Any ideas how we can reconfigure the ladder system?
I.e, something better than the fielder, bowler, ultra poster, idea.
I want something other than the 'club player' - 'world class player' idea you see everywhere else - maybe something to do with fielding positions - start off at short leg end with the slips.
Or have everyone as some sort of bowler - declaration bowler, part-time bowler all the way through to main strike bowler/new ball bowler.
Any other ideas?

This sounds like a good idea.
How about batting positions
Tailender, Special batstman, Middle order, Openng batsman

I've gone with the batsman idea. Basically, the more posts, the higher up the order you move. So, you start at 12th man, and work your way up to opening batsman.
Get to 10,000 posts and you're a world-class all-round batsman.
I'm trying to think of something clever for the mods/admins, ambidextorous or omnipresent batsmen or something?

It doesn't seem to be working properly - the highest anyone is at the moment is a lower-order batsman!

Are you spreading out the gaps between each level as well?

Good idea JP but 10,000 posts is too much, it would take me 10 years to reach that
It should be like this:
0 posts= 12th Man Less than 100= Tailender More than 100= Lower order batsman 1000+= Middle Order batsman 3000+= Openng Batsman 5000+= Legendary Cricketer

How about "Bradman" for the mods?

How come some people have only 10 posts but are wicket-keeper batsman. What are all the batting positions. 12th man, Lower order batsman, Wicket-keeper batsman, Number 7 batsman, number 6 batsman, higher middle order batsman, Specailist number 11 batsman are there any others?

It's not working, and I'm not sure why.
|
Posted By: -JP-

It is working, but the way the forum works, everyone is defaulted into the starter group until they post, so if they don't post for a while but have lots of posts, it won't register that until they do post.
Or unless I go round and check them all and change them manually.
It'd give me something to do on a slow news day!!!

Maybe:
a)Part-timer
b)Wide bowler... and ends at yorker or banger.[IMG]smileys/smiley36.gif" align="middle" />
Doesn't soung too good to me.
-JP- how would the highest be a lower-order batsman. AK would almost be an opener by now.
I think the current one is good enough too. I'll post later when I get some better ideas.
EDIT: I never knew that the Batting order was already there. YAY! I'm a Higher Middle Order Batsman (a bit too long and the other one is still better). How often do have I batted so high in the order.

For those of you wondering about the ladder system, here's a spoiler:
0-50 posts: 12th Man 50-100: Tail-end Batsman 100-250: Lower-Order Batsman 250-500: Wicket-keeper Batsman 500-1000: Number 7 Batsman 1000-2000: Number 6 Batsman 2000-3000: Lower Middle-Order Batsman 3000-5000: Higher Middle Order Batsman 5000-7500: Number 3 batsman 7500-10000: Opening Batsman 10000+: World Class All-Round Batsman
|
Posted By: wiseguy
Date Posted: 05 December 2006 at 11:44am
Well this no 7 and number 6 batsmen is a bit of monotony, secondly this system tells us that the opening batsmen is the best well thats usually not the case! I believe use all three forms, batting, bowling , fielding, and eventually get a few legends names into the fold, can have more slabs, and may be we have admin group also nammed into the system, I am working on that too!
------------- so far so good!

How about this one
0-50 posts: Twelth man 50-100: New cap 100-250: Third man 250-500: Extra cover 500-1000: Ist slip 1000-2000: wicket keeper 2000-3000: Oppening batsman
3000-5000: Middle Order Batsman 5000-7500: Number 3 batsman 7500-10000: Opening bowler 10000+: Spearhead
10000-15000: All rounder
15000-20000 : skipper
20000- 50000: legend
50,000 or more: Bradman

Isn't 50,000 little more? Nobody is above 10,000, AK would have been there if he comes to the forum.
My suggestion: drop some of the names from middle and add the ones that are last on the list.

As an alternative you could have names of players allocated for each stage - starting off with the worst player in Test history, whoever he may be, getting better and better until you hit 50k posts and you then are Don Bradman.
On the flip side my one concern with having high post counts necessary for some levels is that it will encourage the post boosters ever more.
|
Posted By: -JP-

I think that could get a bit messy - what if someone, for example, takes exception to being labelled 'Allan Border' instead of 'Sachin Tendulkar' or something?
And yup, the post-boosting would be horrific.

Pity I've been away JP !! Can't we take some of the names thrown at us over the years?
A western theme such as "Sheriff" of "Lawman" would be pertinent.
But is it ruthless enough? Personally I'd prefer something with a little more venom ....
"Dictator" or "Despot" has a
nice ring to it . "Caesar" would get the message across to
the more argumentative members....
Best of all though must be "The Terminator!"
....something very sinister in that title mate!!

I don't see that as a bad thing as I think it helps them interact more naturally without the fear of thinking "best not say that to a mod".
If they need help from a mod or admin it isn't to hard to figure out how to get it, even for a noob.

I think that looks very much Ok to me, but why the captain before opener , middle order, bowler and all rounder, just switch captain a little higher. Otherwise this reminds me of times in pakistan cricket where a few players only played as captain as they could not find a place as a bowler or batsman!

Go into their profile, then take the edit option - that will bring up a list of choices including moderator functions. Click that one then you can manually adjust the post count. To zero if you are feeling mean.

That lessening of post counts sounds an excellent idea - it'd certainly make post-boosters think twice before spamming through posting total drivel. I also really respect people (eg Spin Wizard) who have been on this forum a long time yet don't have an enormous post count - his posts are always contributing something, and that's what this forum should be promoting.

I know there is already a ladder system in place, but I've just come up with an idea of a ladder system if you wanted to change it in the future, the one I've done is with teams.
Here it is:
Teams Ladder System
0-25 posts = Marylebone Cricket Club
25-50 posts = Sussex
50-75 posts = New South Wales
75-100 posts = Kenya
100-150 posts = Zimbabwe
150-250 posts = Bangladesh
250-500 posts = West Indies
500-1000 posts = New Zealand
1000-2000 posts = India
2000-3000 posts = Pakistan
3000-5000 posts = England
5000-7500 posts = South Africa
7500 + posts = Australia
What do you think?
