Just remember, every-one will find a different make, and style and
weight of bat suits them the best. I started off with a fairly light
bat, but as I grew older, became stronger, and started hitting
boundaries, I changed to a heavier, more powerful bat, that
complemented my game, and power. Then, when I started playing against
faster bowlers, I changed to a slightly lighter bat again, one with an
easier pick up, and more manageable feel to it.
When it comes to bats, it is all relative.

Kookaburra by far, is the best brand for bats. The concept of Graphite Reinforcement has revolutionised bat performance. I myself own a Kookaburra Bat called The Beast that has this Graphite Reinforcement. It makes hitting boundaries easier than it was before.

Interesting James , your comments seem to confirm that the graphite does play a part in the bat's performance and is not just aesthetically pleasing.
The investigation into Ponting's Beast hasn't completely gone away and could yet be outlawed at the highest level.
You have to feel for the poor ole bowlers nowadays fellas , bats that send the ball into orbit , covered wickets and boundaries almost on the square!!

Rebourne, go out and look at as many bats as you can. If you are a
strong lad, get a heavy bat. Pick up as many bats as you possibly can,
see how they feel, imagine how they play. Get a bat that best suits
you, your frame, your style of play, and your preferences.
Some bats have thick handles, other bats have skinny long handles. Have a look, and then decide for yourself!

Your friends say you should buy the puma classic 3000, if I am correct
that is gilchrists bat. Just because it's gilchrist's doesn't mean you should
buy it. As for the kookaburra wild beast that may be a 'cool' bat, but I
believe if you really want a decent bat, get a kookaburra kahuna icon, or
V900/1200/800 pro.

Also. Hero Honda, MRF and Brittania aren't even cricket companies. Hero Honda is a mototbike company, MRF the Madras Rubber Factory, and Brittania something else.

Often you get excellent value and quality with lesser known brand names, such as Britannia, Hunts, MB and CA. They can compete with the top brands whilst costing a fraction of the price of the popular brands. Personally I like english bats, such as Gunn and Moore and Gray-Nicolls. I currently own a Gray-Nicolls Matrix which i have found to be only marginally better than my friends britannia which he bought for less than half the price of mine. In keeping with the topic I think Gray-Nicolls are the best bat manufacturer, but just like bats are subjective, the make is just as subjective. Also to be noted is that some bats by certain manufacturers are junk while a different bat from the same maker may be far better. It depends on what the bat maker is willing to put their name to.

Well u will find a lot of good brands, but whatever u buy, make sure that it is a balanced one and suits to the way you like to play. If you are a delicate batsman with perfect timing you need not heaviest of the bats, but if you are a pintch hitter and good athelete, a heavy weight would do the purpose. It always depends. Balance is the key thing.
And Saad, MB Malik bat is manufactured in Pakistan. Its a very good quality bat and is also exported, i guess.

If you love to play square cuts, late cuts, mid off, cover in addition to onside shorts, buy a middle weight. But is you are a typical onside player who wanna throw everyting out of the ground just go and ask for a heavy weight. And if you have any doubts, go and ask Viv Richard.

i have to say fusion cricket bats are bril, but so are Bellingham and Smith.
woodworm are not always what you think they are, very few bats are made by themselves (thats all ill say)!
the main problem with bats such as kooka, gm, gn, newbery and some others is that they are machine pressed, i.e. not pressed individualy, and as Bill from Fusion says, if you do the correct pressing for each individual cleft, you can make a good bat from average wood, but bad pressing can ruin a bat from great wood!

Can someone please tell me about Newbery especially regards to pressing. I was told on two occasions I think that Graham Thorpe for example uses (at the time) Newbery with Kooka stickers. Newbery themselves say that several players use their bats.
Thanks

i know that newbery use a machine to press the bats, i.e. not the hand pressing that you get from most small companies, e.g. fusion, hawk etc
they use a machine press (i think) becuase they have to make alot more bats than they used to,
im sure that brian lara used there bats once upon a time, but many years ago

There is no such thing as the best of anything!!!You can't say that x is better than y.Well you can but it is only your opinion. It would make much more sense if the topic was called "the most popular bat".If you are looking for out and out performance, sure you can get a good Grays,GM,Hunts,Kooka, but in my experience it's a lottery.By buying a less well known brand you are more likely to get a good bat,as they absolutely have to live or die by their product.I was in a shop yesterday buying a cricket bag.Whilst I was there I had a quick look at the bats, and the bats that caught my eye were the Salix bats. They were all beautifully made, balanced, and just smacked of high quality. That being said I myself have gone for a Fusion Superbest,as I can pick my willow from the same pile as the test players can ,who have their bats made by them. There is no distinction. As far as I know this is unique in the industry as other companies have private reserve stocks for the pros!!

well said marky i agree its a lottery with the big names.
my fusion experience has started i spoke to james yesterday on the phone and am looking forward to a test quality bat. James was so helpful. Whereas I can imagine going directly to one of the major manufacturers and asking for test quality willow and getting a weird look like "who the hell are you pathetic excuse of a human being - you DARE to ask for test match willow!"
I just hope that Fusion keep things the way they are!

You really can't say which bat is best because different players like different variables like weight, size etc. Obviously there are the things like qualities of wood that you should look out for.
------------- I didn't know Salix made fishing rods!!!!!!!

At the end of the day most of the wood that makes these bats (in the UK anyway) comes from the same place. It's all marketing people. Choose your own bat not becuase this test player uses it. Pick one that FEELS right in your hands - they are the best bats. If you choose it on looks and brand alone you could be making a costly mistake if the bat is not right for you.
I personally have used Gray Nicolls for the last 15 years and have never had a bad bat. I've had 3 during that time. Dynadrive as a junior and now as a senior used a powerspot pro perf and have now got a longbow 5 *. I've been very happy with GN and will probably continue to use them but I must say I could be swayed by a custome made one.

But Super Fred's 2"9 bat could be bigger than anyone's 2"9 bat hehe. As per discussed, different willow and treatments of willow etc etc. He is a special player after all :). If you pick a cheap 30 quid 2"9 it would probably be like a toothpick.

I'd say it's just a gimmick. When the company launched the story was that one of the guys went to use an old bat but found it riddled with woodworm, so cut out those sections of the bat to prevent it spreading, and the rest is history.

It just doesnt make any sense when they claim that it would enhance the balance of the bat. You want the centre of gravity (or mass) to be close to your hand. By taking shoulders off you are going to make the bat feel heavier.

I recently received my generic "Hero Honda" bat direct from India and it looks and feels excellent. It is well made with the current fashion for a sweeping back and slightly bowed face. It required knocking in as the "pre knocked in treatment" involves little more than a few cursory bashes but overall it plays very nicely indeed. Not bad for thirty quid.

yeah my mate had a L & V. He got a few runs with it mbut it didn't last too long. When he used it he said it raced off the middle, but sometimes he found the sweet spot hard to find. I personally got myself a fusion at the start of the season. An astounding cricket bat in its own right, however ahat has really impressed me is the quality of service from the company. Unforunately I had to dig out a couple of quick yorkers and got some moisture in the toe which caused a bit of a problem, but all it took was a phone call to James and a £5 postage and I got it back brand spanking new in two days! sent it down again recently when I was worried about some harmless driving cracks and got it back again, same service, free of charge, 2 days. If Fusion can afford to provide this level of service to their obviously well valued customers, it must be unlikely that they get many dissatisfied customers or damaged bats.

avoid this sort of thing that Sledger created the sticky for bat
discussion.
Therefore most of the other bat threads are going to be closed tomorrow
morning, so if you want to make a final point or move the discussion to
the sticky, this would be the time to do so.
