Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting an MRF bat. Does anyone know where they are made in ? India, of course - i mean does anyone know who makes them. I heard it was BAS or BDM or a small bat company. The bat that I, thinking of getting is the MRF Wizard. Pls advise. Thanks Cheers |

I've got an MRF Genius, the one that Tendulkar uses and all I can say it is brilliant, but BAS makes his bats and they put the MRF Stickers on it because MRF is a tyre company in Mumbai, I think.

| mrf bats are terrible. if you want a bat similar and at a better price get a BAS or a BDM. MRF just rip people off for poor quality products. |

So, basically, like many other manufacturers, you can't be 100% sure. So everyone's best bet is a custom made bat. ------------- Don't Believe the Hype |

yeah, some big companies like gm may produce some amazing bats, and some not amazing bats! thats why i would either hand pick the bat myself, i.e. go to a big shop such as owzat-cricket or, get it custom made! ------------- boo ha ha! |

I would tend to stick with the main Indian brands.If that's the direction you want to go in. BDM bats are great as are SS (Sunridges),SG and BAS.To be honest though,the prices for the top range ones are that high that you might as well get a custom made bat from Fusion Hawk cricket or Charlie French.We should try and support our craftsmen our else we'll all have a choice of Indian/Pakistani bats or exhorbitantly priced branded bats and nothing in between. Mark. |

Q and L bats are more than likely not made by Quaife and Lilley,unless someone knows otherwise.There are loads of small bat manufacturers making excellent quality bats, e.g Bullfrog bats,Roman Jacques,Choice Willow,V Sports,Cornish Cricket bats,Nixon Cricket bats,Wright Cricket bats. That should keep the curious amongst you going for a day or two!! Mark. |

To answer the original question, Sachin's MRF is made by BAS - by a gentleman by the name of Mehnga Ram (info from an ebay listing for BAS equipment) - but whether they make all MRF, not sure - I will try to find out. |

Because I bought it from India from the factory. Try middlepeg.com their BAS's are made by Mehgna Ram, thats why there about 3 times more expensive than the normal Bas's. I've also got another BAS not made by him and the difference is quite clear, the middle and pickup are immense on the Mehgna Ram BAS |

MRF are ordinary. They have endorsed 3 of the greatest batsmen of all time (Waugh, Lara and Tendulkar). This does not make them a great bat just because their parent company MRF (Madras Rubber Factory) has ALOT of money behind them to pay these high profile players to use their gear. Also, many of the big name players using Gray Nicolls and Kookaburra are not infact using this brand or model. Many pod shavers (bat makers) are paid big money to custom make bats for these players and keep it very quiet. I know for a fact that Trescothic and Vaughn dont use GM bats.. Best advice is to forget about the labels and stickers and go and pick the bat up for yourself!!Some places allow you to have a hit with the bat so this is a great chance to find a bat for you.

well i always thought MRF bats were lighter and easier to control, cos tendulkar, lara and waugh arent big men! i think its just the brand name, cos like an kashmir willow MRF bat would go for around 60 aussie bucks... ------------- "If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing!!!" |

I know the guy who has made the bats in the past for him and at the time he worked for Julian Millichamp. Trescothic uses a REALLY heavy bat which needs a really talented bat maker to add this weight but also leaving it balanced. So what you buy in the shops as GM Hero or whatever its called is not in fact Trescothics bat.

He has his own bat making company out of New Zealand. "Laver and Wood". James Laver - hes a master at what he does.
That is why the best of the best choose to use him.

I know he worked on Tendlukars bat when India toured New Zealand. He wont tell anyone about who he currently makes them for. He is signed to a contract i'de say. But yeh instead of getting an MRF why not get a Laver and Wood bat they're great and you know they are as close to professional quality as you can expect.
