The ones that was talked about are Vass 8/16, McGrath 7/15, Bichel 7/20 and Murali 7/30.

But the two I think greatest is Austrailia's Gary Gimour's 6/14 against England at WC and India's Anil Kumble's 6/12 against West Indies at Hero Cup.

What do you think???

Harmison and Lewis vs Sri Lanka and RSA respecitvely

Ganguly's 5/16 was a really amazing one. Unexpected by a bowler like him. I forgot against which team it was though. Nehra's 6/23 against Engand in the World Cup 2003 was a good one too. I tink Kapil Dev also got something like 9 for 40 odd runs, but I'm not sure if its ODI or Tests. I don't even know if its true.

I never thought Ganguly could take 5 wickets.

I knew that he was pretty good bowler.

He never did that. It was against England. 5/45 in 10 overs and 5/31 against some team. I think against England. Even that was in 10 overs.

Come on Dravid Fan don't be biaased,I mean Ganguly & Nehra's efforts where terrific but they don't come close to Bichel's 7/20 or Gar Gimour's 6/14.But it's your opinion after all.

Vaas' 8/19 ,Nehra's 6/24 and kumble's 6/12 are the best ones I have seen .I also likes Mick Lewis' 10-0-113-0 ,that has got to stand out alongwith Murali's 0/99 .

By the way what's the second best figues by a spinner against IND in ODI's (best is Murali 7/30)?

McGrath's and Vaas figures can hardly be called "great", yes they took 7 & 8 wickets respectively, but take a look at the opposition as well!!

Vaas' 8 was against Zimbabwe, and McGrath's 7 was against Namibia, which hardly makes the figures worth while.

For me, Andy Bichel's 7/20 (against England) is the best ever ODI bowling performance i have seen. He came in at a time when Tresco & Knight were carting McGrath & Lee all over the park, and in an instant changed the course of the game.

He bowled perfect line & length, forcing the batsmen into that area where they are unsure whether to go back or fowards, and if they should leave or play at the ball, which then caused loose shots later on.

A truly great performance by the biggest hearted player i have ever seen.

You might have dreamed about it. Once I dreamed about this match where Harbhajan made a century in the 2007 World Cup and then I suddenly woke up. It took me a minute to realise that the World Cup was a half a year away.

I got the biggest surprise of my life. The second best figures by a spinner against India as by Vivian Richards!!! 6/41

So Murali's record looks very good also, considering a spinner has never taken 7 wickets in a match before and only 4 instances taking 6 or more.

(Murali 7/30 against IND, Kumble 6/12 against WI, Jayasuriya 6/29 against ENG and Richards 6/41 against IND) All other 37 instances it was seamers

Sachin Tendulkar's best bowling performance is 5/32. I accidently found this.

I knew that years ago and both times he got 5 wickets were both in the Kochi stadium. The one last year versus Pakistan was a very good bowling performance by him, but Sehwag got the Man of the Match award even though Sachin deserved it.

Did you notice that Sanath Jayasuriya 3 times got five wickets or more? Did any spinner do better than this?

6/29 - Against England in 1993
5/17 - Against Pak in Lahore 2004/5
5/58 - Against WI in Port of Spain in 1997

Murali is the only spinner to take more five fors (5) than Jaysuriya in ODIs?

How's that for an all rounder?

Manchester United is a football team not a cricket team. Even I can take 8/11 against football teams.

Phil Neville could have been a pro at cricket if he had taken it up. Played for Lanashire under 13's and was their highest run scorer. Saqlain Mushtaq is the best evr ODI spinner by a long shot, he averages 21. Amazing! But he best ODI bowling performance was Waqar's 7/36

Aqib Javed got a hatrick on  docile sharjah batting paradise he finshed with 7 wickts, he had Ravi Shastri, Tendulkar and azharuddin all LBW!

here is an article about it...

Aqib Javed 7-37 Pakistan v India, Sharjah, 1991-92 (202.25)

Officially at least, Aqib Javed was only 19 years old when he took to the field in this final at Sharjah. But in a white-hot clash with Pakistan's old rivals India, the boy came of age. He took 7 for 37 - at the time the best one-day bowling figures - to fell India in their pursuit of 262 for 8, including a hat-trick of lbws in his third over. And this wasn't just any old hat-trick: Aqib nailed Ravi Shastri, Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar, who between them share over 750 one-day caps and over 23,000 runs. This on a day when Imran, Waqar and Wasim managed 0 for 73 between them.

Both would have been great to watch, but it was against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. I could even say that McGrath's 7/15 against Namibia in the WC was amazing, but he could not have done that against India or Sri Lanka so easily.
