control, but I'm not sure about that as I haven't used my bat yet.

But Trust me, the pick up is amazing, you won't find anything similar anywhere. It will be worth the money. I'll report after I use it in the nets.

I don't know how the criticism started about the handles etc, but
I will see how it goes, it will be bad if my $630 bat turns out to be useless, but I'm backing it, and if something does go wrong, I'm going to contact Gray Nicolls or GCCC and make sure I get another bat worth my money. There is no way I'm spending so much money for a bat with a useless handle.

Does Hayden actually use a normal Cane handle??

Here is an email that I sent to GCCC.

Hi ,
For the amount of wood and profile of the GN Fusion range their pick up is outstanding.  They do sound a little tinny or even hollow when struck with a ball or mallet but the 'ping' of them is sensational.  It is by far our best seller this year and all the feedback from other customers has been positive.  If you are unhappy with the pick up of the bat you may return it, provided it has not been used.

Hi,

I have seen and read on some sites that the pick up of the Fusion is terrible. Is it really? I also saw that someone said the sound of the bat was very tinny and didn't sound good.

If I was to purchase one, and it was not feeling good or didn't play well, would I have any options or would I have just wasted my $630??
Please advise on the options available to me after I do purchase one.

What areany of your thoughts on the new Fusion?

Thanks

Don't forget it's his job to sell bats. I am not saying they all will be bad, I just don't think they live up to the hipe or the price tag.

Well, I don't disagree with you there. However he was being honest. As for the pick up, I believe it is quite amazing, whether it is just my bat or all of them I don't care. For the amount of wood on that thing, It feels like a 2'6!

I'll post some pics and attach them to this thread.

for mr. lee...compared to the fusion does the powerbow have a lower middle than the fusion...im just curious cuz im torn between the two...which would u think is better for hitting over the top

Posted By: MrLee
Date Posted: 25 September 2006 at 7:34am
The Powerbow does have a lower middle than the Fusion. This would allow better driving capabilities.

The Powerbow is a sub continent styled bat. It's hard to say which ones better for hitting over the top, the Powerbow is made for it, but the Fusion is a huge bat aswell and I would think could do the same as the Powerbow.

Really depends on what type of player you are.

Hope that helps.

the edges do look quite big, and i know that they say the edges are 34mm, but i measured the edges on my bat and they came to around 25mm, so this edge thing they got going on isn't really that impressive, many bast have this big edges.

Posted By: stroke master
Date Posted: 25 September 2006 at 6:32pm
but still, looking at that, i really would like one, im still making my desicion between the powerbow, fusion or a fusion sports bat.

Posted By: stroke master
Date Posted: 25 September 2006 at 6:34pm

i guess fusion sports could make a better bat then that, because the middle is high on that bat, and many pictures i have seen of fusion sports bat the middles are high, however with the concave shaping, the middles are much bigger, compared to the gn fusion ive seen here.

we should ask bill what he thinks

If anyone wants one, I will gladly get some for you. Especially if you have  any special requirements. I asked for  10 straight grains on mine, and  a oval handle at the bottom, but they don't make the  Fusion with oval handles, however he managed to get me a partially oval handle, which is a bonus for me.

Michael osborne from GCCC sent me a GN fusion 1000, by far the best pick up, the best feel i have ever felt in a bat. I had a game yesterday, i scored 55 on a wet wicket, and first time in my life i felt in control of all my shots. The ball was flying off, almost took out this guys hand when i hit a cover drive..Its amazing, it feels huge in my hands, and everyone was amazed on how big it is, i agree with LEE, and everyone else who dont know jack **** about bats saying its bottom heavy becayse there is more wood and carbon handle, well the middle is high up, and the pick up is great, the best i have felt. I used to use Puma Ballistics, yes they were a bit bottom heavy but now i switched to GN fusions, i have about 3 now, and each one is amazing, same in all regards. I would recommend this to everyone.

Having checked out a few Fusions today I wouldn't say it was bottom heavy at all since the middle is fairly high up.

There are too many bat threads around again at the moment - it was to avoid this sort of thing that Sledger created the sticky for bat discussion.

Therefore most of the other bat threads are going to be closed tomorrow morning, so if you want to make a final point or move the discussion to the sticky, this would be the time to do so.
