Subject: Sami breaks the record for fastest ball !

i don kno if this is true. but i was watching a video and it was showing the ball that sami delivered at 101.4 mph. and some people say that its true that he did really deliver it at that pace. on the other hand some people say that the machine read it wrong.
anybody got any idea of what i'm talking about?
anybody kno if this is true?
this ball was delivered in the pakistan india series in march of 2005 i'm not sure if it was the test series or the ODI series.

well, yea, i know. i looked in the guiness world record book 2006 (not 2005) and it says the fastest ball was by shoaib.

Ya I have also seen that clip - Nod oubt it was a furiously fast delivery and It seemed faster then the one Shoiab bowled in World Cup 2003 - but it isnt in the records and it didnt make any story so may be there really was some problem with the speedgun. Any how Sami is also pretty fast with the fastest ball of 95.something mph - Ithink 4th highest among the current bowlers
------------- Wasim Akram - I dont think anyone of his class would be born again - He set new levels that can never be acheived again - he'll remain a legend

I have seen the video and that delivery was quite a slow delivery, it didn't seem like to me that it was delivered at 101.4 mph. And as I already mentioned, I looked in the 2006 (not 2005) Guiness World Record Book and it states that Shoaib Akhtars 100.23 (I think, I'm not sure what the exact number is) was the fastest ball.

I was at the game at Newlands when Shoaib went over 100 mph. It was a quick ball , but what everyone forgets is that it was smashed for 4 by Nick Knight - it travelled a LOT faster after he got involved !!

actually, I watched the highlights and I saw that the batsman hardly stopped it and it ran to the fielder at mid-off (I think... I'm going to watch the video again, but I'm quite sure that it wasn't smashed for 4.

reliability of this video.

I don't think Sami bowls faster then Lee. I read some stuff about Lee and it says that he is equal with Shoaib Akhtars pace and if he is then obviously he is a faster bowler than Sami.

Yea, that's what I was saying. He is the second fastest bowler after Shoaib. I read that Lee is equal with Shoaib and has broken the 100mph mark as well. I think that was just made up because Shoaib is the only one who has broken the 100mph mark.

That's not too of topic, as long as we're still talking about speeds of deliveries. I think Lee's fastest was 161.8 kph or 160.8 kph but I'm sure that Shoaib has delivered the fastest delivery ever.

Which year and which month was it bowled in? If it was bowled before September 2005, than it didn't happen. Sami delivered a ball at 101.4 mph (162.24kph) earlier in March 2005, I think. No one believes that was actually bowled at 101.4 mph, and it doesn't say that in the world record book (2006) either. So it probably wasn't bowled at 101.4 mph. If Lee bowled a delivery that was faster than Shoaibs fastest delivery, than it would be in the 2006 guiness world record book, and it isn't, which means it wasn't bowled at that pace.

I doubt that is true, but if it is then Shoaib is the third fastest bowler, not 1 or 2.
-------------
|
Posted By: saadadvanced7
Date Posted: 22 December 2005 at 3:05am
If Sami had bowled a delivery at 101.4 mph or Lee had delivered one at 161.8 kph, Sami's would be in the 2005 or 2006 guiness world record book and Lee's would be in the 2001-2003 guiness world record books. But neither of those deliveries are in the world record books, and it says Shoaib delivered the fastest delivery, and that is enough proof.

-------------
|
Posted By: saadadvanced7

Well, the world record books don't look at whether it was delivered in a world cup match or in a normal International match. If Lee had delivered the delivery it would be in the world record books, but it isn't.

Sami is nothing but an idiot, no matter whether or not he has bolwed the fastest ball. Reason being he is the only one in Pakistani pace attack, who has not improved over the years and has just strived for speed. He has been unable to develope his skills unlike many other young speedsters (Not much swing, yorkers, pace adjustments, reverse swing etc.). The one who does not improve is meant to be out of the competition especially when ur competition is brilliant like Asif.

To me the fastest ball I have seen on TV from the naked eyes was the one in 99 world cup when Shoaib bowled our Fleming with a Yorker that looked quicker than the old footage of quicks bowling towards the TV camera. After viewing that Sami clip, it did look damn fast. It looked about .4 of a mile quicker than Shoaibs by the naked eye. Maybe someone can get a stop watch out and time how long it takes from the release to the pitch. Sami's did seem lightning fast though, could barely see it.. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4985508181387280461&q=fastest+ball - Fastest Ball

What I feel is that Mohammed Akram in his debut against SL might have bowled 100mph+ as he hit Aravinda de Silva few times. No bowler in history has done it other than Mohammed Akram and Andrew Flintoff (of course Aravinda was quite old then). Not even Malcom Marshall, Patrik Patterson, Brett Lee or Akthar himself because Aravinda had a liking to very fast bowling. Recall his assaults on Wasim Akram, Waqar, Brett Lee, Ntini, Donald, Walsh and Amrose.
The second instance was Mohammed Zahid,in 1994 I think, at Perth, Bowling to Lara in Carlon and United Series final where the ball was flying at off while Lara's backlift was in half way. (Eventually he hit Lara on gloves off viciously fast and bouncy lifter. Pak made 117 odd and Wi was all out below 100)
I think these two may be the fatest bowling performances in recent times.

What a relevant thread, Sami might have broken quite a few things while he was growing up, and on the way may have broken the fastest balls,s record. But so far in this season he has broken hearts of all his fans by his pathetic, aimless bowling. Infact for once I would love to hear what his greatest supporter Imran khan has to say about his latest performance in england!

Exactly Wisey! Sami has never been the most brilliant in Pakistani pace attack. Now I don't want to go harsh on him, but he is an isolated sort of bowler, having no interaction with the things happening around.

Brett Lee's quickest delivery is 99.9 mph I think. And that bowled Marvan Attapattu (I think) Or so it said on a show I was watching on tele. Can't remember what it's called though.

Since this thread is already of topic,
I would like ask a question:
If baseball pitchers released the ball after running like bowlers do in cricket, would it go more than 99.9 mph?
Some pitchers can throw 95-98 mph.
