I have 2 on mine - not particularly through any choice, it just came like that but I am happy with the handle and grip so they can stay

i have one and a half, i.e. half a grip on the bottom, dont know hy, but i tried a while ago and liked the feel!

i also cut the end of the handle off, again no reason, but simply liked it when i tried it!

2 haven't tried 3 but i might try it. i like the handle to feel chunky, it also reduces the vibrations felt by the hands.

I used to use three a few years ago with a very light bat to reduce vibration - what would happen was that after a long innings my forearms would ache as more grips, if you dont have huge hands, can cause you to use more of your forearm/wrist muscles.

I then switched to just 1 grip, and finally settled on two. I think putting too many grips on can increase the weight of the bat without improving pickup and make the bat feel "dead".

The new style of ribbed grips can put 2oz onto the weight of the bat.  I realised this after i weighed mine (with 2 grips, one being a ribbed grip).

Why not try and OVAL handle?

I use one grip, used to have two but now reverted to just the one.

Is it true that having two grips can improve the pickup of a cricket bat?

I have also heard that having extra grips can help to improve the pick up of the bat yes so maybe it is a true statement.

As the second grip will add extra weight to the handle area.Yes the pickup of the bat will be altered.

Two grips feel really great and add to my comfort level.

i have two grips. i find it makes the bat feel lighter due to the higher centre of gravity an extra grip gives.

Ooh my first post

I have a gray nicolls powerspot that has 3 grips on it. Well it did have until it broke last week. It used to have 1 on but felt so much better with 3.

Now in the market for new bat after the death of my powerspot. It was bought in 1984 by my dad and he's scored about 5,000 runs with it until he passed it to me. I had it for 2 seasons and bust it!!!

What do you expect from a bat enduring for two more seasons even after scoring as many as 5000 runs. Nothing wrong with it mate. Keep it up.

I would of much rather not broke it as it was a class bat. Doubt I will get another one that felt so good in my hands. At least it went out with a bang - a crashing coverdrive to the boundary for 4!!!

im sure their are many quality batmakers who will be able to make a copy of it with regards to the balance, shape and pick up of it!

Is that to make a short handle into a super short handle?? Me dad did that with one of his bats and I always thought it would have a bad effect on the bat.

Ive always had two grips, reduces the vibration felt, but it causes more effort from the forearms.

The OVAL handle tottaly ruins my game of playing straight, i dont reccomend having it.

it shouldnt really have a bad effect, its just that my hands never go hihg enough to go over the 'knob' of the handle, so cutting it off means it wont ever rub against my wrist or anything, i got the idea after watching ricky ponting on the cricket show, as he does that  so i tried it on an old broken bat and it was great, !

and yes you could call it a super short handle, but i dont know what the uniform measurements are!

Just the one for me - i either have a GN matrix or a normal herringbone. Nice grips

If I were to put a second grip onto my bat, would it balance it a little more? Because, when I get into my stance I can feel the lower part of the bat dragging down, I got no problems with that but I'm wondering if adding a second grip would balance it out abit more. Is this true?

i dont think there is much use talking about if the bat is balanced better etc, i think you should simply try it with 1 grip, 2 grips, another half grip etc and see which you like the feel of the best!

Thimk theres about an inch difference from SH to SSH!! Makes all the difference for me as the end of the handle rubs my wrist!!

hey i got a custome made bat by a company named monty.....it came with a single grip, after playing in the nets a few hours i decided to put on the secund grip and it does feel alot better, i found the pick up had no immidate affect. The stroke play was alot better.

I only have the one grip on may bat, but I wish I had 2. My old bat had 2 and I found it much better. Unfortunately I don't know how to put on grips.

go to a local cricket shop and they will fit one for you or just buy a grip applicator.

i have used 3 and 2 before and i think they just as good as each other but i ont like 1 grip

one i think everyone should try, which is more for feel than anything, if you use 2 or more grips, the top grip is a herringbone grip, and the second from top is a studded grip, such as the bas vampire studded grips, gives really good grip

try personnalising your grips.

2grips cut in half on the top of the handle.
the bottom of the grip should be where your right hand middle finger rests so your index and sum hold the handle where there is no grip.

or

an ordinnary grip cut in half and a thicker one (spiral one for example) cut in half.
Allways put the thicker half on the bottom of the handle and the thinner half at the top of the handle.

Do try first with old(ish) grips.

most shops offer to put the new grip straight over the old one because its easier for them!

Although some people do prefer a thicker handle.
