e.g.

"one more player required in test sim 89"

or

"great victory well done england"

Good idea RAL !

AK , it's place to post a short message totally unrelated to the previous one. Like stop press on a news channel. For instance you can report a player injury here without creating an entire thread.

Give it a go fellas , it just might stop people posting dross in the proper threads!

I have to disagree with you there Liam Plunkett can bowl speeds of upto 90 mp/h and suits the number 8 spot quite comfortabely unless Mahmood can do well with the ball at the Oval then I may change my mind.

I disagree with you there. Its like throwing Dravid out when hes 35 and is one year form retiring. Hayden's a good player should be in the team till next year and then retire.

Some questions I always answers to,

  1. Why do cricket players wear caps sometimes when playing cricket??
  2. How many shots are there in cricket?(e.g Pull shot)
  3. Who invented cricket?

-------------

Posted By: ANIL KUMBLE
Date Posted: 15 August 2006 at 7:07am

The english are believed to have invented Cricket although the french might disgree while the bats used today where invented in 1853.

By the late 1600's the game was played by the gentry & the peasants by 1740 matches in London attracted crowds of more then 10,000.

South Africa withdraw from today's rescheduled match against Sri Lanka. After a Monday night team meeting the players voted to return home. Discussions are still ongoing , but the fate of the tour should be known before long.

Claire Taylor became the 1st Englishwoman to score a century at Lords after hitting 156* against India in the 1st one dayer yesterday. England won easily by 100 runs.

Can't say i'm impressed by your first decision as head selector Andrew Hilditch!!! Matty Hayden should never have been given back his place in the ODI squad.

   3) D.Boon
   4) M.Waugh
   5) S.Waugh
   6) Another old git
   7) ditto
   8) ditto!
   9) D.Lille (ancient git)
10) M.Hughes (BIG ancient git!)
11) F.Spofforth (don't even go there!! )

The BBC have reported that the ICC have turned down the PCB's request that Darrell Hair not be allowed to officiate in further international matches in which they are playing.

I think that decision correct , the governing body mustn't be dictated to by any country concerning it's Elite Umpires.

It's the 1st time for ages that the ICC have shown some teeth!

Having said that though , it might not be prudent to send Hair to Pakistan for a test series anytime soon.

Remember people's if you havent voted for the CW awards get voting now as theres just over a week left.

As for Matty Hayden being selected for the ODI series is interesting,it would be intreging to see who opens whether its:

Katich/Hayden

Katich/Cosgrove

Katich/Jaques

Hayden/Cosgrove

Hayden/Jaques

Cosgrove/Jaques

The opener who performs best this series and ICC trophy and...VB series (but a different sponsor now) could cement a opening slot in the world cup with Mr.Gilly.Though they could have rotations with the openers in the world cup?

I wouldn't rule out Watson, Jaques or Tait playing, that being said, they have all made their test debuts, but are still very inexperienced at test level.

Mark Cosgrove could be a bolter for a middle order spot if it continues to fail. That being said, michael clarke is an improved batsmen to the 1 he was last ashes and it wouldn't suprise me if he made a few significant contributions. He's been touted as the future of australian cricket, and what better series to show it!!!!

When it was Allan Border night they had a bunch of awards including rising cricket stars, some of the people who won that award where Ponting,S.Waugh & ......others.They had the allan border medal which Ponting,S.Waugh,Gilly has won there stars cant argue with that also Clarke won that making him a star dont be frightened of his form.Noticed when those players won the allan border medal they lost form didn't make alot of runs all averagin under 30 except Clarke wo average above 30....im kidding I made that up just that statistic part was a lie now does that make 100% clear sense or not?

It's not dissimilar to what the Springboks did before the 2003 Rugby World Cup. There the boys were kept in prisonlike conditions and subjected to horrendous humiliation , not unlike what the Aussies are undertaking right now!

Buchanan has some decidely strange ideas and this has to be right up there with his best!

I should point out that the Boks got battered by England , who went on to win the tournament against the host country (now who was that???)..

....deja vu ????

Only because of Mr.Jonny Wilkinson who top scored in the tournament with all those conversions, penalties, tries and drop goals (not to mention the winning kick with just under 50 secs remaining).

Maybe be Deja Vu or could be Deja Vu when Australia host the next world cup cricket England may win?

Ok well since this is a thread where you can post anything cricket related I just thought that I would mention that Clyde Walcott died. One of the greats for West Indies cricket has passed on. His contribution will always be remembered. So now another one of  "The Three W's for West Indies cricket" has departed. Only Weekes remains.

I now realised there was a thread about this on International News. I apologise.

Whether you were being frivolous or not , it made me laugh .

Don't worry daisy 77 , this is what this thread is for too. I was also going to mention it here but you allready did it .

Anyways , Walcott , another great of windies cricket. the 3 W's as many know them as contributed well to the game. He played 44 matches and had an excellent average of 56.68. He made 3798 runs and had 15 centuries with his best score being 220. An excellent batsman... there's no doubt about it as pitches those days were harder to play on.

I just wish West Indies can get another great batter like him .

Shane Warne suggests at a Post ashes retirement if he has another stellar series as he would love to go out on a high note....

Also, Gilly expects that more senior Aust. players will be rested in the future from smaller tournaments such as he has done with Aust. tour in malaysia. Isn't this a warning to the ICC that if players are having to miss tournaments that they are playing waaaaaay to much cricket??

I've just found out Muralitharan has never played more then a 3 match test series which is amazing he took a record 22 wickets in 2 tests against the proteas a month ago.

How come Sri Lanka dont get to play 4-5 test match series like I all the other test nations apart from Zimbabwe & Bangladesh?

I can't believe what I saw on T.v.

In Jamaica there was a school quiz competition that was shown on T.V. They put up a cricketer picture and ask who it was and none of the students got the answer. You will not guess who they didn't know..... Shane Warne.

Anyhow , in the TCL WI u-19 competition. Guyana and Barbados are battling for the Challenge cup (the 2 top teams battle for it). Barbados all out for 213 and Guyana was 59/2 on the end of day one at the Bourda Oval ( Guyana international stadium ).

I guess it has something to do with money. I think which ever side gives the ICC more money plays the most matches in A series. I think I've heard that story sometime ago when a cricket match was playing but still I am not sure or it may be due to the fact Sri lanka unlike SA , ENG , WI , PAK , IND , AUS aren't all that competitive in test cricket.

I think the same goes for NZ to. I don't think they have played any 4 or 5 match series as far as I've been watching cricket.

Maybe one of the older chaps on the forum knows something about it.

At home their crowds for test matches are poor - they still prefer one day cricket. Because of that it's not financially advantageous to play 5 tests so they play a hundred one dayers instead!

England play 5 tests (even 6 back in the 80's) against Australia because the demand is massive - it's still the biggest test series around the world. They also play 5 against SA and used to against WI , that's gone down to 3 or 4 now because of the Windies demise.

England have yet to play 5 test series against any of India , Pakistan or NZ , the first two still mad keen to keep the one day quota high.

Time plays it's part too. England played 3 tests against SL earlier this year and then 4 tests against Pakistan. They started in early May (the earliest that a test has EVER started in England) , they'd have had to start in the snow if they wanted another test!
