Hi!

iv heard ALOT of mixed ideas about how bradbury bats are made. Firstly, are bradbury's all custom-made?? and secondly, are they crap bats in general?

Hi

I have heard that they make good bats, as for all hand made i do not know the answer to that,it looks like they may have copied our style to some degree, but thats ok with us.

They spend half the year in Aus and half here in the UK.

I think you should do somme research regarding Bradbury Bats and make an informed decision.

A lot of international players use their bats and cover it with sponsor stickers. Ricky Ponting, Steve Waugh to name a few.

They are all hand made and I can assure you if you get a chance to hold use or hit with one you will be most happy with it.

I ordered mine over the phone after to speaking to Paul. Very nice person and he asked me what I liked and what I wanted. I actually had a chance to wave one around but his final words were - trust me you will like what you get. Each of the bats are individually numbered and i you want a carbon copy - he makes you another one to the exacting specs.

My experience with them is that not only are they good bat makers, but as cricket lovers they are very enthusiastic about what they do and how they go about doing it.

I can tell you I am as happy as Ricky/Steve with this bat and the middle on it is unbelievable

Try one out and do some reading about bradbury bats and form your own opinion.

A polite question for Sidman, who is quote "You",

Thanks, Bill.

copied your style bill pweeeef considering they were julian millichamps apprentice and they got told a batsmen wants a bat that goes but doesnt hurt them at the end of the day. They have worked there own style out and have made a '' classical '' all along maybe similar to your shape but not as high middle. bradburies are in 3 different shapes to suit all batsmen and then you pick the weight but they can be customly made if you go through someone

ive owned them EXELLENT BATS

Posted By: groovydude
Date Posted: 13 March 2006 at 10:06am
but considering i live in australia, if i want thier top model (sterling), are they just gonna give me some crap mass-produced bat?? and how do you know that each bat is 'individually' hand crafted for you??

Posted By: SYMMO
Date Posted: 13 March 2006 at 10:17am
it isnt for you its for every1 the sterling is perfect shape i owned one then just wanted to experiment and they make the same bats all the time even for the test players they dont do nothing different except they get paid more to use better wood other wise they are awesome bats and i dont know what your going to get because i only ever get my bats directly from them and then i know i will get quality equipment

Posted By: groovydude
Date Posted: 13 March 2006 at 10:19am
so your saying that thier not "individually hand crafted for you'??

howz the pickup on them? did u get it from middlepeg? how much

Posted By: SYMMO
Date Posted: 13 March 2006 at 10:25am

there not individually hand crafted there a " classical" cricket bat shape much like fusions but if you contact them they can change weight and whatever else but they have a perfect shape, i dont know what you will get from middlepeg just read the testimonials if theres any i suppose but otherwise try get them to contact paul and sally and work something out

Hi Symmo,

I think you will see that i said, they may have copied, thats not the same as 'have'.

yer sorry mate i mis read it and then felt stupid when i re read it but yer they havent hey just must be a popular shape

you could but i doubt you would want to get the edges any thicker they already are extremely thick and if the sweetspot is any higher it would be at the top sticker

just about ne were of the middle of the face is good

 Symmo,

no probs,we did bring this shape out about 2 years ago and called it the parallel weighted bat which is the reverse of the GN perimeter weighted bat ,they bought that out in 74 and took a patent on it ,which is now exspired.

And to confirm Bradburys do make good bats,we think we do one thing that do not which, is that we test all our bats in our nets first and the customers can also use the bat before they part with well earned money.

I have not atually ever seen a bradbury in real life or picked one up, but i have a fusion, and are bradburies concave with highspines, because looking at the pictures they seem more solid and have thicked edges, or are they very similar bill?

I was replying to groovydude who asked teh question are they generally crap bats and the answer is NO!

They are excellent and in regards to teh handcrafted for the individual, if you want a lower sweetspot he can do that, if you want thick edges yes he can do that, if you want heavier lighter pick up he can do that too. If you like the standard shapes he can do that as well.

Batman100, I think you should decalre your interest here. I only realised you were fusion sports when I read some old posts.

I note your first comment that Bradbury copied your style. However Paul and Sally have been making bats a lot longer than your 5 years in the business as noted on your website.

Lets face it some shapes work well and others do not and the bradbury/fusion/laver & wood/millichamp & hall/screaming cat and who ever else wants to claim it works and its a proven fact. I think its a bit dangerous you claiming it as being yoor own!

We all know custom made bats are the goods but do not go burning off other bat makers to try to get a bigger slice of the action Fusion. That is just bad PR, why not help each other and grow the custom making industry not making claims that others are immitators. GROW UP!

yer i would say the fusion shapes are atually nothing like bradburys plus all the otehrs sidman mentioned l&w/m&h/screaming cat/ but the way they make their bats like the shapes seem to be very popular at all levels, the fusion  shape i had never seen before until i saw a fusion eg very very concave high spines, is concave a good thing?

I will take a few photos of my bat and email them to you if you like.

Mine is a Bradbury Sovereign, made in Nov 2003. Actually when I  placed the order, paul had a back log and was about to head back to the UK to chekc up on his daughters in boarding school but he said I cannot promise it but I will try to craft it within the week and he did which I am most grateful for.

He does a lot of work for state players as well and when I asked him about the sticker debate he was coy but he did say one thing and thats everyone pays the same price for the bats no matter who you are! Back then he did 3 shapes and he still does. It was a risk buying it over the phone but I had a friend at the club that bought one off the shelf and that bat felt magnificent to hit with as well as pick up.

I believe Bradbury UK are now sponsoring some county players by the looks of things. Their new website is up and going.

I am a fervent fan of their products as you can see!

Understand your point crick, and I realise that batman 100 goes on to correct his erroneous ways. my apologies to all.

At the end of the day I think one thing that is certain is that a custom made or handcrafted bat is far superior to a made by machine stickered up piece of marketing wood!

Crick,

Original question was about Bradbury Bats and my reply was about just that. Just recounting my experiences of buying one and chatting to the bat maker himself not fingerring through a glossy catalogue in awe of bat stickers and the players that supposedly use them.

 Hi Sidman,

i think it is inappropriate of you to rant on about my comments when you have not read them correctly, can i suggest that you re-read them and tell me where i have said the things that you have so wrongly stated.

What interest should i declare?

Where did i correct myself?

Where did i say that Bradburys "have" copied our shape ?

How is it dangerous for me, when i have not said the the things that you have wrongly stated ?

How i am i trying to get a bigger slice of market, when we are custom batmakers, dont you realise that hand made batmakers can only make so many bats per week,so common sense will tell you we are very limited as to how many bats we can turn out!

If you mean that i am running down other batmakers,by your burning off,i have only had praise for the hand crafted batmakers, and you could do me a favour, contact all the custom bat makers and ask them if they press they bats by hand i,e literally by hand with no electrical motor,we do.

As for the grow up bit, well i am 65 years old and i do not think i am child like yet.

I have taken your remarks to be offensive, you do not know very much about me,if you did you would not have made your un-warranted remarks.

Sidman you know who i am ,who are you?

Can i ask do you do any charity work ? do you give much to good causes ? do you give many bats and equipment to young cricketers of all races and greeds? if the answer is yes then you have my best wishes, because both myself and my son do!

We give more than we take out of this great cricket game, because we are trully cricket lovers,by the way what is your first class record ? i think my son may be one of the only cricket pro making hand made bats,

.As you may well have gathered by now i am rather upset by your inane remarks.I will ask you to consider is the forum the right place to argue about these matters when we should be enjoying harmless banter regarding all cricket matters and perhaps learning from other people.

I opologise to all you good forumers for my post,i will slide into the back ground now and keep quite.

Bill, and on behalf of James

PS please forgive any mistakes i may have made it is rather late.

Dear Fusion,

Good on you for supporting cricket. You may of note my earlier apology and let me apologise again to you Bill, James and all the Fusion people.

I ain't going to nick pick over each and every one of your postings here mate. Your 65 years have obviously yielded you a better bat maker than you are in command of the english language or a keyboard.

By the way, I love cricket and I like to be a happy customer and it just so happened to be I am one and happy to share the experience to the people that ask - getting back to the original post.

The way I read your original post was that you claimed the shape was yours, my interpretation, before we start hauling in the be-wigged barristers, it was the way I read it and interpretted it.

The words "may have" are a bit ambiguous. "Sorry Hilary it looks like I may have slept with Monica" "Looks like I may have snorted cocaine""Looks like I may have sent the troops to Iraq""It looks like we may have won the game"was this said at the innings break after AUS scored 434 against SA. get my drift???? I am being silly now aren't I?

I am not here to take the p#@s out of you or your company, in fact I knew about your company before I knew about this forum and had a thorough look at your product range and was quite impressed. Good on you.

Using forums as a form of marketing I think is great lets the customer talk to the maker etc however lets not have this forum turn into a commercialised advert centre. Next thing you know there will be pop ups advertising the latest $25,000 bat that is being endrosed by the Duchess of York, David Brent and some forgotten big brother celeb and is available in a gold leafed mahogany box from Harrods with the illegal carbon fibre back and will cure erection problems as well - now I am taking the P1$$

GO ahead Bill answer what you can but choose your words cause others interpret it differently sometimes.

There also seems to be a lot of rumour and uninformed sl*ggin of products in forums as well. hence the original post - mixed ideas about how they are made and are they crap? I was simply clarifying the matter.

However if this forum is the biggest concern of yours, I think you got other battles to fight.

How many other cricket products out there are named FUSION. GRAY Nic FUSION, Charlie French FUSION. I will not insult your 65 years of intelligence by offering a tip to protect your IP/trademarks.

I ain't here to sl*g off your product or blackmail you into sending me 10 of yours bats so I write a positive review or anything (however I will consider it if you send it!), just sharing my thoughts on a product i happen to have -a Bradbury Bat.

I hope you have plenty of happy customers like me that will literally "go into bat" for your product. Apologies if you thought I was sl*gging off your company as it was not my intention to do so.

Sid

Hi Sid,

you have still got some things wrong, but i am not going to responed to any more on this matter, because it will get too personal, and that will do no one any good, just one thing We sponsor David Brents brother Gary Brent of Zimbabwe!

dude...this topic has gone way  out the way. All i wanted to know is if bradbury was a good bat to have. I see that fusion have concave spines, is this good? coz GN, and bradbury dont use concave spines.

Date Posted: 14 March 2006 at 10:22am
Without wishing to take this further off-topic I just wanted to back up something Bill said earlier. And I will also point out I am neither one of their sponsored players not some starry eyed fanboy.

I was interested in involving the Fusion brand in one of my business interests and subsequently have spoken to Bill and James on a number of occasions - you simply could not come across 2 nicer or more helpful people and what always comes shining through over and above ANYTHING ELSE is their love of, and commitment to the game of cricket as a whole.

Indeed I could tell you of numerous instances where they have helped me out/offered to help where there was precisely NOTHING in it for them beyond helping someone get along in the big wide world of cricket. That is a generosity of spirit that is all too rare in this day and age, and one which should be applauded.

Posted By: henjam

i havent used either properly, but i think i would prefer a bradbury because it is a much more solid shape, i don't like concave as much as it does not give a solid feel, i reckon the more solid shapes are atually more powerful, even though they do not look as big as concave bats with high spines.

you think wrong bill! also this is about bradbury bats, not every one wil agree with my OpinionS, and if every one did, it would be quite boring, thats why i put ' i think' in my post.

Anyway back to the topic, i found out tonight that grant flower has or has had his bats made by bradbury, and as one of the players at my club knows him, he is getting one off him as grant did not want it, and the weight of it, 2lb 4oz!!!! no joke, he must like his light bats grant!

so..is everyone saying that  bradbury is better than  fusion??? coz i just dont know who to pick.

Posted By: _JDR_
Date Posted: 15 March 2006 at 11:23am

Groovydude - I don't think it really matters at the end of the day unless you are playing cricket as a career.

Personally all these custom bats posts have turned me off them and I know my cricket isn't good enough to make a difference. Before I worry too much about minute details about a bat, i think my technique and shot selection requires my attention.

Posted By: groovydude
Date Posted: 15 March 2006 at 11:26am
JDR, i get what you mean.  But im just saying i want my money to go to something that will serve me well. Also, is the laver heritage grade 2 or grade 1??

Posted By: _JDR_
Date Posted: 15 March 2006 at 11:34am

In that case.

Have a think about what type of player you are and select according to that instead of worrying about brand.

I read a good article the other day giving guidelines about weight, pickup, length etc depending on position in batting order and some other stuff. Trying to find a link for you.

If you score most of your runs driving then select a bat with mid to low sweetspot. If you are opening the batting select one with mid to high that you can move quickly.

Not sure what else. I am no expert. I am in the same dilemma about buying a bat.

Posted By: groovydude
Date Posted: 15 March 2006 at 11:40am
yeh thanks for that. Umm, i just  have mixed opinions about both brands thats all and i cant pick between which one. So to make everything clear; the bradbury is a stock shape and cant be changed.

Posted By: _JDR_
Date Posted: 15 March 2006 at 11:43am

If you call both companies they can make something for you. Though I am sure both have stock product that they sell with no customisation.

If I had to choose, between those two, I would go for Bradbury.

Posted By: groovydude

in your opinion what makes bradbury so better than fusion?

Posted By: _JDR_
Date Posted: 15 March 2006 at 12:04pm

Never used either.

All the fusion "supporters" on this forum annoy me. No proof they have had a Test cricketer use one of their bats.

Bradbury - If it is good enough for GOD (S. Waugh) and Punter, then I think it is good enough for you.

Posted By: crick
Date Posted: 15 March 2006 at 1:26pm
i dont think bill could say which players have used his bats over the years, if anyone wants to go and read the cricketsupplies.com forum they have been warned by the big manufacturers that legal action may be taken against anyone who said that a player uses bats other than their sponsoring companies, im sure though if you contact him directly, e.g. email or ring he can tell you,

Posted By: _JDR_
Date Posted: 15 March 2006 at 1:39pm

I don't believe he has had any test cricketer use his bat.

Just like people ascert that Test cricketers use custom bats and re-sticker them.

My assertion is that no Test cricketer has used a Fusion bat. It usually gets out if they do, just as it did with Bradbury. Until I see proof, I will not give credence to any mumblings by supporters of the custom manufacturers.

Posted By: _JDR_
Date Posted: 15 March 2006 at 1:41pm

Just read that forum. that is a fair response by the manufacturers.

I think it might happen here as I did tell Kooka in my email which forum had these rumours.

to jdr, he has told me about players that have used their bats, and given the name, and more or less the time that some of them used the bats, but im sure im not allowed to say anything either, and he asked me not to say it as i think he wants fusion to grow becuase people hear and see its quality, rather than knowing that so and so used their bats!
