Fishcake gave me the idea in another thread. He said "this thread is turning in to a cricket diary" and I thought that would make a great thread. Instead of clooging up the highest scores and wickets thread lets just talk about our net sessions, our matches and our goals. Ill get us started.

Played well in the nets last week. My bowling was accurate and aggressive batsman found it hard to slog me and I took a peach of a wicket bowling a round the wicket googly. My batting was a little rusty but I've just bought a new bat so I am not worried that I dodn't play great with it first time. i think by May I will be used to it.

Keep posting lads.

yay can i be the first one(other than 70DS) to acctually make a diary post

well here goes

24th january 2006 (yesterday)

me and a few mates when down the local nets, which are currently so wet that pond life seems to be forming LOL

anyway it wasnt quite as wet as usual and it did seem to be turning a tad

i got my mate with a googly third ball and then couldn't seem to bowl a decent googly after that
my leggies seemed good though
tried a few zooters which worked better than i thort they would, i dont know if its the way your ment to bowl em but, o well

the highlight of the net tho was when my mate smacked a cover drive, which bounced off a metal poll that keeps the net up, and then hit my leg

overall was a good net, and i cant wait untill my indoor nets for my club

o yeh and please can we not turn this net into a big bragging session, because i think its a great idea and it would be a shame to ruin it

And as for how my season is going, well I'll be keeping my 'Return To The Crease' blog up to date for you all.

Well I have had one lot of nets so far, My bowling was wayward and did some damage to my back so first nets in and i'm working on a new action. My batting was erm, interesting. Some good shots in with some ... not so good shots.  So plenty to work on there for me.

I played today and was defeated outright. We batted our first innings last week and were all out for 41 lol i made 5. We bowled them out for 167 i got 1/25 off 6 overs. And today bowled out for 93. I came in at 9 and made 9* in about 12 overs. Chances of saving outright were looking good until a bad call be me ended a solid partnership. Our no 11 then last 1 ball lol.

had another net today, i bowled really well, especially at the start, when i got my m8 (whos pretty good) out bowled 3 times in 4 balls, unfortunatly the net session was stopped for a while when posh people on private land (right next to nets) desided to start shooting birds with riffles, we could here the pellets landing on the pitch covers, next to the nets. was quite funny but scary at the time

School nets next Thursday where I am going to try and stake a claim to get in to the firsts where if Fishcake trains hard, I will meet him this summer representing each of our schools in a grudge match. The sledging will be fierce and the batting will be ferocius. He will bowl a bad ball and I will heave him for 6. Cant wait Fishy!! LOL You had better be in the firsts next season. also 70DS it is possible to improve loasds in 6 months, i didn't take a wicket of the season, mainly because i wasnt ver good, then in the seconds half of the season i took 15

like it says in shane warnes auto-biograpy ( which is called "my autobiography" by the way 70DS) you have to be naturally gifted to bowl leg spin, its not something you can learn to be good at, if you are naturally good at it then its quite easy to pick up and get very good at.

thats just my opinion anyway

Well, yeah, there's probably the natural ability to turn the ball but you still need to learn to be accurate.

yeh, i guess so, but it dosnt take ages to get accurate

It takes people different amounts of time but, I'd agree it doesnt take that long to become that accurate.

Hmm this is wierd because most of you are talking about cricket in England, well i am a schoolboy in australia and play in one of the most competitive competitions in the country. I'm in the 15a's and the only reason not in firsts is because of a back injury prevents me from bowling atm, uummmm we had a pre competition on the holidays... I got 2, 20, 30, 68 which was alright and opened the bowling for first two matches but only could bowl 3 overs as returning from injury and got 0/6 off three first match, and 2/9 off second so  was pleased with that.

After 2 practice sessions, pretty pleased with my self.
Managed to get back my outswing and offcutters at a reasonable pace as well as rediscovering my action for the Legbreaks. Also experimented with OBs but hasn't worked out that well :)
As far as batting's concerned, gradually getting back to form. Another 3 or 4 sessions should do the trick :)

Started indoor net practice yesterday. My bowling was diabolical, leg side wides, full tosses, had no control over my swing. My bowling always takes a couple of nets to get in tune.

Batting was satisfactory, but the spinners gave me some problems. The ball was keeping ridiculously low to the point that back foot play became non-existant. I always find that a problem because i naturally go back or forward on my judgement of length but when a ball pitches half way down and doesn't bounce i end up getting trapped on my back foot. Still seeing as its the first time i've batted in about 6 months, i see it as a positive start as i got behind the ball and was hitting the majority of balls in the middle of the bat.

Posted By: spin wizard

Well, I should be back in action by today or this monday barring rain etc which I hope stays away. It will be my first on a full length pitch since the end of august. A pretty long time indeed!

It's a brand new pitch too. I helped roll it this morning and it was pretty damp because of over night rain but it's typical caribbean weather at the moment. It's not a flat pitch - it has a bit of ups and downs and slopes on it so there should be some lateral movement although there are no grass on it. It should be fine for batting too and I am hoping to get back into form with the bat too. I am always reminiscing about my ton last year. Wink

It doesn't look all that favourable to spin at the moment as it should be hard when it gets the heavy roller on it. Oh yeah, now the toppy comes into action.

this is a really good thread some good posting in it.

My school net session was cancelled on Thursday Angry x 100. Its definitely on next Thursday though, and then I will hopefully stake my claim for the first XI unless I bowl like I did a month ago. My batting is as solid as ever and I've noticed that with my new bat, my drives have slowly started to feel nicer and nicer. Tomorrow, I'm going to get pads, helmet, elbow pad and bag and then bring on the cricket season (in 3 months time Cry)

Posted By: spin wizard

Surprise, surprise! I went to practice yesterday! I trained on the grass and not the pitch as it isn't finished yet. I bowled for an hour odd and I have to say, I was impressed by how well I bowled for a comeback from 5 months of not bowling on a full length area. I thought I was gonna bowl pure crap but not so. I didn't get my line and turn at first but as the time went on, I found back my turn and the line and length a bit. I Bowled a lot of long hops though.

None of variations came good. Only one googly came on target - all the rest were long hops. Probably 2 top spinners came on target - all the rest was down the leg side.  No sliders went on target. All went down the leg side but they went straight on though. I tried 2 flippers - the first is probably the biggest long hop I have bowled in my life and the other was a yorker. The good news for it is that it was right in line to the stumps.

My leggies were good though. I got them to turn and got the over spinners to dip. I kept on changing my flight and pace a bit. I had a bit of trouble with the side spinners early on. The release was a bit messed up but I fixed it and started to land the balls in line with the stumps and out side leg and got them to turn. I could see the seam clearly and it wasn't scrambled at all.

Session one for the new year was a lot better than I expected. I hope the year is better than I expected too. Wink

My second session wasnt as bad as the first, I got through it without doing any damage to myself and after a few bad balls I was getting it on target almost all the time. I wasn't bowling particularly quickly but I was getting the ball in the right place and was cutting it about a bit, bowled a left hander twice and got an edge off a right hander so thats a good sign for a second ever net session.

As for my batting.. well I had a shocking session, first ball bowled me, most my shots went up in the air, some bloke I bowled twice was bowling some rather nasty bouncers which wasnt so much fun without a helmet on but I hit a wonderful shot from a ball that would have left a hole in my chest, unfortunatly I knew nothing about it till I had hit and and I havent worked out what it was yet, a sort of cut shot but there was no brain involved, if there had I wouldnt have tried that shot =p

All in all a pretty good session and as its not the greatest team in the world and apparantly they often only have 9-10 players turn up I should be a regular in the team and get some matches come april.

I had a 15 over practice match yesterday and I sucked! I dropped a catch in the first over and dropped another later on! My bowling was very bad. I bowl about 3 overs for 30 odd runs. I got one wicket - stumped. Well, it was just my 3rd session after 5 months out so........

Yesterday i played a match for the first time in months but i don't bat because i was playing for my former school team and I think it was wise to send the guys would will be playing on the school team this year with the order ahead of me.
I did some fantastic fielding all match at silly mid off/on, i was sharping than dwayne smith for sure. Towards the end we played with bad light and rain. THe rain was too heavy so play had too be call off with one over remaining and the other team needing 9 runs to win.
I am disappointed to end up without a bat but my fielding is still at high class rating.

I had cricket training today bowled ok, got a couple of people out. Batted pretty well considering my skill with the bat

Had a go at training yesterday and I was more pleased than the day before. I only bowled a few full tosses and not many short ones. I got the guys to try and take me over the top and they failed miserably. My variations still haven't come to grip as yet - Only the top spinner came well! - neither the full amount of turn I use to get. Anyway, it's just the beginning of the season for me so.......

bowled Ok today, I got tired towards the end and couldn't grip the ball because the balls had been kept in a fridge. LOL

I got a guy out with an absolute cracker. I bowled really close to the stumps and it started out on leg and drifted a foot outside leg. The guy (who is in the 1st XI) advanced down the pitch and was beaten by the spin and it hit off stump. I would have got about 20 catches and 4 or 5 stumpings.

My batting was really solid and some of my cover drives were godly. I held my sposition for 30 seconds for one shot just to rub it in the bowlers face LOL (what??? I dont get to do that very often! LOL)
