Someone called quicky asking for tips on speed?

I suggest that you build up your chest muscles and do push ups do get stronger biceps. I did this for 2 weeks and I had a huge increase in speed (About 7 - 10 mph I think). And make sure your run up is smooth, that's where a lot of speed lurks too.. ;)

Well you might lose your line if you over do the pace.

Yes, gives you added bounce and if you release it from slightly higher then you'll go a bit quicker.

Use your back feet and arm all at the same time.
They should all move forward at the exact same time.

when you finish running and are about to release the ball...

bend back slightly, jump put your front foot down and then move your back back in normal position as you are releasing the ball.

Note the position of his back.

How do you measure your bowling speed anyways?

Posted By: quicky
Date Posted: 06 March 2006 at 4:45pm
against a speed gun, if you live in aus you probably have these facilities pretty much everywhere just get on ur cricket australia website and they will tell u where to get your speed measured, trust me you dont bowl as fast as you might think, i mean warne is just a spinner with a few feet in run up and he bowls 50mph and a bowl 50mph-60mph and i have to run up and put some effort into it, so i guess as u get older u can bowl quicker because of ur muscles.

nah jjks shoibs fine to bowl quicker you have to lift up your opostie arm to your bowling arm and hammer your elbow beside your body and this will increase pace as it is like a windmill affect

What happens if the bowler is such a slow bowler that the ball does not even reach the batsman?

Given some recent discussions about fast bowling on this forum there is a great joke to be made there, but it would cause a riot so I'll keep my trap shut :)

Two laws could apply.

Law 24 - No Ball.

6. Ball bouncing more than twice or rolling along the ground
The umpire at the bowler's end shall call and signal No ball if a ball which he considers to have been delivered, without having previously touched the bat or person of the striker,
either (i) bounces more than twice
or (ii) rolls along the ground
before it reaches the popping crease.

7. Ball coming to rest in front of striker's wicket
If a ball delivered by the bowler comes to rest in front of the line of the striker's wicket, without having touched the bat or person of the striker, the umpire shall call and signal No ball and immediately call and signal Dead ball.

I bowled such a ball to Bando (Bo for short), and when I went to pick it up, he met me half way down the pitch and delivered a thundering blow to the skull with bat.

I have been horribly disfugured since then.

so if the ball roles it is a no ball, how can that be if that guy rolled it along the floor wen newzealand needed 6 of the last ball and he just did a under arm roll??

The rules were changed after that delivery to prevent it happening again.

Despite my head injury I was able to bowl the deadliest donkey-drops known to man.  Then suddenly the rules changed and all my wicket taking donkey drops were declared no-balls.

Last time i went to cricket training sum guy said i had good pace but could bowl faster if i made my jump at the end of the run up smaller. I am reluctant to do this as it may just mess up my technique and i can often get some bounce from the high release of the ball. Any advice?

I've also been told this, and after having done this for the opening part of the season I can tell you it's done me no good at all, I'm bowling slower than i was and it's completely messed up my line and length
